Detailed Reviews
Unfortunately the landlords of this house do not do breakfast, hence the one star reduction. I was told that straight upon booking, so I knew what I let myself in for. And there is a Cafe right opposite where you get a reasonable breakfast for a reasonable price (12 €), so this did not matter too much to me. Otherwise there was nothing to complain about. The bed was very comfortable indeed, the room could be darkened very well by a blind and a curtain and was certainly big enough for one (very messy) person, everything was looked after and cleaned very well, and I found the landlord a very nice and knowledgeable person.

A really lovely experience. The room was charming, very comfortable and spotlessly clean. Excellent shower. Noel was welcoming and very informative and ensured that we had a great stay. Situated right in the centre of Enniskerry we made use of the lovely coffee shops and amenities such as the wonderful Powerscourt house and waterfall on our doorstep. It is also situated right next door to the Schoolhouse for Art where we attended a watercolour course. We would certainly come again and we would highly recommend this guesthouse. Ronnie and Deirdre

I had to change my plans quickly and called Ferndale to see of they could put me up for the night at a moment's notice. I believe it was around 5pm, so certainly not usually possible. Noel and Josie were incredibly gracious and friendly, accommodating and warm, full of good advice and good cheer and sent me off with plenty of information about how best to enjoy the beauty of Enniskerry.

Visited for a weekend with my wife. Warm welcome from the owner who was very helpful in advance of our visit and also during our stay. Unfortunately the breakfast was not available for the two days we stayed but there are a couple of lovely local cafes that provided a great breakfast. The B&B is an old style building and the décor, furniture and facilities are perhaps in need of some refurbishment. A harsher reviewer may have made more of an issue of these failings but it some ways it adds to the experience. If you are looking for accommodation with all the modern bells and whistles this is perhaps not the place for you but it suited us well and at €80 per night it provided us with a good base for our trip. Close to a bus route and a €17 taxi trip away from Jonny Foxes bar. The bus into Dublin takes about an hour.

Awful experience. The owner was very rude. His wife seemed lovely but was allowed to interact from point of booking and during our visit.
We paid full price advertised for b&b and no breakfast available. The rooms are so old and musty smell. Needs refurbishing. The shower did not work at all. It was impossible to turn the on switch. Noel the owner spoke to us like children giving us rules and unnecessary instructions from opening the door etc. Insisted on cash only payments.
We were visiting enniskerry for family wedding. After we checked in we went across the road to hotel to join the reception. After 30 minutes the owner followed us into the hotel to tell us ‘under no circumstances “ were we to bring the key home. So very rude. Guests at the wedding heard and seen this bizarre behaviour. Which was very embarrassing as guests at the wedding. Check out was 1030 which was perfect yet owner was banging in the door at 920 to tell us we needed to be out at 1030. I would give one star for clean comfortable bed and location only. Would not recommend

M. Corcoran was so kind and helpful. We liked the house, the bedrooms. Everything cosy and clean.
It also was nice to have a little bar (with nice coffee in the morning) and a little shop next to us. So we had everything we needed for our overnight stay.

My family and I stayed at Ferndale B&B in Enniskerry in August 2018 and we had an overwhelmingly negative experience. The house, rooms and location were all satisfactory, however, my issues with Ferndale B&B lie solely with the hosts. From the outset numerous members of my family were treated with great suspicion and the owners Josie and Noel (in particular) were very rude and distrustful.
BOOKING:
I booked several months in advance of our stay for a family wedding. I rang the B&B a few days before the wedding to simply confirm the date and price of the location. When I asked the price of our stay Noel proceeded to launch into an incredible rant about the other accommodation options in Enniskerry. He proceeded to lecture me for 15 minutes about the failings of Powerscourt Hotel and the shortcomings of the B&B situated across the road. This was utterly bizarre as I was merely ringing to confirm our booking. Perhaps this should have warned me about what was yet to come…
CHECK-IN:
When we checked in Josie, the female host, was very confused. She didn’t know which room to put us in. Later on, we would learn that we were the only guests in the B&B that night which makes this even stranger than it already would be.
RETURNING TO THE B&B AFTER THE WEDDING:
We returned to Ferndale B&B at approximately 2:30am and were greeted by Josie. At this stage we just wanted to get to bed but Josie began to question us about the whereabouts of the other guests who had booked in that night. We did not know these guests but we felt that Josie was blaming us for their failure to show up! Once more, this displayed huge mistrust on their part.
BREAKFAST:
We had to select our breakfast when checking in and the options were very limited. We couldn’t even get a full Irish breakfast which is the standard for most other B&Bs I’ve stayed in. When I went down to have my breakfast I was never greeted or told anything. I was served what I ordered the day previously and the food was abysmal. The scrambled eggs were soaked in butter. Noel never interacted with us and never even said “you’re welcome” when we thanked him out of good manners. When my daughter didn’t finish the inedible food he had dished up he questioned her in an abrupt tone about what was wrong. Again, this displayed a complete lack of professionalism and manners.
PAYMENT:
When booking the B&B our Credit Card details were taken. However, upon arriving we were told we had to pay in cash NOT card. I found this very suspicious because why give credit card details and then not have a card machine?
When my sons-in-law were putting things into their cars for the journey ahead Noel followed them out and kept saying “€100! €100!” obviously thinking they were leaving without paying. We were all still inside so they obviously weren’t leaving.
OVERALL:
Paying €50 each to be mistreated and dealt with suspicion really isn’t worth it. The hosts are very paranoid and I’ve honestly never experienced anything like them before. They really did not want us in their house and we were never made feel welcome. My son stayed in the B&B across the road and had an altogether different experience. My advice is simple – DO NOT STAY AT THIS PROPERTY!

