To say that my hosts were gracious, warm, welcoming, helpful, accommodating, highly professional, courteous, discreet, and highly articulate would only reflect a mere fraction of their exceptional characteristics.

Whilst cycling on the return leg of my tour of Limerick, Meelick, Clarecastle, Newmarket on Fergus, Killnaboy, Kilfenora, Lisdoonvarna,Craggycorradan East, Ballyreen, Craggah, Fanore, Ballyvaughan, and Kinvarra... Phew!! that quite some amount of cycling 😎👍... I had a misfortune meeting with a deep and slippery pothole on the road.

After collecting myself and requiring some assistance, I hobbled my way to Ballinalacken Castle Country House Hotel.

Thank God Declan answered the door. After assuring and convincing Declan that I had no concussion, breaks, or fractures; we agreed it was best that I stayed overnight.

To cut an long yet highly entertaining true story short(ish); my stay was gloriously comfortable, with truly warm and welcoming staff, stunning views and the best breakfast that I have ever had.

I'm not someone who regularly uses superlatives; however I must convey my gratitude to the owners, management, and staff of this simply sublime Four Star Country House Hotel.

Thrilled!

Very Best Regards,

Simon-Peter Spratt

We spent over a week in this warm, quiet, special hotel. Every staff member kind, friendly and helpful. Amazing silence and comfort. The simple presence of wonderful silence, sea, sky and countryside views. Central location to amazing walking on the glorious Burren, with nearby villages for crafts, music, and local history. Aillwee caves and birds of prey minutes away for unique experiences. Ferry to islands. Doolin cave for geographical discoveries. So much to see, and all from the comfort and security of this old, timeless hotel, which has everything that a holiday should have....rest, silence, comfort. Very grateful there was were no noisy pools, tv lounges, discos. Thank you. We will return.

What a wonderful stay in the Doolin area! Declan and his team did not disappoint with their warm personalities, excellent suggestions, and deliciously prepared food. We loved the intimate nature and the ability to get to know the other guests at dinner or in one of the sitting rooms. Additionally, Declan gave a wonderful tour of the family castle remains!

Beautiful, peaceful setting just outside of Doolin. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. Grounds are lovely and the views across the meadow of the Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher are stunning. We enjoyed the evening tour of the castle and learning more about the history of the property and surroundings. Breakfast was good, with a few hot selections that are made to order, and a nice cold buffet with various fruits, yogurt, granola, muesli and pastries. We had dinner one night at the hotel and it was very good. Although we had a rental car (really a must for getting around and exploring the area), the hotel helped us arrange transport into town one night so we could enjoy drinks and a nice bottle of wine with dinner without having to worry about driving.

Couple of helpful tips:
- If you have dinner at the hotel, request your table in advance. There are lovely tables by the windows to take in the views of the gardens and scenery beyond, but our table was in the middle of the room by the server entrance. Still a very good dinner, but not the best ambience.
- Be careful if they ask you to tip upon checkout. I thought we were tipping for our dinner the night before, but they tipped a % on the entire stay.

We stayed for 4 days in this rural castle hotel enjoying the relaxing atmosphere in a beautiful setting. The owners and staff were exceptionally accommodating, friendly and very helpful in addressing all our questions and needs. They were efficient and knowledgeable, always nearby to help us in any way. The food was plentiful and delicious, especially the Breakfast buffet and menu. Our rooms were fantastic and the beds were the most comfortable we slept in in a long time! Lastly, we were able to use this place as a great home base for all the daily excursions we carried out on the west coast of Ireland. We can’t wait to stay there again!

We were absolute stunned when we drove up to the house. The views were spectacular, rolling hills and the Cliffs of Moher from our room window. The on-sight castle tour was such a bonus! They have the coziest bar with plenty of Jameson and Smithwick's to relax after a long day exploring Doolin. The full Irish breakfast was delicious and served in a beautiful sun room where I could've spent the whole day happily drinking coffee. This should be a must stop on anyone's itinerary when they visit Ireland.

