I got an offer to good to refuse following the easing of Restrictions in May this year. We had stayed in the resort part of the property before and our three kids absolutely loved it and were delighted with the prospect of going back.

I got an email 3 days prior to check in regarding the current procedures and restrictions. The hotel has worked to ensure that their guests are not too discomoded because of covid 19 and has put in place hand sanitizer stations throughout the hotel as well as a temperature check facility in reception. Staff wore masks but guests were not required too unless they wanted to.

Our room was clean and serviceable and the double bunkbed was a lovely surprise. However the ensuite was a little run down. Despite housekeeping not going into rooms until day 4 of a stay, they were very accommodating when we met them regarding additional supplies for our room and other requests.

The biggest concern among our group was that breakfast would disappoint. Thankfully even covid could not kill or do away with the Irish buffet breakfast. There was plenty of food and guests could replenish their plates and refill glasses as and when wanted.

My only concern here was the lack of social distancing when queuing and as guests walked around the restaurant. The staff were plentiful and helpful and again all masked up.

We ate in the hotel three nights out of four. Our meal in the restaurant was the best overall. The food was beautifully presented and cooked well. The only disappointing part over the three nights was that the kids menu never varied, there was no special for them, no offer of half portions and it was the same menu in the bar and in the restaurant. Out of the four mains, three had chips and there was one pasta dish. The meals we had in the bar were definitely not the best food either myself or my partner have ever eaten however the convenience for us and the kids is really what kept us there for the additional two nights we ate in the hotel. Although the time we sat to dinner was recorded and we were mindful of the 90 minute limit we never felt rushed in any way. We could finish drinks on the patio while listening to live music playing outside.

The grounds and amenities on the premises were part of what drew us back. The walkways have been extended and go through beautiful woodland, the playground and swings were very popular with kids, especially in the evening time after dinner. Crazy golf was popular with families and being close to the bar and restaurant was busy with the overflow of kids once meals were finished.

Overall, our stay was a happy one and the time spent there was more memorable than the last despite not getting any time in the pool. This has to be booked well in advance to be a be able to get a slot. The staff could not have done enough for us and were generous with their smiles, time, advice and friendliness. I have been recommending this hotel to family and friends on foot of our experience.

Myself and my partner stayed in the Breaffy House Hotel on June 29th. The hotel had just opened back up after being closed for a few months due to government restrictions in relation to Covet 19. The hotel is spotless and the staff make you feel very comfortable, while still ensuring that every precaution is taken to maintain the health and safety of their guests.
We stayed in the Moet Suite and we were very impressed. Thanks to Noel who took our reservation and looked after us very well during our stay. We had dinner in the bar and it was top notch food! The grounds around the hotel are magnificent and there is plenty of wide open space to get out in the fresh air and plenty of seating areas to stop along the way for a break.
Every staff member we encountered was friendly, polite and very professional. We have stayed in allot of hotels over the past few years and these guys are definitely the cream of the crop.
Breakfast was very nice with a wide range of options available.
Thank you for a fantastic night.
One Tip: If your a smoker make sure you bring cigarettes with you as the hotel does not sell them and a taxi into town is €20 return. Better still, Give them up :-)

My family and I recently stayed at the stunning 4 star Breaffy House Resort in Castlebar, Co. Mayo. We were greeted at reception by Michelle and Noel who were both extremely friendly and efficient. After settling into our rooms we enjoyed a light snack and a glass of the house Sauvignon Blanc (highly recommend) in the renowned Healy Macs bar. We were served by Tom and Mairead who were both very engaging and equally friendly. Our tour of the wine cellar was a key highlight. We were greeted and escorted by the General manager; Wilson downstairs to what was originally the home of the gunroom in this 19th century Victorian manor hotel. This is a man who has a penchant for French wines and a knowledge that parallels! The bespoke wine cellar houses 28 award winning wines by Decanter including a mix of classic French wines, new world wines, as well as a range of champagnes and premium Ports, Cognacs and whiskeys. We were delighted to indulge in a bottle of Amarone Valpolicell a nice full bodied Italian red wine with dinner. Our dinner in the Mulberry Restaurant was served by Michael and Cliona, with Managers Carmel and Padraig ensuring that we had everything we needed. They were all very engaging and the food and service was excellent. My husband and I had upgraded to one of the junior suites which is well worth the extra spend and includes a luxurious room and bathroom both of which were very tastefully decorated. This hotel is a 'must see must stay' destination for 2020!

