Detailed Reviews
We arrived in Doolin without a place to stay. There was a sign in front that said rooms available and we were able to get a “family “room for €110. It was two rooms and a bathroom. Very, very, basic simple pine furnishings. One of the rooms had a twin bed and the other a double bed. The rooms were a large size. It is easy 5 minutes walking Distance to the best pubs in Doolin . It was clean with moderately good Wi-Fi. Small but great shower. Bed was comfortable enough. If you want Fancy this is not your place. We found it adequate and fair price. Think of it as more like a hostel but no kitchen.

This is not a five-star hotel, but it does not pretend to be. Look elsewhere to have every whim catered to down to the most minute detail. And it's true breakfast is no longer offered. However, Doolin House is more than adequate lodging for a stay in Doolin, and breakfast is available at several nearby pubs a short walk away. Our room was large and comfortable, with a double and a twin bed, a spacious closet nook, a small but comfortable desk/dressing table with mirror and chair, nightstands, a TV, a clean bathroom that included a tub/shower combination, and a lovely view of the hills and sheep. We felt the price was reasonable. We only had a brief interaction with Michael during checkin, but Anne was a delight the next morning before we left. She graciously accepted my halting attempts to use my "cúpla focal," responding with her own native Connemara Irish, and we had a warm exchange. I was invited into their own sitting room to wait while my traveling companion finished preparations for leaving, and was presented with hot coffee and tea plus a generous assortment of sweet treats. All in all, the entire stay was a most satisfactory experience and we would defiintely stay there again. My traveling companion wishes to add, in Irish:
D’fhán muid in “Doolin House” oíche amháin. Bhí sé fíor-chompórdach agus iontach glan agus ní raibh sé ach siúlóid beag bídeach ón teach tábhairne inar chaith muid an oíche ag ceolchoirm.
Bhí Michael ann le fáilte a chuir romhainn agus bhí comhrá iontach deas againn le Anne an lá dar gcionn. Gaeilge álainn Chonamara atá ag Anne agus bhí sé galánta í a chloisteáil. Is léir ó na grianghrafanna uilig atá le feiceáil don theaghlach gur seo lánúin atá lán de chroí agus de ghrá. Dóibh siúd atá ag clamhsán fán luach cuimhnigí gur seo ceann de na sraidbhailte is cáiliúla i gCondae a’ Chláir agus nach bhfuil Doolin House ach 9km ó Aillte an Mhothair.
Míle buíochas libh beirt a Anne agus Michael.

I booked Doolin House for a family wedding next year through Bookings.com in good faith. I rang this morning to confirm my booking as I had been tipped off that booking.com reservations would not be honoured. The gent informed me that our booking would not be honoured as they had not set up their 2016 rates yet. Difficult to believe a B&B refusing a booking which we were paying €100 per night for....a high price for a typical Irish B&B. Is it perhaps that inflated prices would be put in place for busy weekends in the area? .....I certainly hope not!
While I normally only post positive comments about fabulous experiences I have had worldwide....it saddens me to have to post something negative about an accommodation in my own country that I didnt have the opportunity to stay. A little honour goes a long way sir....but unfortunately or fortunately in my case I won't have to experience the facility that you seem to rate so high.

We had reserved a room for a wedding in September. 3 days before the wedding we received an email to say 'due to unforeseen circumstances they would have to cancel' I emailed back asking did they know any other available accommodation and my email was ignored. My husband rang and after several attempts to ignore the call they told him they had a death in the family. I don't know whether this was true or not but my parents in law stayed there and their room was not cancelled. We had booked the room before them also. The owner was very unprofessional and unhelpful and really left us stuck as wedding was 3 hours from home for us.

We stayed for one night in early October. Our room was pretty basic but the bed was firm and comfortable. There was lots of space but the "wardrobe" area was a walk-in area with a few wire coat hangers on a pole. I've never known an electric shower where you switch it on in the bed room then rush into the bathroom where the water has already started. Also, the hot and cold taps were the wrong way round. Breakfast was excellent.

I don't enjoy writing bad reviews because I get that people are trying to make a living. But, this place is just not good. The room is big, extremely basic, and very old, outdated everything. Shower was fine, but there was an array of other problems. We couldn't get on WiFi because we were given all the wrong information. The door would not lock from the inside, so someone could have walked right into our room as we slept. The toilet handle broke so we had to lift up the lever inside the toilet with our hand, and oddly enough, there was no breakfast offered. We didn't book it with the room but it was my understanding that we could add it on. When I mentioned this, it didn't seem to be an option. But my main issue was that the bed was by far one of the most uncomfortable thing I have ever slept in in my life. We left early and gave up 2 nights that we already paid for. This is a low end hostel. There are so many cute little B&B's around Doolin. This is not one of them.