Best accommodations we stayed at during our 10 days in Ireland. We stayed four wonderful nights there. Rooms were cozy with a warm decor. The heated towel racks were a nice piece in the bathrooms. Our view out our bedroom was the Ballinalacken Castle which was about 100 yards away. It is located 10 minutes away from the town of Doolin and just a bit farther from the Cliffs of Moher. A nice 10 minute walk from our stay is the Doolin Cave. Most importantly, Declan and Cecelia, who own the country house were delightful hosts who represented the Irish people with their warm, friendly and knowledgable personalities. The breakfasts and dinners were exceptionally Irish. The in-house bar is nice for a drink of Jameson Irish Whiskey or a Guinness at the end if the day. When we arrived we made a comment about how much we like the Irish lemon drizzle cake and at the next breakfast there were slices of the cake for us to eat. To top things off, I left my sentimental Harris Tweed cap at a local bar in Doolin the last night of my stay. Declan contacted the owner to get my cap back and Cecelia mailed it to my home in the US? A must stay in southwest Ireland.

Exceeded all our expectations of what a stay at an Irish country inn would be! Our extended family of 13 from the US were showered with hospitality. The rooms and common areas are elegantly appointed, there's a 15th century castle ruin next door (do ask for a tour), a cozy Pub, and a dining room where hearty Irish breakfasts are served. Nearby are the Cliffs of Moher and the quaint village of Lisdoonvarna. We are already planning our return visit.

We drove three hours from Dublin and arrived at Ballinalacken Castle Country House where we stayed for four glorious nights.
The owners, Cecilia and Declan are terrific hosts. The rooms are immaculate, the meals most delicious, the staff so attentive and the location is really perfect. We enjoyed their Pub each night and were grateful to be able to drink and not have to drive. It’s a 10 minute drive to Doolin, where you can shop, have a drink at a Pub or two, or eat a meal. Also, from Doolin we caught the ferry to the Aran Island of Inis Mor where we took at wonderful Pony and Trap tour given by John Dirrane, ask Cecilia for his contact info. He did an outstanding job sharing his knowledge of his island home. The Cliffs of Moher are only 20 minutes away and that is a break-taking experience. We visited a Sheepdog demonstration which was delightful in the Burren area. You could spend a week at Ballinalacken, make it your home base and take day trips to so many interesting places. Location, location, location! Ballinalacken is a wonderful place to stay! Oh, Declan gives a very interesting tour of the Castle, don’t miss that!
Also, don’t miss the chance to eat dinner there, The Chef is outstanding!

OMG, this place was spectacular. The base of the hotel was so quaint and filled with antiques and beautiful furnishings. The bar, while small was equally adorable. We stayed in a room in the main building and they were beautifully decorated, four poster bed, gorgeous view and spacious The beds were comfy, the bathrooms were roomy and had a nice shower with heated towel racks. You might think that was the best, but no, the food at the restaurant was amazing!! OMG, I can still remember the breads, and the fish I had. Just so scrumptious, not to mention the dessert!! And folks say the food in Ireland is mediocre. I beg to differ!! Breakfast was equally amazing with a spread of just about everything you can think of. And as if that weren’t enough, we had a spectacular sunset and got a personal tour of the ruins of the family owned castle. I just can’t rate this place and my experience there highly enough. 10,000 stars!!

Can you walk in and out of town from this location or would you need to drive?
Answer from eaglelake20
Crown Point, New York74 contributions58 helpful votes
I agree that it's best to drive to town. We walked from the hotel to the Doolin Cave, which is really close by and on the road to Doolin town. But we felt like we were taking our lives into our hands because the road was so narrow, with no shoulder to step off onto if a car came by. Plus, the road is pretty curvy, so sightlines are bad.

Hi all , We are a four star hotel with a restaurant and a full bar which includes cider and Guinness .As it is a family run hotel there is always a member of the family delighted to fill a drink for the guests.

Hi there! There are taxis in town but not many, the pubs in town are great but the restaurant in the hotel is one of the best in the area. Pub in the hotel is VERY quiet and you'll find you're often the only one there, but it's very quaint and the service is good. No live music in the hotel pub. The actual town has a few really good pubs, and it's the centre of music so you'll find it all good fun. Recommend O'Connor's and McGann's (locals' favourites). Enjoy!
