We booked a 2 night stay at the end of September but ended up staying an extra night. The hotel is quite old style (has a Downton abbey feel to it which i loved). The staff are so friendly and helpful. There is a one way system due to covid and sanitisers are placed all around the hotel. It felt very safe!!!. We booked a sea view room which only cost less than €10 extra and my god that view was just amazing. The weather was fab for the most part but even on the day thay it was a little hazy it did not take from the view. The breakfast is served to order so that was also a plus. You have to let them know the night before what time you would like breakfast too. The hotel itself is situated facing the Kilory Fjord, there is a cruise along the fjord also. Aasleagh Falls is about a 8 minute drive. The village of Letterfrack is roughly 25 minutes away, Kylemore abbey is 20 mins, Clifden 45 mins Cong 40 mins ( there's a statue of John Wayne holding Maureen O' Hara from the move "The Quiet Man") and Westport about 30 mins so in my opinion this hotel is the perfect place to use as a base. We will most definitely be back.

Arrived at the Leenane Hotel in the beautiful Connemara village with Killary Harbour right in front of the building. Hauntingly beautiful I would describe the setting and once inside it takes you back in time. A roaring turf fire greeted my wife and myself and were checked in by one of the owners (I think) Couldn't meet a nicer person and all Covid precautions adhered to. After checking in we walked to our room with the hotel using a 2 way system, one way to rooms and another way back again. No lifts here in the hotel but it adds to its character. What a view we had from both the bedroom and bathroom through the large sash windows. Weather was terrible but we just made ourselves a cuppa in the bedroom, kettle, etc supplied and sat down to enjoy the darkening evening, absolutely beautiful. Bedroom had a double and single bed, very comfortable, TV, good wifi, a table , 2 chairs, with old style furniture that blended right in with everything. Heat was adequate and the bathroom had everything a guest might need with a good long old fashioned bath, electric towel rail and a view from the window to die for. We had dinner booked for 8pm, wonderfully cooked by a chef who knows his trade at very acceptable prices. Breakfast on both days of our stay was good, service by a lovely friendly staff who know how to chat to guests without being intrusive. Free newspaper to read in the mornings from reception in the large comfortable drawing room which again was decorated in the old style . There's a new wing to the hotel as well which we didn't venture into but looked good and business wasn't busy and all handled efficiently by a knowing staff. While there the news broke that the following night all counties were moving onto stage 3 alert because of the Covid 19, so we were one of the last guests, as the hotel had decided to close down the following day after the news, hense my review title at the outset. How sad for the owners and staff and we wish them well over the winter. When they open again we will be back .
We grew up in the 60's so not too much luxury in those times, this hotel brought us back in time and we loved it. Big sash windows, large old bedrooms, big baths, open fires, friendly people who know how to treat guests and appreciate their custom. Thank you for our 2 night stay.

An outstanding family run hotel.

We do not generally 'like' hotels but have stayed here about ten times.
The location is excellent, being at the head of Killary Harbour: several of the bedrooms have a small balcony and have a great view up the fjord.

The staff are really good in all departments. The big lounge is so comfortable and nicely furnished.

The food is superb. Dinners over 4 nights were varied in terms of menu and all constituent parts from starter through to dessert were very good. The wine prices are very reasonable, being nowhere near the common 'retail x 3+'.

Located about halfway between Clifden and Westport, there are many drives and walks available, encompassing lakes, mountains and beaches. We drove 1 hour south and flew to the Aran Islands (Inis Mor) with Aer Arran ... 9 minute flight at amazing value for Senior Citizens @ €15 return. An easy day trip and return to amazing food!

Leenane Hotel has a great location overlooking Killary Bay, and is about 10 min drive from Glassilaun Beach where you can go diving at ScubaDive West.
As diving season had just started it is really easy to do initial dives at Scubadive West and Leenane Hotel is very handy to stay in as there is good parking and it is within easy reach of the dive centre. I found that there were another two coups e diving who were staying there also!

Food is very good and bed is very comfortable - after diving you tend to get quite sleepy so this is important!

Staff are very friendly and Guinness is good.

Very good value also especially if you do a combination of meals and accommodation.

