Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My family and I stayed in this hostel recently. The location was fabulous, rooms were decent size and well heated however these are the few positives of this hostel. Upon arrival, the ‘receptionist’ was extremely rude. Unfortunately the bathroom was covered in dust and there was constant banging from the room above. The receptionist had no time for small talk- the keys were handed to us and that was it. No explanation of rooms or facilities. It is a shame that the staff here are so rude as the area and location of the hostel are beautiful. A little friendliness and cleanliness would’ve gone a long way- due to how unapproachable the staff were we did not come forward with these issues at the time. In future we will check staff reviews before booking.

Could not fault a single thing about my experience at this hostel. Robert, the owner, is a thorough gent. He was very friendly and very informative on what to do in the area - as well as being great fun. Beds very comfy and throughout the hostel was sparkling clean. Will definitely be back!

Just had a lovely experience camping at and using the facilities of the Allie River Hostel in Doolin. The staff are helpful and friendly. The hostel facilities are clean and well maintained with sanitisers available for self- cleaning. The fully equipped kitchen and dining area with ample fridge room really makes makes camping a pleasure! Also must mention our friendly helpful fellow campers. A great experience all round. We will definitely be coming back. Three happy campers! Anne, Connie and Marie

Came here on a motorbike trip, 5 of us. Adva and all of the staff were 1st class. Handy location within walking distance of Doolin. Facilities were excellent and rooms very clean. All the best and see you again soon. Fae the Jocks - The Chappit Tatties

For 105 Euro per night, we shouldn't have to pay extra for a towel or cup of coffee. I feel like they really took advantage of us with the price and fees for extras. You can do far better someplace else. Maybe even find a nicer staff or a place with more room in what is described as a "family" suite. There were three of us and we could barely all stand at once - let alone fit luggage.

Have stayed in this hostel on a number of occasions over a number of years with friends and children. It is a wonderful spot and we have so many great memories of our time there. Robert and Adva have always been such welcoming hosts. The hostel itself is clean , comfortable and very relaxing.

We stayed at the hostel for one night to see the cliffs of Moher and the village of Doolin and it was a cheaper option than the rest of the places around the village so we didn't expect to many luxuries. The room was small but clean and a bit basic with no desk space or a mirror for my wife to use. They don't have a kettle in the room but they have a communal area for cooking and making drinks and a place to do the laundry on site. It's in a great location and only a 10 minute walk away from the village centre with the pubs and shops

Really rude owners when calling to ask about a problem with never receiving emails about a booking. They then proceeded to charge my card without authorization. Worst customer service I've experienced during my whole trip.

Response from Adva Sela, General Manager at Aille River Tourist Hostel & Camping
Responded 6 Sept 2022
Dear Guest, You made a booking with us a number of weeks ago for the 5-9-22. You received a confirmation email from our website of your booking and a follow on reminder email three days before your expected arrival. You informed us late on the evening of your expected arrival that you would not be staying with us after all. In our confirmation email of your booking which you received, it states that a cancellation can be made for free up to 72 hours before arrival otherwise full payment is due. As you only informed us late in the evening of your expected arrival that you would not be staying with us we charged your card the due amount. At such a late cancellation from you, it was not possible for us to receive a new booking for your room. To state that our receptionist was rude to you on the phone is untrue, we handle every phone call and request with the upmost consideration. Yours Robert Shannon (Owner)

Lovely sheltered campsite, alongside a river which was great for the dog. Pet friendly place obviously which was great and they limit the amount of dogs onsite which is also appreciated. As a camper you have access to all the hostel facilities which are great: showers, sinks, charging station and the most functional well laid out hostel kitchen I've come across. Staff are super friendly and helpful. It's a well oiled machine in terms of the processes to use the shared facilities which appealed to the organiser in me! I will definitely be returning here for another visit. 100% recommend.

I stayed two nights at the hostel in the deluxe double room with its own entrance. It was perfect, very cozy and I loved the sky light. The shower is one of those with a push button you have to hold/keep pushing or the water turns off, not unexpected at a hostel but FYI. The host was great, very helpful and informative. I was able to do a load of laundry for 5 euro, and they had a selection of breakfast items for 1 to 3 euros each. Nice location, and I had a very nice stay here.
