Stayed at the hotel for 5 nights recently for BB&EM, for a group of 5 of us. The rooms were nice somethings were a little dated but it was clean and comfortable. My daughters had a room which the heating was on full and it was sweltering but spoke with reception who sorted the problem as soon as they knew. Covid restrictions dont help things but maybe the hotel uses covid as an answer to some problems. The breakfasts were nice but some mornings we had to wait a while for tea/coffee and toast and the wait on evening meals could sometimes be a while and things forgotten. The food was very nice both in the restaurant and the bar and generous portions but be prepared to wait for drinks in the bar as they only time staff came round to ask us for a drink was at last orders. We did go upto the bar as we were fed up of waiting the staff weren't busy there was 4 of them behind the bar 2 were talking and 2 were sorting the till. If you don't want customers going to the till then staff need to be more attentive. There was a young chap who was serving in the restaurant on an evening (tall with glasses on) who was brilliant and very helpful. Don't fully get why you have to pay when checking in rather than checking out, was told this was to reduce queuing and crowds on check out but you get the ques on check in instead. I would say that a few more disabled parking spaces would be helpful as for the size of the hotel I dont think 4 is enough. Would also say if you're travelling without young children and want a little peace and quiet don't go to the restaurant early on an evening as the earlier times tend to be fuller with todlers/baby's. We had one evening where we went in early and couldn't even hear each other speak because of screaming children, even the staff looked.like they had enough..(this was not a fault of the hotel rather towards the parent who allowed her child to scream for a good amount of time). The hotel is nice the location is good it was comfortable and maybe a little more training to some staff would be an advantage.

We received a warm welcome and a room exceeding our expectations , with beautiful views across the Lough and plentiful, tasty meal options. My special request for a bath was honoured, with plentiful hot water , very much appreciated! Our package included breakfast and a four course dinner on one night. We were shown to our table with a splendid view and the restaurant staff were very accommodating and friendly, serving a delicious evening meal ( including a local fish/ roast of the day option ) with coffee or tea included. The wine list was good and the price very fair.
Also included was the option of using the gym, sauna and jacuzzi - you can book a slot and can also use the swimming pool if you have a swim cap ( also available at a low cost at the Reception , manned by a very helpful attendant ). The hotel was warm, clean and friendly , with carpeted corridors and we would return again with pleasure. There was no noise overnight at all and the beds were very comfortable with good quality linen. Our mini break came during a stressful period in our lives and our only regret was that we could not have stayed for longer.

Very warm welcome from reception staff who went over and beyond to meet our needs, very comfortable room which was clean and cozy and spacious, we had a great view looking over the golf course and sea, although there was a storm that evening it was a thrilling watch. Had dinner in the restraunt, food was tasty, good variety on the menu, good timing between courses and attention and service from waiting staff was excellent, breakfast was also served in restaurant with good selection of hot and cold buffet. Had drinks in the bar that evening, it was too stormy to venture anywhere else, there was no entertainment, some background music would have been nice, the young bar staff were very friendly and accommodating. After checkout we availed of the leisure facilities, again very clean, great facilities, friendly staff. All in all a great night away, relaxing and just what was needed post covid restrictions. Only downside was 11am check-out anything later would have incurred a charge.

The hotel is situated on outskirts of Buncrana and has a beautiful beach within walking distance. The hotel did observe covid restrictions well and we felt safe at all times. You need to book breakfast times and pool times with reception/leisure centre. Changing rooms and pool seemed spotless It is right beside golf course and is a great location to visit loads of other tourist attractions like Malin Head, Derry and loads of other beautiful beaches. My only reason for 3 star is the food. Breakfast was OK but menu was limited and cooked breakfast did not seem like good quality sausages bacon etc. We only ate from bar menu which was also limited and again just average. I would recommend the Harbour Inn for eating in the evening 👌

Dear Guest Thank you for your lovely comments mentioned in your review. We are delighted to read you felt safe at all times with our health and safety measures. We are glad you enjoyed your time spent in the pool and the many activities to do in the area. I apologise you found out menu to be limited for breakfast. We have not changed our offering during breakfast only how we actually serve it to you. Breakfast still consists of tea/coffee/toast/juices/selection of breads and croissants, cereal, fruit, cheese and yogurt. This is all now served to your table. Our Hot breakfast still consists of bacon, sausage, puddings, tomoto, has browns and selection of eggs and beans. Guests can approach the buffet to be served their hot breakfast. Our Barfood menu is also very extensive but I apologise you found it average. We hope to welcome you again in the very near future, Kind regards Joleene McDermott

