We had the trip of a lifetime with family (adults & children). The Country house is beautiful, warm & welcoming, well-appointed artwork & a lovely library were a bonus. Our hosts were always available, their breakfast service was a perfect way to start the day. The views from the rooms are spectacular, the cliffs of Moher, the Castle ruins (don't miss the tour) and Galway Bay are all right out your window. There's a cozy pub that's perfect for a nightcap- or drinks by the fire is also an option. The house is close to town and perfectly situated for exploring Doolin, Lisdoonvarna the cliffs of Mohr, and more. We're already planning another trip back!

My husband & I have been staying at Ballinalacken Country House Hotel on every trip we’ve made to Ireland since our first trip in 2006. We fell in love with this magical country home overlooking the beautiful Irish countryside on Ireland’s west coast & we dream of returning every year. The warm welcome from the family who owns it as well as their welcoming staff always makes us feel so spoiled. The restaurant serves a scrumptious breakfast replete with a sideboard filled with fresh fruit, pastries , meats & juices along with a cooked to order menu that includes smoked salmon as well as the full Irish! My husband & I love the beautiful romantic restaurant; their chef is top notch & we always dine surrounded by lovely Irish music. I have brought many friends here and they’ve always loved the unique ambiance. We’ve stayed here at least 15 times through the years & it’s always the highlight of our visits to Ireland!

My first time in Doolin. This hotel is a hidden gem among the most beautiful countryside I've ever seen. Declan, Daniel and Cecillia and all the staff couldn't have been more welcoming hosts. The hotel itself is simply beautiful. Every room is different, every window the view will take your breath away. The food never tasted anything like it. Worth every cent and more. I will most definitely be back. Hope you have a wonderful season as you all deserve it. Wonderful hosts couldnt recommend any more highly.

Highly recommend this place! We were given a 30-minute tour of the fascinating ancient castle by the property owner which was above and beyond our expectations. The hotel guest room was spacious and very comfortable and the breakfast was fabulous. The owners were very helpful with suggestions about local restaurants. The hotel is located in a quiet beautiful setting overlooking the ocean and there is a view of the Cliffs of Moher.

Declan provided an informative tour of Ballinalacken Castle up and down 3 flights, which was about a 6 - 9 storey castle when all the floors were in place! I was glad to be a short 5’2” person when going into the 4th bedroom upstairs. I was about the right height for easy access😉.
Breakfast was great. I loved the fresh baked scones and took one for a snack later in the day.
Dinner was delicious.
We were made so welcome right from check in. We were in Lady O’Brien’s room with great views out to the Aran Islands and magnificent sunsets over the ocean. The wildflower gardens are beautiful. Great for a pre-dinner drink in fine weather.
Easy close access to Doolin Caves and Doolin pubs.
All in all a memorable stay!

We stayed three nights in May during a trip along the west coast. We enjoyed our stay very much and can definitely recommend it. The house is in the countryside - extremely quiet. The rooms have recently been redecorated and offer a more than adequate level of comfort and luxury. From many rooms you can indeed see the cliffs of Moher in the distance. The full Irish breakfast was very good. We enjoyed very much the restaurant of the hotel in the evening. After a long day of sightseeing it was nice to relax there, enjoy a really good meal and be able to drink some wine or beer. I found the lamb to be really excellent. The hotel is ideally situated for excursions: the cliffs of Moher, the Burren, the boat to the Arran islands are all just a short drive away.

On a trip to the Burren, we used Ballinalacken Castle Hotel as our base and did not regret our decision. From the moment we arrived until our departure we were treated with courtesy and consideration which was never intrusive at any stage. Breakfast was sufficient to keep us going on our sightseeing trips and it was always a treat to come back and dine in the restaurant while savouring fine food with spectacular views. We even fitted in a tour of the castle ruins on the grounds and found out a bit of the history. The bar was laid back for a few late night drinks and staff were always willing to serve as long as guests wanted. All in all it was a pleasant and tranquil stay.

This was our second time staying at the Ballinalacken Castle and Manor House and it was the highlight of our trip. The location is perfect for visiting the Aran Islands or traveling around the Burren. The views are breathtaking and the Manor house is superb. Our di ner was excellent and we enjoyed drinks in the pub before and after our meal. The breakfast was delicious and it was difficult to say goodbye to Cecilia and Dennis when we left. We are looking forward to staying here again during our next visit. The Ballinalacken is a must during your trip to the west coast of Ireland. An absolutey perfect experience.

The charming Ballinalacken Castle sits high on a hill overlooking the Atlantic, Aran Islands and Cliffs of Moher and offers beautiful scenery, peace and warm hospitality. A warm Irish welcome is waiting for everyone who comes here, and you feel like friends when you leave because of the hospitality of Cecilia and Declan, who are always willing to help with whatever you need during your stay.

Accommodations are very comfortable with spectacular views to the coast and Cliffs of Moher in many of the rooms. Beds are so comfy for a good night’s rest and warm towels are waiting for you in the morning in your bathroom.

Breakfast filled us for the day, from the buffet table with the best raisin scones ever, to the hot hearty breakfast. Having dinner in their gourmet restaurant was a real treat. It was so good, we came back a second night. We thoroughly enjoyed the rack of lamb, chicken, salmon and vegetarian option. Save room for dessert, they’re all delicious.

Declan does a very interesting historical tour of the castle. This is a special treat for guests learning about the people and living conditions of centuries ago. Getting to the top and enjoying a panoramic view of the area is fantastic.

Denis’s Bar, named after the patriarch of the Ballinalacken, is a fun place to meet other guests, drink a pint, relax, have a nice chat and to thoroughly enjoy some delicious cocktails a la Daniel, the best barman!

While I was sitting in the drawing room one cold rainy morning, Cecilia came in and started a peat fire for me. Little gestures like this is one of the reasons that I highly recommend staying here and why we return so often, their caring nature for their guests and hospitality for all.

My fiancé and I had a lovely 3 night stay here. We stayed in the queen room with ocean views. The room was beautifully decorated, spacious, and very comfortable. The breakfast offering was great and had no chance of us going hungry! We ate in the restaurant one of the nights - I would highly recommend it to anyone staying here. It was very tasty and had great options. The location is perfect for visiting the main tourist attractions in County Clare. I definitely think we’ll be back!

Can you walk in and out of town from this location or would you need to drive?
Answer from eaglelake20
Crown Point, New York72 contributions58 helpful votes
I agree that it's best to drive to town. We walked from the hotel to the Doolin Cave, which is really close by and on the road to Doolin town. But we felt like we were taking our lives into our hands because the road was so narrow, with no shoulder to step off onto if a car came by. Plus, the road is pretty curvy, so sightlines are bad.

Hi all , We are a four star hotel with a restaurant and a full bar which includes cider and Guinness .As it is a family run hotel there is always a member of the family delighted to fill a drink for the guests.

Hi there! There are taxis in town but not many, the pubs in town are great but the restaurant in the hotel is one of the best in the area. Pub in the hotel is VERY quiet and you'll find you're often the only one there, but it's very quaint and the service is good. No live music in the hotel pub. The actual town has a few really good pubs, and it's the centre of music so you'll find it all good fun. Recommend O'Connor's and McGann's (locals' favourites). Enjoy!