Where to start? This place has 4 stars but yet its 3 star sister hotel on the same grounds is nicer, fresher, cleaner.
The bathroom in our room was so dingy; cracked tiles, dirty grout. And the shower curtain, I cannot believe anywhere is still using them in 2020 not to mind a 4-star resort. Every which way you turn in the shower it sticks to you because the bath you're standing in is narrow.
Also, there was no extractor fan in so after the family (2 adults and 2 children) washed themselves the bathroom was damp with condensation and nothing could be seen in the mirror for doing makeup, hair, shaving etc. Bear in mind families are asked to shower in the hotel rooms after swimming too so no way of avoiding this.
The room was very hot with no air conditioning. It was hard to sleep. The windows opened yes, but a bit too far given we were on the ground floor. This wouldn't suit someone worried if someone would get in during the night.
The walls in the room were bare. No paintings, wall hangings, etc. The curtain was ripped.
There were nice cookies with the tea/coffee tray though. The beds were clean and comfortable.
The breakfast experience: one server touched pancakes with his bare hands to see if they were warm enough before handing them to a guest, the man serving the toast had his Covid 19 face covering below his nose each morning. The hot food was nice though.
In the bar the servers would plunge the neck of soft drinks into the glasses to make them pour quicker. Very unhygienic practice. All to save a few seconds pouring the soft drink properly. Customers going to the bar didn't know where to stand or queue and there was nobody to tell them.
At the front of the hotel, just outside the front door there are congregations of smokers in the evenings. Nobody tells them to move. The worse the weather the more they huddle around the door. So, when you are trying to go in you have to excuse yourself and you can get a lungful of second hand smoke and who knows what else from the unmasked groups.
The restaurant (Healy Mac's) had diners seated right beside a doorway, so people were passing behind their shoulders all night and sometimes brushing against them.

The playgrounds are nice and the lawns are kept beautifully.

But honestly, for the money I would expect more. Give me the 3 star Breaffy Woods any day over the House.

The playground.

We stayed in the Breaffy House Resort on NYE 19.
As I booked on booking.com when we arrived, we discovered we had booked into the Breaffy Woods Resort and discovered that there was no bar or restaurant running that evening in this part of the resort. As it was NYE we wanted to be around where the people were. The on-duty manager very kindly accommodated us into the main hotel with a little extra fee. We were however sent to what felt like an ‘overflow’ room. It could do with a little touch up and was very basic. We went to the bar and decided we'd have bar food rather than the restaurant for a more relaxed evening. We ordered the 'Mish Mash' main course and a side of fries. While the dish itself was very tasty it was a very small portion and we both felt hungry afterwards. It arrived in a bowl with no side salad or trimmings and looked a bit lonely only for the fries. We ended up ordering a pizza a while later!
Breakfast the following morning was just ok. Nicely set up in the dining room but maybe lacked a little seasoning.
All in all, the staff were very friendly, and the main part of the hotel is very nice, but I don't think I’d book in here again. Very little value for money.

We booked into the hotel to celebrate our recent engagement and to relax after a hectic christmas. The spa and food were lovely. Unfortunately our room was over the bar and we were awoken by the residents bar for a wedding at 2.30am. No fault of the wedding but we did not sleep a wink. It was a wedding and of course people deserve to have fun. We complained to the manager on duty the next morning and suggested it maybe better allocating rooms above the bar to wedding guests and the manager confirmed they will take these comments on board. We were then offered a late checkout which was fine, however cleaners kept coming into our room after 12 noon. Overall our stay was disappointing considering we booked into the hotel to relax and chill out. I felt we would have been better staying at home as would have slept.