Stayed here for one night with my family for Santa's Kingdom.
Can honestly say I was totally disappointed and will not be returning or recommending this hotel to anyone.
Our room was basic but clean. The bathroom however was seriously in need of updating and our view from the bedroom window consisted of a brick walWe had dinner included in price and again was disappointing. The first Christmas Dinner I have ever had without a roast potato or even a cocktail sausage. Not even a Christmas cracker on the table.
Santa's kingdom was poor to say the least. Mdf painted walls with very little to keep anyones attention. But the worst of all was 'Mrs claus' I can honestly say I have never heard a more irritating put on voice/laugh in my life, and she spoke so quickly that the adults couldn't follow her, never mind young children. People were sniggering everytime she spoke.
The whole place needs an overhaul and some money spent to bring it up with the modern day. I have visited many christmas/santa experiences over the years and this was one of the worst yet.
We were on the fourth floor of the hotel which was quite a walk from the reception and lift.
During the night I rang reception several times due to noise. There were families obviously away together, with a few rooms adjacent to us and the noise was terrible, doors slamming all night, children screaming, adults shouting. It was unbearable. I reported it around midnight and reception staff said they would send someone up, the noise stopped for about ten minutes and recommenced, I made another call after 1am as myself and children were all still unable to sleep, this time the staff member sighed and said they would check it out. They didn't. And the noise went on until 4.30am further calls I made to reception went unanswered.
To be fair, after a cold cooked breakfastthe next morning, the reception manager agreed to refund 80euro as she was well aware there had been complaints throughout the night from other guests. However no one was bothered to sort the issue out during the night which meant my family and I literally had no sleep all night.
Truly awful experience from start to finish. Not a 4 star hotel.

Dear Timeout176 Thank you for taking the time to post your review albeit a very harsh one in regards to our Christmas event, Santa's Kingdom. Mrs Claus has been acting this part with us since our first show opened 9 years ago and I would be confident in saying that your review of her performance would need to be taken very lightly. Santa's Kingdom is an amazing family show and is there to entertain the children, though the majority of adults who visit also enjoy the performance. Each and every year hundreds of families re-book early to secure their preferred dates so I would really have to insist that this review is picking fault where it does not exist. Mrs Claus is fabulous and a real asset to our shows, as we are told this repeatedly by other guests during the 5 weeks Santa's Kingdom runs for. We apologise for the noise you encountered during the night and this was your complaint to us the following morning. Our staff can only advise noisy guests to keep it down and giving that these other guests were also families with young children, you will have to allow some understanding. We can't make children stop crying and have to approach these situations with sympathy and understanding. I am sure other parents were aware of their children potentially disturbing other guests and I am pretty sure it was not intentional. We did offer you a discount on your stay for this noise disturbance and you gladly accepted it on the morning of your departure. Our Santa's Kingdom package is a fantastic value package that allows families to attend the shows all within the warm surroundings of the hotel, with everything put on for them from the kids pool to refreshments served after the show to the kids having access to the truly entertaining Jungle gym after the show so mums and dads can chill out. There is nothing we have not thought of to ensure a truly magical experience for the kids and parents, except perhaps a cocktail sausage. Kind regards Joleene McDermott Sales and Marketing Manager

We found the location and cleanliness of this hotel to be very good but found the service of the wait staff left a lot to be desired.
Understandably there may be some teething problems due to Covid but the staff should be able to serve you your morning breakfast without sticking their thumb in your porridge. Orange juice was literally poured all over the table and on to my gf's phone without any recognition or apology. Asked for toast and if there is no suitable location on the table they will literally dump it on the table piling it on whatever is there already.
Really need to up their game in this department as you get the sense they are feeding pigs rather than paying customers. Food quality is also very poor and I would not be in a hurry back again.

Dear Guest Thank you for your review of your recent stay with us, and for your kind comments on our location and cleanliness of our hotel. I apologise you found our staff to be hesitant to clear your table or even move your items on the table, they are avoiding touching your items unless really nessecary so placing your toast on a plate when there is no clear space on the table is only to avoid this. I also apologise juice spilled from glass onto your phone. We are very busy at the moment, whilst also trying to adhere to the many government guidelines that we are now working within. We have received so many wonderful comments on our food and staff since we reopened but I apologise you did not enjoy our food quality during your stay on this occasion. We do hope to welcome you back to us in the near future, Kind regards Joleene

My wife and I decided to stay for 3 nights recently. On arrival the times of the meals and locations were confirmed under Covid 19. The room was spotless and well appointed but tea/coffee was to be collected in the reception, no problem. Firstly let me say that the staff we great and very friendly. The food was great for the first two days but the quality was sadly lacking on the third night. My Wife could not get a restful sleep due to a fan running in a room next door which was running constantly. My wife finally went to reception at 5.30am Sunday morning to complain and was told it was a maintenance issue and it would be sorted straight away. We had food in the bar on our last night and we could clearly see the place was busier and staff under pressure. We both selected the burgers only to find cheap processed burgers inside..not the homemade...the deserts were practically thrown on the plate and not very appetising. We retired to our room to find the fan noise was still there. We packed away our gear, and tried to get some restful sleep. The fan noise finally stopped when people occupied the room next door. We left before 9am and forfeit our breakfast as we just wanted to leave. It was a great pity that the standard dropped just before we left but too little staff and too much for them to do...

We stayed in the Gateway for two nights as we had plans to explore Inisowen. The food in the bar was below par and the service for drinks wasn't good enough. A gin and tonic was served with three ice cubes, no fruit and in a small water glass. Pint of Heineken was flat. Staff were pleasant but needed a lot more training. Cocktails shouldn't have been served and were substandard. There was a limited supply of fans and the lack of aircon meant we had very little sleep. The rooms were clean and well looked after. I would ask for a 1st floor room on check in as our room looked out onto a fence. There was one fabulous lady/manager - AnnMarie. She couldn't help enough and equally was personable and had a refined service style that was second to none!