We booked this accommodation on booking.com. The reviews raved about the breakfast and the friendly host. The pictures showed the breakfast room and a sign “Doolin House B&B”. When we arrived, we were told there was no breakfast. The host was unwilling to discuss this and told us to take it up with booking.com. When I emailed the website, they, too, were not open to discussion. Apparently, the place had stopped serving breakfast a few weeks before, but had not updated the listing.
Furthermore, the room price was per room (not per person, as all other B&Bs we had stayed in) and very high. When we asked about this, we were told this was the going rate in town, but when we checked other accommodation, we learned that the price was at Doolin House was much higher.
Though the place was spacious and clean, the furnishings were very sparse and cheap, such as a foam shower mat from the Dollar Store which didn’t look like it had ever been cleaned.
Service at the hotel was okay. When we asked for a kettle, as the one in our room didn’t work, the host promptly supplied one, but it seemed like he avoided talking to us after our initial conversation.

Doolin House is in a great location near to an excellent pub called McDermott's. The room was ok but nothing more for what we paid for. However I do not know how the owner is registered as an bed & breakfast host. He acts like a headmaster of the local school that myself and my girlfriend were still in.
I am glad that we arrived early as after 7 we would have slept in our cars. We advised that we would arrive at breakfast at 8am and he spoke for 5 minutes if the girlfriend wanted a duck egg. She eventually said yes.
After a beautiful evening in McDermott where a few pints of Guinness were sunk and great music was listened to, we arrived at breakfast at 8;45. It was our mistake but we are on vacation. I was told in no uncertain fashion that I was late for breakfast, he will get to us when he was able. For 20 minutes we were offered nothing. It was embarrassing. When it did come, the scrambled eggs were inedible. The duck egg that was so promised never arrived. I walked out in disgust but not before more guests were embarrassed. One had to to move as he had booked them in the wrong room and the other had to wait outside the breakfast room for 15 minutes as he had no room for them. Ridiculous in this day and age.
This was Basil Fawlty without being funny. I walked out in disgust leaving the key behind.

19 of us booked in for two nights fri & Saturday, it was €50 pp per night which would have been ok if we had actually got a bed each.there was six rooms between 19 people & five of us ladies were put in one room with two double beds that were pushed together so the five of us had to sleep in a row all squashed together.for the five of us it cost €500 for the two nights in those terrible conditions with not even a bed each to sleep on.the morning we were leaving there was no hot water to have a shower,no towel change & we had to wash ourselves standing in the bath of cold water.between all of us they made €1900 which was not good value for us because the living conditions were appalling, the day we were leaving we were hurried out of our rooms before we could even get a bit of makeup on.i would never stay in this accomadation again and wouldn't recommend this accomadation to anyone else.

Response from kyntire, Front Office Manager at Doolin House
Responded 27 Sept 2013
Hello Polly Many thanks for your review, we always like to receive reviews from our guests as it helps us improve our quality of service, which is something we are really proud off at Doolin House. There are a couple of points on your review that are not exactly correct Polly, first of all you originally booked a two night stay for 17 people, you texted Michael one hour prior arrival to say the numbers had increased and he called you to explain the number of beds would not accommodate that many people. You were charged €40.00 per person per night, making the total cost €1360.00, not €1900.00 as you state on your review, further more, Anne kindly returned €40.00 to you from the €1360.00 as you needed money for the bus driver. Regarding the hot water issue, each room has an individual electric shower, there is no way you could not get hot water out of an electric shower. Towells are changed on a daily basis Polly, but Anne could not get inot the rooms as you were all asleep, if you needed extra towells that morning all you had to do was ask. Doolin House had a total refurbishment done last June so everything in it is brand new, you can take a look at our website www.doolinhouse.net to see the very high standard of our rooms and furnishings. On a personal note, I must say your group was very disruptive to the guesthouse, ringing the door bell all through the night. Our Check out time is 11am, however when the girls woke up at 12 noon, Anne kindly cooked you all breakfast. The rooms were not vacated until 1.30pm some at 2pm and were left in a terrible state. The white bed linen had dreadful stains which will not come out and they have had to be replaced since. I had guests booked the following night after you left but I had to re allocate them to a different guest house as the rooms were not ready to be re used again, this cost us money and it is also not good for our business reputation. If you wish to dicuss this matter any further, or any of your party has any queries on the bill, we will be happy for you to give us a call at any time. Michael & Anne