On Friday night on staying further north Mayo a small group of us were researching accomadation for the following night. A quick late night email was promptly responded next morning by Agnus conveying, both availability and value. It was the best choice, and on arrival we were again greeted by a pleasant gentleman at reception. We also booked dinner for later on and that was also delicious. The setting of course is breathtaking tucked in the valley bordering Mayo and Galway. This hotel would put the best 4stars to shame and is star of the hospitality sector in the west. Will certainly be back.

Second time to visit here in about 5 weeks. We ate here twice during our last visit but this time we stayed in the hotel for 3 nights in early August.
The room was nice, comfortable and clean. The view from the room is exceptional.
The food I can't fault at all. The portions are huge and the standard of food is really really good.
The staff are young, hard working and extremely helpful. They're very genuine and warm.
All staff pay a lot of attention to covid guidelines and are constantly cleaning their hands and wear masks at all times.
I'd stay again in a heart beat. Its like a home away from home.

We were immediately impressed by the hotel on entering the foyer. If quaint and quirky doesn't appeal to you then perhaps this isn't the place to stay but for us it was just perfect. I had requested a room with a view and we weren't disappointed. We loved the size of the room and the antique furniture, but star of the show was the sash window, a real blast from my childhood holidays. The views of the fjord are stunning. The girl who checked us in, we were an hour early, was friendly and efficient even with a mask!! Covid restrictions were explained clearly and succintly and we were given time to choose a dinner and breakfast slot. Having unpacked we retired to the bar and had a seat at a fabulous fire while we enjoyed a pre dinner drink. Food was first class...compliments to the chef...wine was very drinkable and the residents lounge was just the place to chill out after dinner and relax. Bed was comfortable and the hotel while appearing busy was extremely quiet and we slept extremely well. Breakfast was again excellent and the waiters and waitresses were attentive and friendly. We had an issue with the shower not draining properly which I mentioned on checking out. I was thanked by the receptionist and the matter was passed on to a man whom I think may have been one of the owners. We loved our overnight stay and fully intend enjoying a return visit hopefully in the not too distant future.

Stayed here on a Saturday night for a very reasonable £106 sterling for a room with the most stunning views with breakfast included. Staff were all friendly and food was very good . Room was large and with double doors leading to the balcony the views were amazing. Having read a previous review saying that the hotel was dirty I must say that any photo taken a few centimetres away would make any hotel look unkept but maybe this person should stay at home with their curtains closed as they don't seem to be able to find happiness....... Having stayed in many hotels I can honestly say that this hotel is well worth the price and you won't be disappointed....like I say some people expect 5 star facilities for 3 star prices ...you won't find a cheaper hotel in a stunning location in Ireland.

Just returned from a 5 night stay at Leenane. We were in room 41 on the second floor with a superb view over Killary Fjord. The hotel definitely has a rustic charm and is in a superb location. The hotel garden area just across the road and by the water's edge was idyllic. Our room was a great size although a bit dark in decor. It was reasonably clean, just the odd area that needed a bit more attention. Cobwebs in various places that were not visible at first, but by the time we left, we were aware of them. Whilst I realise that old world charm is the theme, it was in need of a bit of redecoration or a bit of TLC. Towels were changed daily, however as someone else has commented, whilst clean they were really in need of replacing. Fluffy and white could not be used to describe them. The bathroom too was a bit outdated but the shower was good and there was plenty of hot water whenever you needed it. Overall the room was adequate for our needs and we definitely slept well on the comfy bed. One thing that should be considered for inclusion is an in-room safe, although the hotel do offer use of a safe at reception. We were staying on B&B & evening meal basis. The food was good & plentiful, perhaps too plentiful. We certainly did not go hungry. Whilst the menu changed on a daily basis, it was pretty much the same. So by day 4 we were ready for a change of evening menu, so we opted for the A La Carte menu for our final 2 nights. This proved to be a better option for us and surprisingly did not cost us any more either. The wine choice was very good and reasonably priced. The staff at breakfast and evening dining were all extremely pleasant and helpful. The bar area was small and definitely in need of an upgrade. The charm of the bar would not be lost if the decor was spruced up a bit and the carpet was gone or replaced. The Large sitting room across the hallway had an eclectic mix of seating and furniture and was a great place to relax after your meal with a drink as the bar was small and always busy. We really did enjoy our stay in Leeane and would definitely recommend it, bearing in mind the comments we have made. Would we return? If we ever decided to revisit this area of Galway, absolutely yes.
