My room as a solo traveller was really nice and that was appreciated as sometimes you can be given smaller or shabby rooms. The dinner was good and plenty of social distancing, breakfast was tasty and plentiful and the woman who served it excellent and friendly, perfect! The building itself is lovely and is a very pleasant 20/25 minutes (max) walk over to Powerscourt Gardens, so its a great location. Am surprised to see all the bad reviews, all the staff were quite friendly, with the exception of one guy behind the desk a couple of times who wasn't rude, but looked positively miserable and disinterested-so maybe if I'd dealt with him this would be a different review! :) Will be back for sure anyway.

Booked an overnight stay here. Was looking forward to it. I have to say I was a bit disappointed. Reception wasn't very welcoming. There was a wedding there that day and the guests [children] from the wedding were running up and down the corridors until the early hours of the morning.
The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and the breakfast was beautiful.... plenty of choice and prompt service with friendly and efficient staff.
When we went to our room it was lovely.... a bit of tissue on the floor, an empty water bottle under the bed.... maybe just something for staff to look out for before they leave the room. Otherwise it was grand. Plenty of toiletries and hot water!

We arrived ahead of schedule, and our room was ready and all for us which was brilliant. The beds were very comfortable, the only thing I would say there are no sockets near the bed, there are only sockets for the TV and hairdryer.
Dinner was so disappointing, with the online menu not being the one we were given, and with very little choices. We were so unhappy with the choices that after reading the menu we went onto just eat to see what other options were available to us.
Breakfast was delicious and very fresh.
The spa was beautiful.
All in all, I would return but would not get dinner there.

Myself and my family booked a great package with spa treatments in the Rainforest Spa and dining included.

Pros: To begin, the grounds and public spaces are absolutely beautiful- like something from an Oscar Wilde play. The breakfast and dinner were incredible and completely justified the price we paid for the package. If I could give 5 stars just for the chefs and lovely waiter here, I absolutely would. We had also booked a triple room and were given a very spacious room with three double beds, which was very appreciated.

Cons: Where we were really let down was the cleanliness of the bedroom. Some things can be ignored and we are by no means nitpickers, but the floor and walls in particular were shocking. Sequins from a dress had fallen on the floor, pieces of tissue, crumbs, there is absolutely no way that it was vacuumed from before the last guest. We didn’t dare look under the beds. The walls were stained with splashes of coffee and dirt. Housekeeping standards seem to be very low and retraining needed, especially judging from other reviews I have now seen here.

The afternoon tea for 3, as pictured, came to a pretty standard €75. However, for this cost, a bottle of wine or Prosecco really could have been included as it was four small plates of very basic plain sandwiches and mini cakes and we did not feel the price at all justified for what we received.

Front of house staff could have also been a little warmer. I have given a lower rating as we would not stay here again from the experience we had with the comfort and cleanliness of the room (the most important part). This time however, we do completely believe the price paid was validated by great meals and an amazing experience at the external Rainforest Spa.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your recent review. I am delighted that you enjoyed your breakfast and dinner experience both from a food and service perspective and that you had an amazing experience at the Rainforest Spa. I am very sorry to read about the issues you had with bedroom cleanliness and that you did not think the price charged for afternoon tea justified what you received. I will be speaking with both the Accommodation Manager and Head Chef in relation to this very valuable feedback. We would really like to welcome you back in the future to enjoy a stay where everything surpasses your expectations. Yours sincerely, Ann Downey General Manager

The day before we were due to begin a holiday in Kildare the county was put into lockdown. The Summerhill House Hotel "rescued" our much needed break with availability for a family of 3 for a week the following day. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is in a beautiful, quiet, yet easy-to-reach location really handy for Dublin, just what we needed. All the necessary distancing, sanitisation and safety provisions were in place and the regulations regarding alcohol sales with food were being applied professionally but with a lightness of touch by the staff that allowed us to feel totally comfortable and entirely at home. Our room was spacious, just right for staying a week, and the revised housekeeping arrangements were very very easy to get on with.
We agreed that of the numerous places we have stayed in the last years we haven't been anywhere with such consistently pleasant and accommodating staff. The COVID crisis has presented hospitality personnel with massive challenges and government rules to comply with and it was particularly painful to hear "fellow" guests, on a couple of occasions, being entirely obnoxious and unpleasant to the waiting and bar staff because of the limitations placed on the serving of drink. It is a further testament to their professionalism that they behaved entirely correctly and did not rise to the abuse they received. The "guests" concerned should be ashamed of themselves.
The breakfasts were plentiful and consistently delicious and the restaurant and bar menus inspired us to "eat in" for the majority of our evening meals which were excellent and, again, served most pleasantly, even though the smiles were behind masks.
It was a staycation like no other for a great many reasons but I unreservedly recommend the Summerhill House for a stay that was as pleasant as could be in every way possible.
Thanks.

After a beautiful drive and walk around Enniskerry and surrounding area my 3 sisters and I decided to have lunch in nearby Summerhill house hotel. What a lovely Surprise this hotel was. It was oozing charm and character and a perfect place to relax after our walk. We ordered lunch and after a short wait lunch arrived. It was delicious. The staff were all lovely and we all felt very safe as all restrictions regarding distance and hygiene are adhered to. We were all very impressed and we all decided we will be back, maybe for a longer stay next time. Well worth a visit in beautiful surroundings.

