Doolin House was satisfactory. But that is all. Great great location. Not the best breakfast. And if you leave anything behind they wont return your emails to try get it back. Lol. It may be small, but I left my charger there and offered to pay whatever the postage was. Brand chargers are expensive and very difficult to replace. You had replied to previous emails before our stay, so I'm guessing the charger was taken by staff and you didn't wanna tell me that. Or taken by someone. How unfortunate.
I don't enjoy writing bad reviews because I get that people are trying to make a living. But, this place is just not good. The room is big, extremely basic, and very old, outdated everything. Shower was fine, but there was an array of other problems. We couldn't get on WiFi because we were given all the wrong information. The door would not lock from the inside, so someone could have walked right into our room as we slept. The toilet handle broke so we had to lift up the lever inside the toilet with our hand, and oddly enough, there was no breakfast offered. We didn't book it with the room but it was my understanding that we could add it on. When I mentioned this, it didn't seem to be an option. But my main issue was that the bed was by far one of the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept in in my life. We left early and gave up 2 nights that we already paid for. This is a low end hostel. There are so many cute little B&B's around Doolin. This is not one of them.…
We had a lovely time here just what we wanted and expected. Clean room with loads of space. Close to town and everything. Bathrooms were immaculate. All up we had a good experience here and the staff were very helpful Thanks very much Sir!
Some of my family flew in from New York & I met them in Doolin. They had booked Doolin House B&B because of the good reviews. I am now convinced that most of these must have been fake. As an Irish person I was embarrassed to think that this is what our overseas tourists were experiencing. From the outside the house is very impressive but inside is a different story. There was some kind of unpleasant smell in the hall. Behind the desk/counter in the hall - the floor was covered in junk mail. There was a handwritten note on the counter with the wifi details but the characters were a mix of capped and lower case letters so no-one could get onto wifi until the owner clarified the passcode. There was no bell or notice indicating how or where we could get hold of the owner. It was sheer luck on our part that we were coming down the stairs when he was coming through the hall. The quality of beds, pillows & bed linen were awful. The was no support in the mattresses & my bed had a boxed base & I spent the entire night awake as with the slightest move the base moved from side to side so I was afraid it was going to collapse under me. The walls were so paper thin that if someone opened a door to another room it sounded like our room door was opening. We didn't really sleep & our bodies ached in the morning from the beds. We couldn't get out of there fast enough - we had booked for a few nights but luckily we managed to get into another B&B so left after 1st night. Didn't go in for breakfast as none of us wanted to eat in the place -it didn't inspire confidence in hygiene. Overall I just felt mortified that tourists might think that this represents what Irish people consider to be an acceptable standard of accommodation. IT ISN'T !!!!!…
I've stayed at Doolin House a few times over the years because it was my traveling companion's lodging of choice. I was there both before, and after, the "renovation." On my first visit, I nearly froze to death from the wind and the damp coming in through the poorly insulated windows. I know this is Ireland, but I shouldn't have to sleep in every article of clothing I packed just to try to get warm. On my first visit after "the renovation," my husband and I were put in the "honeymoon suite." Ha! There wasn't one thing decorating the walls, the shower drained so badly that water overflowed onto the floor, there was no piece of furniture where we could sit next to each other, and the bed was like a rock. I could feel the springs. Breakfast is a joke. This place is way overpriced for what it is. We stayed at Bunratty Grove B&B at the start of our trip and paid 20 euros less: we also had sufficient heat, a nice, comfortable queen bed, full hot breakfast, and were treated like royalty by Joe and Maura. Anne and Michael at Doolin House are lovely people, but they should get out of the hospitality business.…
I stayed here 2 weeks ago with my gf and were really looked after from start to finish. Location is right in the centre and rooms were very big and comfortable. Thanks to Ann and Michael. Had a great night.
I stayed here last Saturday night... Lovely big in a beautiful location, only short walk to pubs. Room clean, Breakfast Excellent. Michael and his wife are a great team and are lovely people. Couldn't do enough for ya... Ill be back.....
We booked this accommodation on booking.com. The reviews raved about the breakfast and the friendly host. The pictures showed the breakfast room and a sign “Doolin House B&B”. When we arrived, we were told there was no breakfast. The host was unwilling to discuss this and told us to take it up with booking.com. When I emailed the website, they, too, were not open to discussion. Apparently, the place had stopped serving breakfast a few weeks before, but had not updated the listing. Furthermore, the room price was per room (not per person, as all other B&Bs we had stayed in) and very high. When we asked about this, we were told this was the going rate in town, but when we checked other accommodation, we learned that the price was at Doolin House was much higher. Though the place was spacious and clean, the furnishings were very sparse and cheap, such as a foam shower mat from the Dollar Store which didn’t look like it had ever been cleaned. Service at the hotel was okay. When we asked for a kettle, as the one in our room didn’t work, the host promptly supplied one, but it seemed like he avoided talking to us after our initial conversation.…
Doolin is a beautiful area full of history and culture. Susan at the Doolin House runs a great B & B with clean rooms and top notch hospitality. I highly recommend the area and the Doolin House for your accommodations! You won’t be disappointed.
Doolin as a place is beautiful but is was the stay at Doolin House that made my irish experience unique! Room was very clean and spacious ( I think it must have been renewed recently) the bed and fresh air made my sleep best in years and owners are so welcoming and friendly that I wish I could stay longer!
