We absolutely loved our stay at Ballinalacken! The staff were very hardworking and dedicated and kind - even shipping an item left behind! Love that there is an old-timey bar in the hotel (great for an after dinner whiskey or a sunset gin and tonic on the picnic benches outside). Loved also the castle and the daily tour. They had loads of parking! Excellent breakfast with both hot and cold options. The dinner options were also very tasty ( tho admittedly on the pricey side, worth it if day - quality was very good). Would recommend eating there one night but then also trouncing into Doolin for a night at the pubs. Would highly recommend Ballinalacken for your trip!
Our stay at Ballinalacken was at the end of our 11-day road trip through Ireland, and was one of our most favorite stays. We were lucky enough to reserve a suite, which was located at the very end of the hotel and featured a gorgeous sun room with spectacular views out over the ocean and Aran Islands, as well as views into town and the Cliffs of Moher off in the distance. We could spend hours sitting in the sun room, watching the weather fronts come and go. We were also treated to one of the most spectacular sunsets I'd ever seen in my life. I also highly recommend booking dinner here during your stay. The food is amazing - delicious, home-cooked meals. We ate there both nights of our stay and I ended up having the same dish twice, it was so good. There is also a little bar that is separate from the restaurant where you can order drinks to have there or take back to your room (Jameson nightcap anyone?). And breakfast each morning was perfect. The staff was very welcoming and friendly (a special thank you to Cecelia for the warm welcome and for the many times she changed my reservation dates due to the pandemic). I would highly recommend the Ballinalacken Castle Country House and would love to return again some day.…
We loved staying with Declan and Cecilia at their Castle Home. Best stay in Doolin. The accommodations and the sunset view from our room were incredible. The staff and the details to breakfast every morning were super. We also thoroughly enjoyed Declan’s tour and history of the castle. Visiting Doolin???? Then stay at Ballinalacken.
Highly recommend this place! We were given a 30-minute tour of the fascinating ancient castle by the property owner which was above and beyond our expectations. The hotel guest room was spacious and very comfortable and the breakfast was fabulous. The owners were very helpful with suggestions about local restaurants. The hotel is located in a quiet beautiful setting overlooking the ocean and there is a view of the Cliffs of Moher.
This hotel is a highlight of Doolin. Cecilia and Declan clearly take so much pride in making sure their guests have everything they need. It truly felt like staying with family. The hotel is beautiful, and the restaurant is great! Definitely the castle tour is a can't miss -- Declan shares the history with incredible detail and personal connection. Thank you for an amazing stay!
The views are stunning....they literally look like something from the Irish Board of Tourism. You can see the Cliffs of Moher and the Atlantic while enjoying a great Irish breakfast or dining on fresh sea bass for dinner. The rooms, beautifully appointed in decor from the 19th century (house built in 1840) are good sized and very comfortable. In fact, our bed was the most comfortable of any in our two week vacation. And Ballinalacken Castle Country House does indeed have its own castle. Make sure you sign up for a late afternoon tour with Declan. You will find it fascinating. And, most importantly, Cecilia and Declan are the consummate Irish hosts! They define Irish hospitality.
Arriving at Ballinalacken Castle Country House, we received a warm welcome from Cecilia and were immediately offered an upgrade to the Honeymoon Suite. Quite the surprise. Unbeknownst to Cecilia, it is nearly our wedding anniversary, so thank-you for that. We were offered a tour of Ballinalacken Castle with Declan, which was very interesting. We booked dinner in the Country House for the first night of our visit and it was delicious. The dining room and staff were efficient and friendly. There is a great cold and hot choice for breakfast. Our Honeymoon Suite was a lovely room with a view of the Cliffs of Moher out of one window and the Aran Islands out of the conservatory windows. Such a comfortable bed too. En suite, tea and coffee making facilities, tv, hairdryer etc. Within walking distance to Doolin Cave and only 5km from central Doolin. There is a cosy Drawing Room and Bar too. I would recommend this destination as a place to stay and visit. Thank-you Cecelia, Declan and team.…
Declan provided an informative tour of Ballinalacken Castle up and down 3 flights, which was about a 6 - 9 storey castle when all the floors were in place! I was glad to be a short 5’2” person when going into the 4th bedroom upstairs. I was about the right height for easy access😉. Breakfast was great. I loved the fresh baked scones and took one for a snack later in the day. Dinner was delicious. We were made so welcome right from check in. We were in Lady O’Brien’s room with great views out to the Aran Islands and magnificent sunsets over the ocean. The wildflower gardens are beautiful. Great for a pre-dinner drink in fine weather. Easy close access to Doolin Caves and Doolin pubs. All in all a memorable stay!
Ballinalacken Castle Country House Hotel We were welcomed by the largest field of wildflowers I’ve ever seen. They were planted to help support the honey bee population! We instantly fell in love! This hotel is like coming home for a visit! Located outside of Doolin, in the country a short (15min) drive to town. The owner of the estate, Deklan (and his lovely wife Cecelia) have been wonderful stewards of this 1840s estate. It has been in the family since 1938. On the property us a 14th century castle ruin in which Deklan gives free tours to his guests every evening. The bedrooms in the hotelare immaculate; polished, spacious, appointed with beautiful, high quality furnishings and linens. A coffee maker is a special treat. The bay window provided outstanding views of the Atlantic Ocean, the Cliffs of Mohr, and a spectacular sunset. The gourmet dinner ( not included) was a 5-Star meal. Locally sourced and made-from-scratch for under $60/2. The included breakfast was cooked to order and taken in the cheery dining room. The entire staff was friendly and so accommodating! The only regret is that we didn’t stay longer.…
Dear wonderful people, We recently stayed two nights at your beautiful establishment - and we should have booked for two weeks! Our stay was just wonderful - from the outstanding service in both reception and the dining room, to excellent food, to the quality of the room, to the magnificent views, to the beautiful weather you arranged for us:) . My partner especially enjoyed her time in your garden where she sunbathed with her book beside your historic castle, enjoying the stunning panorama you have. I have travelled a fair bit and I must say how excellent your staff is. Truly, high quality service. Thanks for some fabulous memories and we will spread the word. Best, IF=