Very disappointed with my stay here. The hotel is in desperate need of renovation which is understandable due to the current pandemic. Myself and my mother experienced a number of issues over our two night stay- in our room the TV wasn’t working which took 3 attempts to get a solution I had to go down to reception twice to raise this as the phone in our room didn’t work, the shower had a trickle of water the first evening making it very difficult to enjoy a warm shower. We were also very disappointed with the restaurant as online there was a wide range of food available. Unfortunately this wasn’t the case as the menu for both meals were very limited. The morning we were due to check out a man tried twice to get into our room at 8:45am even tho the door was clearly locked and had the chain on it which made us feel uncomfortable as my mother was in the shower at the time. Only for my father had paid for the second night we wouldn’t have stayed the second night.

Our experience with Summerhill House Hotel was less than desirable to say the least, from our interaction with whoever was manning the phone line during lockdown through to checkin. The receptionist whom I contacted in May about our stay in August as we were supposed to be attending a wedding was rather obnoxious on the phone. Her exact words were 'We're open from the 20th of July there's nothing stopping you from staying'. I had booked with no free cancellation. When we arrived yesterday we were told our booking had been cancelled a few weeks ago, by whom I still don't know because it wasn't either of us. I had to show my credit card statement to prove I had paid for the room upfront back in December '19, produce the voucher and also show the e-mail I had received from Otel.com the day before checkin reminding me to print my voucher. We were told that we had paid for a townhouse room but they were giving us a room in the hotel. Nowhere on the voucher had it mentioned townhouse. The room itself was basic, if it had of been clean it would've been ok but there was a film of dust on the dressing table and on the TV, there was pieces of enamel missing off the bath and the room itself was so warm - no sign of aircon in it. I don't ask for much when I stay somewhere but I do like to be treated courteously even over the phone and for the room even if basic to be clean and maintained. Our experience was a disaster from start to finish, I hope everyone elses experience is not the same as ours.

Dear Guest, Thank you for your review. Please accept my sincere apologies for the many issues that have arisen with regard to you wishing to cancel your booking for a Wedding which has been postponed to 2021. The majority of Wedding Guests book directly with the hotel and are then attached to a Wedding block which means it is quite straightforward to transfer their bookings to next year. Third party websites, however, do have different terms and conditions which make it more complicated. I am very sorry to read that you did not enjoy your visit in August. I do hope that you will visit Summerhill again in the future and have a more enjoyable stay. Yours sincerely, Ann Downey General Manager

I came back as it was were I got married 10 years ago . All i expected in the room was a little card stating happy anniversary. When i said something to the reception they said that there was a bottle of proscecco at dinner ( but see below how we treated ).There was nothing at all. Then it was amazing hotel, fantastic staff very helpful . But things has changed .

The room I was staying in( a hospital bed would look more appealing). Travell Lodge Hotel have better decor. The first 1 noticed was a chain hanging off the door ( which should have been there for security). The second was a light switch over the bed when you tried to touch it wobble ( light switch are not suppose to wobble). The 3 thing was wall paper was torn which I could forgive . The 4 thing was who ever checked the room didn't even notice the drawer in the middle of room was not put back in properly. One of the most dangerous was the lamp where the tv was when I tried to turn it - there is a very sharp object sticking out .

The bathroom which is a wheelchair bathroom. The chair the rubber is nearly wasted a away . Around the out of the shower there is rust . On the way into the bathroom the ramp come grouting is very rough. There is no face cloth in the bathroom

The staff in restaurant looked like they do not want to be there. As they walk around they ignore customer. At one point the only way I could get the attention of a waiter was another customer pulled a waiter aside and told them we were looking for them. I ordered a steak rare , it was so well done you could have bounced it off the walls. When it came to the the dessert my husband ordered a creme brulee (Eating raw or undercooked eggs is an invitation for foodborne illness. ... Desserts crème brûlée)

When I talked reception staff member to explaining the situation. She back chatted me , ignorant, never listened, rude. When I asked for her name her way of dismissing the situation she told me everything was comped (on the hotel). All I wanted was a special reminder of my wedding for 10 year anniversary, instead I got a kick in the ass.
I wanted

Having read some negative reviews about this Hotel I was a little apprehensive about booking our stay here but as we wanted to visit Enniskerry and its Disney transformation I booked it anyway.
Was I glad I did! From start to finish we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this little gem of a Hotel.
The tree-lined drive into the grounds is beautiful-complete with a timber swing hanging from one of the large trees. There is ample parking and a large outdoor dining/drinking area sheltered by more trees. COVID guidelines and sanitisers were in place and all staff we came in contact with were friendly and efficient. We had dinner in the restaurant and it was delicious as was breakfast the next morning with a lovely choice on both menus.
We would definitely recommend a stay at this Hotel.

Hi Maree, This is a very pleasant hotel, but it isn't the US style travellers' retreat.... so I do not think that it has guest laundry facilities. Having said this they can - I think - have clothing washed and ironed on a 24hr service. Regards, Toby