Recently stayed with friends in Breaffy House Hotel. Our first break since Covid, and while we were excited to get away for the night, we were a little apprehensive as to how the experience would be with social distancing etc. We needn’t have worried. From the moment we checked in, we were warmly greeted by the receptionist, who briefly went through the safety precautions, gave us a choice of breakfast time reservations and advised us to make a booking for dinner. The bar and restaurant staff go out of their way to make you feel comfortable and confident while they adhere to hygiene protocols, while also keeping a sense of humour and professionalism.

All in all a great stay. Well done Breaffy !!!!

We stayed here in July for what was supposed to be only 2 nights. We ended up staying 5!! The hotel is a pleasure to stay in and especially during Covid. They had everything in place to keep the staff and residents safe and well advised at all times. At reception there is a temperature device, a UV wand for disinfecting the card machines etc and hand gel.
The staff can’t do enough for you at this hotel. There are too many to mention here but we have got to know them on first name basis as we have been back to the hotel and stayed a another week. A massive thank you to both Una and Wilson for all their hospitality and help with anything we needed.

The hotel has a fabulous spa which you have got to visit. There is a pool which is very relaxing to use after your spa treatments. The walks around the hotel are a total treat as the grounds are massive and kept so well. There is pitch and putt also so a win for any kids or big kids!!!
The food in both the bar and restaurant is top quality so I recommend eating in both! Again the staff are amazing!! We will definitely be back to this hotel as it is so well run during covid and every step is covered to ensure the safety of both the staff and visitors. It was a lovely relaxing visit on both occasions.
my top tip... visit the wine cellar and treat yourselves to a lovely bottle of wine, it’s a little piece of hidden magic. :)
D&P ;) xx

Stayed here with my partner for two nights mid week, hotel was quiet which we were expecting for mid week. The room was large and clean the showers were cold at best and when we spoke to reception about this they said that they would get maintenance to check and if it could not be fixed they would change our rooms, neither happened!!
Food in Healy Macs bar was average and over priced for bar food, we ate in Castle bar town the 2nd night.
Breakfast was not included in the price tag of 178e which i could not believe and breakfast was at an extra cost of 15e pp.
Parts of hotel looked grubby, and while we wanted to do some of the forest walks there were no maps available at reception for this.
Over all very disappointed and would not stay here again.

We recently stayed at Breaffy House Resort for 3 nights. We could not get over the Irish welcome from reception's Caroline, she informed us all about the Covid procedures that were in place in the hotel. We then proceded to go to our rooms, in general the rooms were very spacious. On the first evening we ate in the bar, the staff were excellent, we felt very safe as there was lots of social distancing in place. Garry looked after us in a very professional way. The highlight of our stay was our experience in the Mulberry restaurant, our meal was first class. We were informed that this was there new gourmet menu which they are introducing into the Mulberry restaurant, I would highly recommend everyone to try this experience. We got to meet the general manager, Wilson, he couldn't have done enough for us. When departing the restaurant we got to meet the chefs, Philip and Val, who were working in the open kitchen, they were all so friendly. It was great to meet the chefs as we never got to meet them in other hotels. Breakfast was also a really good experience, we also got to meet Una who planned our day trip to Achill Island. The weather was beautiful, there was lots of lovely scenery and lovely people. We usually go abroad but we had to stay because of Covid. I felt very safe as the following procedures were in place, temperature checks given at the main door, sanitising units in all lifts, bathrooms and hallways. The staff had great knowledge of the Covid procedures. Our staycation was well worth it, we will definitley be returning to Breaffy House Resort in October. Sam Mehigan.

There is a fridge in a small amount of rooms, but its not standard. If medicines need to be stored in fridge they will store for you. I would say its not standard in a lot of hotel to have a fridge
