We first visited Volca’lodges 3 years ago, and loved it. Our second stay was still lovely, but not as much fun as last time. Lionel is still in charge, but he has staff now to look after the place and the restaurant has a new chef, who can clearly cook, but the waiting staff are either new or simply poorly trained. It misses the personal touch I think, but it’s still a great place to stay.
Volca Lodges is a bit whacky and a bit bonkers in a good way. The lodges are built of what looks like re-cycled pine, and the lay out of the place we stayed in was a bit out of the ordinary but we enjoyed it. We were self catering and the cooking facilities were very comprehensive. It could easily accommodate 5 in comfort. There was good privacy too. The place if Pet Friendly, our dog loved it. Indeed he decided that the whole park was his! The Lodges are about 5KM from a town with good supermarkets and bars. It's about 15 minutes from the highway, not that you'd know it. It was very peaceful, There's lots of space, and we even had a view of the Puy de Dome, not that were worried about it. There was a comfortable reception centre and restaurant (they are in the Michelin Guide), but we'd had enough of eating out by the time we got there, and so didn't try it out. This is where the wifi is. Some would argue that having to be in the reception is inconvenient if you want to connect to the internet, but the reception was a big space, full of sofas and interesting paraphernalia, cheerfully decorated Lambrettas, pet rabbits and the like! The owners were very friendly, welcoming and helpful. Also, it's just a short drive to the volcanos and some fab walks. The geology and the local flora beggars belief - if you are a Brit anyway! In summary, a good place with good facilities and good value for money. I wouldn't hesitate to go back again.…
Very beautiful place with a great sightseeing. Clean, new and well thought lodges with a combination of wood style and spa atmosphear. The welcome is friendly and wonderful with very nice people. Restaurant for breakfast, lunch or dinner is very good with local products. Many interesting activities to do around this place. Sounds perfect for business workshop or family holidays... to do absolutely when you visit Auvergne.
Close to the Puy do Dome in volcano countryside, these lodges offer great comfort and flexibility. We stayed one night on our way through France, our second stopover here. The lodges are brilliant, of simple construction and a real home from home. Spotless and with fridge and simple cooking equipment....but do eat in the fab restaurant and spoil yourselves! Breakfast is huge and wonderful too. Do the Dome trip and make your stay worthwhile and do book a Jacuzzi with your lodge. You will not regret it! Wholeheartedly recommended to my fellow Trippers. We will def return as a holiday fave. And the owner...no one will do more to help!😎
If you're heading through France- and you're passing through I can thoroughly recommend these lodges. They're great fun and the areas is great for exploring. However the real highlight is the owner and the restaurant. Lionel is clearly passionate about good food and wine, whilst ensuring his guests feel very welcome.
