Used Chez Bear as a location for alpine cycling break. Although not specifically set up as a cycling hotel out host, Jules, was able to provide track pumps and some local knowledge, along with good food and company. We had pretty much decided on our own routes before we came, which was perfect as there wasn't a lot of cycling...

After a long journey with two babies we were so happy to finally arrive at chez bear, greeted by Mike with a much needed drink, although it wasn't a vodka and cranberry. We had a great week with friends and family, the chalet was amazing and Mike was a brilliant host. Nothing was too much trouble, food was amazing, the...

This is the most stunning chalet I have ever stayed in and our hosts, Mike and Jan, are the main reason. They present the chalet as if it was their own home and the attention to detail is outstanding! I don't know how they managed to merge rustic, elegance, traditional alpine, homely ambience together but they did it with incredible...

Stayed here for 4 nights for our annual 5 day trip to the alps for cycling. We had the place to ourselves, and Mike was the perfect host. The rooms are very comfortable, all en-suite (one minor issue was that most rooms have a curtain rather than a door - quite typical in France but a little disconcerting initially) and...

We have just returned from 4 nights at Chez Bear. A party of 8 male cyclists, looking for a base to tackle some of the iconic Alpine climbs, around Briancon and beyond. I can only echo the sentiments of the previous reviews. Mike was a fantastic host from my initial enquiry to seeing us off at 05:30 on Sunday morning...

Stayed here on our GR5 hike. We arrived in Briancon via our hike. Mike came and picked us up and brought us back to this amazing chalet like home. The entire place is cozy and feels like home. The bedroom and bath are very clean. He will help make reservations into the best restaurants in town and take you as...

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Chez Bear! Micheal was friendly from the first email and the overall service was excellent. He even offered to drive us into town for dinner! Breakfast was fantastic. I would love to visit again in winter as the rooms overlook the stunning valley of Briancon.

We arrived at Chez Bear during a terrific thunderstorm and subsequent power cut but Michael made us very welcome and even drove us into town so we could have some dinner (and collected us). The room had a great view over Briancon and a comfy bed. Having just a curtain between the bedroom area and toilet/shower might not be to...

We happened across Chez Bear in the shoulder season and found it a great place to rest from touring the alps. The hosts welcomed us and made us a part of the family, gave us tips of where to go in Briancon and how to best enjoy the lodge and the old walled city. We sat out and enjoyed a...

“There are 5 rooms, 4 on the top floor and one on a lower floor. All are nice. 2 rooms upstairs look out over the valley which is lovely. Only 1 or 2 have baths, the rest have showers. However there are other toilets located around the chalet and another shower where the sauna is so don't worry if it's a large group.”
