So, this is our short story of the two nights stay at Coolakay b&b. Our trip around Ireland was not by car. We are a family of four, with children aged 4 and 7. The bus dropped us in Eniskerry from Dublin (there's one every 30') and the b&b was 4km away from town. It is very well indicated through the road, although there's not a path for walking all the time. Yvonne wellcomed us as if we were family and gave us a nice room. It wasn't very big but it was comfortable, which was what we really needed. The b&b is isolated from the rest of the houses and that has pros and cons as you can guess. They have a magnificent garden with different tables and chairs for you to sit and enjoy the views. They have sheep and three cute ponies that our children enjoyed feeding. In the evenings we relaxed there with a nice cup of tea available for all the guests in the house while our children ate some sandwiches. This was our only option for eating since there aren't any restaurants or stores nearby. If you need food or any other facilities you have to go to Eniskerry, but Yvonne said that there's a taxi service that could be hired anytime. Many guests used it to go to the airport, for example. Anyway, we went there for hiking and all I can say is that the forest and the mountains around are absolutely breathtaking. After the more than generous breakfast that they so kindly prepared for us, we were fuelled to visit the Crone woods and Maulin mountain as well. The great waterfall is private and you have to pay for visiting, and many paths around the house are private too, so be prepared to follow the road until you get to your destination. I can tell that my children didn't want to leave if this helps to any family wondering if paying a visit is worth it.
Trust me, it is!

We were so lucky to be recommended this place by a local who lived nearby. It is such a scenic and tranquil area with a nice farm with ponies , well maintained garden and full Irish breakfast. Room is clean and comfortable. Yvonne is such a friendly host. She provided sliced carrots so that my son gets to enjoy feeding the ponies. It is close to Powercourt waterfall, restaurants & pubs and 30-40mins drive to Dublin. We would highly recommend this place to all our friends who are visiting Ireland in the future. The only regret was that we couldn’t stay 1 more night in this place as we were too late to cancel a hotel reservation in Dublin.

I have to say that Yvonne is the nicest host I have met in Ireland so far. As soon as we arrived she showed us to our room. It was tidy, clean and decorated with much love. She then made us reservations at a nearby restaurant as we were very hungry from a long days drive. She goes out of her way to make her guests feel welcome.
The breakfast ist great as is the location.
Thank you Yvonne for making this last stop unforgettable.

Worst nights sleep I have had in years. So lets get started:
The bed itself is a box spring and made horrendous sound every time you move.
The mattress is old and stained. They are so worn out that you have to stay dead centre or you will roll out. It tilts on on the edges so you feel like you are going to tip over the edge. The noise of them, lord almighty it's so bad that you fear turning over with someone else nearby. The sheets are old, piled fabric and so uncomfortable! Not even a flat sheet! The bottom sheet is fitted and then a duvet. In the height of summer and not a flat sheet for the sort of money they are charging.

The bathroom, the shower head holder is broken and meant you need to hold it yourself.
The bathrooms are so narrow you cannot spread your legs while on the toilet! I've never experienced the likes of this, it is so narrow I could not get my legs apart enough, less than 3 feet wide! The sink is opposite the door and comes out so far that you will bump against the door to the bedroom.
Toilet paper is like sand paper.

The wiring is messed up! Lights flickering all over, and no there was no storm. Changed the bulb and still flickering. It gets better, there is rust leaking out of the sockets in the room!!

Breakfast, you do not get offered a vegan option, you need to ask and then explain what a vegan is so my wife could have some food. Took 15min just to take our order. The cooked full breakfast was bland, overcooked and took 45 minutes to come out when there was only 7 people in the room! No sound is played at breakfast. Everyone is whispering. The couple next to us were complaining about how bad it was. Want some toast? Ask for 4 slices and you will get 4 half slices... as in two slices of bread. Not enough butter in the place, people going from table to table finding some. Couldn't ask anyone for some either because no one was around. The tea does not even come in a pot! You get this tiny little cup that is smaller than my china tea set! You get two mouth falls and then need to go boil the kettle for another. It's absolutely daft.

The woman in charge Yvonne, I wouldn't dare say a word against her, to her face. She is the sort to get nasty. Even the couple next to us smiled to her face and left as fast as possible.

The wifi does not work, the passwords do not work. You can't get a good internet signal their either on any of the networks.

Parking is up a steep hill with the house below, the slope is dangerous and not something you want to try if you are mobility challenged.

My husband and I have stayed at Coolakay B&B many times over the last 20 years. We have brought family and friends with us and we can say that we have enjoyed each and every visit. Yvonne is so very welcoming and you instantly want to take her out with you to a local pub. So much fun and very accommodating. We highly recommend adding Coolakay B&B to your itinerary in Enniskerry.

Lovely stay at Yvonne’s. She is the kindest hostess you can imagine, she awaits you with a nice cup of coffee or tea and is genuinely interested in your trip. If you would like to go to dinner, she’ll call you a cab.
Breakfast was great and the surroundings are simply stunning.

After landing in Dublin, we made our way to Wicklow for our first night’s stay in The Emerald Isle! Yvonne greeted us upon our arrival, and she treated us like family from the moment she met us. She is so warm and welcoming! The Coolakay House is located amongst rolling hills and there are picturesque views surrounding this little B&B! It was a great way to start out trip! I would definitely recommend this B&B for anyone traveling through Wicklow on their journey through Ireland. The rooms were tidy, the beds were comfortable, and the full Irish breakfast was amazing! Thanks again Yvonne for such a great stay!

We were soaked to the skin when we arrived and Yvonne looked after us so well, drying our gear and settling us in so nicely. Everything was very clean and the facilities were brilliant. Showers were fantastic. Next morning the breakfast was superb, much better than you would get in a posh hotel. The view of Wicklow from Coolakay was just beautiful. Lovely location

Stayed here for one night while on the Wicklow Way. Unfortunately Yvonne wasn't there at the time but we were well looked after by Robert, her husband. He was so kind and picked us up from our stop and put the kettle on for us when we arrived.

The property is beautiful and so well kept. We were feeling lazy so ordered pizzas for delivery and ate outside in the sun looking out onto the mountains. What a view! The gardens are amazing.

Amazing location and would love to go back. Highly recommend for a convenient escape from the city.

There is a busstop in nearby village of enniskerry, which I assume has a service in the direction of Dublin. It is about 7 mins drive from the b&b, and I know the local taxi is used to collecting or dropping off for the bus. There is a good team service out of Dublin so the bus does not have to get you all the way in. Best ask the b&b how best to get to them.
