The experience was fantastic. The lodge is very comfortable and the views are fantastic. You are immersed into nature right away. The food service is great and the main cook, Diana, was warm and very welcoming. You do have to set up the guided bird watching tours ahead of time since there are few local guides and are 2-3 hours... More

Dear Pilar, We are sorry about some of your experiences whilst at the lodge, we were all saddened and discouraged by some of your comments and here is response. 1. Regarding the transport, we understand what you're saying that's why we gave you the transporter's details for you to organize directly with them, which is the cheapest way of doing... More

You do not have to be a super intense birdwatcher to love this place! The birds are incredible, yes, and the bird guide, Roger, is excellent. But the gardens, the views, the comfortable almost luxurious cabins and the food would appeal to anyone! The lodge is managed very well and they are very responsive to questions and desires. The people... More

Absolutely stunning lodge perched high in the mountains about 3 hours from Santa Marta. They make it easy to book everything you need online - the room, transfers & morning birding at the top of the mountain. We made our own way to Minca and used their transfers from Minca to the lodge to save money. We were in a... More

Colombia is a beautiful country and from El Dorado the vistas are magnificent. The lodging is new, clean, comfortable and attractive. The ride up the curvy mountain roads to reach the Lodge is breathtaking/hairy, and worth it. We had a driver. A bird guide is on the property. Check as to availability. The lovely and interesting couple who manage the... More

Friends and I just spent 5 wonderful nights at this reserve. The rooms are basic but lovely with small balconies on which to sit and view the sea and the mountains. The food is nothing short of gourmet and served delightfully. The staff is incredible - particularly Roger - naturalist and manager fantastic; Mattie the chef and her staff; Juan... More

We stayed for 3 nights in El Dorado. It surpassed our expectations. The nature, the birds, the hotel facilities, food, views, etc. Fantastic. One morning we left in full darkness to walk up to the ridge from where you can see the sunrise on the snowpeaks of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. A long hike through a Bromelia field.... More

The conservation group Pro Aves do a fabulous job here. They are conserving the important habitat, providing top quality guest services, working with and encouraging local communities, and providing services for further research on the region. The rooms are great, the meals fab and the staff are sweet, accommodating and helpful. Not often you get a full breakfast at 4.30... More

I traveled for several weeks in Colombia in January visiting both coastal and mountains lodges and resorts. I was specifically looking for wildlife and this is a must destination. Located a few hours "uphill" from Minca, the road in was a bit rough but not uncomfortable. The facility is situated on a hillside fairly high up in the Sierra Nevada's... More

Staying at El Dorado is a wonderful experience. The views and the birdlife are spectacular and the lodge is very comfortable with good food (delicious soups especially), and caring hosts. Most importantly, the lodge guide, Roger, does a brilliant job of finding and helping you see the birds around the lodge and on the trails. We stayed three nights which... More

This was a great experience. We came for the birding and saw many special Santa Marta species-at the lodge, below the area and higher on San Lorenzo ridge. It's a bumpy ride up the access road in 4x4s. The cabins are excellent: clean, in the woods, close to nature. The chef takes real pride in his work and the food... More