We didn't feel 100% comfortable staying, which is a shame as the location is central and perfect for a base. We didn't receive a particularly warm welcome from Noel but Josie was lovely. She wasn't seen the rest of the trip because she was poorly. I was asking what information to write on the form we were asked to fill out when we first arrived and everything was snatched out of my hand! Even when I changed a 7 to a 1 he had to write over it again, it looked like a rectangle! I didn't say anything as just thought it was a bad mood or something.
We were lent some books and maps which we were told on numerous occasions "I want them back" fair enough some people forget but if we borrow we treat it as our own and return it.
There were Rentokil boxes in the room and we had a few bites on our bodies.
The rooms were clean and tidy and kept well.
One day we came back mid afternoon and our door was wide open, panicking as we had money, a laptop and other valuables in there I went in and shut the door while my husband went to the shop across the road. I had seen Noel and tried to make eye contact to say "were back" to which I thought he had seen. I climbed into bed (fully clothed fortunately) and was looking through the photos I had taken on the walk we had just got back from, I had been in the room a good 10 minutes and in that time I had heard the male owner speaking to someone outside the room for a good five minutes. The next thing the door opens, he had let himself in and he was walking in with fresh towels! I was shocked as I was expecting my husband. He said "Oh! you wasn't there 5minutes ago", I replied that we had been back about 10 minutes. He carried on sorting the towels out and basically shrugged me off as if I was lying to him! The rest of the time we were in the room we kept the key in the door.
We couldn't really relax, the last night there was so noisy. We were having an early flight as we were driving and flying early and there was bumping banging and shouting for a good hour!!
We stayed 3 nights and paid quite a bit for it. When I handed the money (and books and maps) over I never got a thankyou!! I found this quite rude but bit my tounge as I was brought up to respect people. We only got a thankyou for handing the keys back.

Woke up to bed bug bites!!! And no we didn't bring them in, after waking to find blood spots all over the sheets we lifted the mattress and found cracks in the wooden headboard below the mattress at the head of the bed where you could see them all. Grosssssss!! Also found dead ones under the bed. Definitely was a problem here before our single night stay. Lesson learned to check out your bed where you're staying even if a 4 star b&b. Now we have to throw out our luggage when we get home and have all our clothes cleaned before we enter our house. Thank god this is our last stop before flying home.
Wish we had known first to always check your room before settling in, be forewarned! The owner was very appolgetic and we didn't have to pay for the night, but we'll still be out cost of new luggage and the hassle when we return home. This is as of aug/sept 2013. Double check this has been addressed before you book.

Response from tnscorcoran, Owner at Ferndale B&B
Responded 6 Sept 2013
We accept that you had a bad experience during your stay, and we apologise once again for that incident. We recognise that it was a cause of hassle for you. We were just as appalled at this occurrence in this particular room, hence have addressed the problem immediately. We have always put a high priority on hygiene, cleanliness and high standards of service and value, as you can see from the feedback of our past visitors. We engaged the ongoing services of Rentokil, a high quality pest control agency to eliminate this problem. They are a specialist firm in this area, who have guaranteed the effectiveness of their treatment. We have also replaced this bed with a new orthopaedic one. The agency told us that bed bugs are a frequently occurring occupational hazard for the hospitality industry as they could be easily brought in unknowingly by visitors and are hard to see during the regular cleaning routine. Hence the reason to have frequent checks by this expert pest control agency. We wish to assure past and future clients that we will continue our efforts to give excellent service and value, in clean and hygienic surroundings.

The breakfast was of very poor quality and sub standard. When we asked for more home made bread, we got a strange reaction. The double bed was unbalanced also as it was as old as the hills. We wont be returning, poor quality overall.

I can't remember Patrick H. We have a menu for breakfast:- it includes 5 choices of cooked breakfast; also fresh fruit salad, yogurt, Prunes, grapefruit, yogurt, 5 cereals , homemade brown bread, toast, tea/coffee. We always ask guests if they require more bread, coffee, tea, etc. etc. I wonder if he is sure he stayed here; perhaps it was another Ferndale B&B.

I don't know about a hair dryer since I don't use one, but I do know that the Ferndale is one of the best B&Bs I stayed at on a 16 day trip through Ireland. Don't miss it.