Payment upon check in wasn't a great welcoming either and should be thought over. At least at check out the receptionists can receive feedback on stay. In my opinion our stay was totally overpriced for serviced received- I wouldn't recommend this hotel to couples or friends

Dear Guest Thank you for your review. Marie will be delighted to read your lovely comments about her and our staff appreciate your comment on their friendliness. We apologise that service for drinks was not up to standard, there is a lot of pressure on our team to do everything quickly. Your comments leave us little to go by in order to address issues such as the food and cocktails as they are quite vague. The heatwave over the past few days had been unexpected and we apologise we could not get a fan to your room as they had all been requested. Our hotel does not have air conditioning in the bedrooms, only the public areas. In regards to payment on arrival we do ask this to avoid queues on check out, again another covid related impact to our normal service. In normal times this is not a requirement but as the formation of queues is to be avoided where possible, this is the only way we could prevent ones forming at reception each morning. It is impossible to provide normal service when so many regulations need to be met. All regulations are about keeping the number of people in one area limited and the flow of movement continuous. Payment on arrival avoids guests queing to check out and works well in this regard. We are disappointed to read that you would not return, most of our guests understand that normal service cannot resume as we did before Covid, until regulations ease. However we appreciate you taking the time to review us and hopefully in the future when normal service returns you might return, Kindest regards Joleene

Having stayed here before we had a lovely room, as did friends. The manageress added a four course meal upon check in, as having booked on booking.com it was just B&B. This was lovely, having told her we had not been back since we had had our wedding reception here, we really appreciated it. I had requested a nice room (via email), as we had previously been in the honeymoon suite and hadn’t been back for our complimentary 1st anniversary stay but this must not have been read. The room was so outdated, I was shocked! I had only ever seen the nice rooms before and during our wedding stay. The furniture was old chipped and has served it’s purpose by years! The bathroom had an odour of damp, this was pungent! The tiles etc. are old and need updated badly. I would say though the beds and bathroom were clean but having dropped something, I found someone else’s socks under the bedside table neither myself or husband own navy socks so an oversight by the cleaners! I feel bad for stating these faults as I cannot fault the staff, they were so friendly and accommodating. I did have a problem with dinner but the staff were so lovely. Covid regulations were in place but so well organised. The bar and restaurant staff are an asset to this hotel. I wouldn’t return for another visit unless I was guaranteed one of the nicer rooms that I know this hotel has and I wouldn’t want to be finding a pair of someone else’s socks again! Having said this we were given a complimentary 4 course meal so the value for money was excellent and I feel bad for complaining about the room due to this but if this had not been the case I wouldn’t have been happy at all. I would love to go back for another break but only if a better room was guaranteed. I didn’t mention anything when checking out as I felt bad having received the complimentary dinner, but I have to be honest.

Dear 452aineg Thank you for taking the time to submit your review about your recent stay with us. I am sorry for the oversight by our housekeepers but thank you for your kind comments on our staff and adherence to Covid regulations. We have been working hard on completing the renovations in our bedrooms which we started in 2018. We have replaced beds, curtains, carpets and soft furnishings in the majority of our bedrooms and before Covid hit us we had also started replacing the wood furniture in our rooms. Bathrooms have also been upgraded, though only a number have been completed. This work has taken place even during our 7 month closure, where possible, which I am sure you can appreciate has been a struggle. We have not yet completed every room but it is in our future plans. I am not sure if you are comparing your room on this visit to your room on your previous visit which would be our Bridal Suite and of course, very difficult to compare any standard room to this one as the size along is vastly different. We look forward to welcoming you back to us in the very near future, Kindest regards Joleene

First impressions were really good...reception staff pleasant, hotel in fantastic location. Got the superior room and it was lovely, enjoyed the view from the windows.

There was a Dolce Gusto machine but no pods for it neither were they in the hospitality pack, perhaps you’re supposed to bring your own. I agree with what a previous reviewer said re hospitality packs, the hotel responded that they’re sealed for guest reassurance but there are toiletries just sitting in the bathroom, why aren’t they sealed? It’s not a big issue for me but just seems a weird rule, if you’re going to leave toiletries out then may as well leave hospitality out too.

Obviously no room service allowed at present so unsure why you aren’t allowed to bring in your own food or drink to your room, most hotels allow it.

Breakfast wasn’t great to be honest, the bacon looked unappealing and the scrambled egg looked like a big lump of the stuff you get in egg custard tarts, a big shiny lump. The serving staff are generous with portions but I found the waiting staff to be very hit or miss. I appreciate the times they’re working under but we were served tea then had to chase for milk/sugar etc or for preserves for our toast. Other tables got these immediately so it’s clearly some staff who need reminded to have a bit of forward thinking. If I had to pay for breakfast separately I definitely wouldn’t bother.

We had one evening meal in the hotel and again it was quite hit and miss. The starter and main were fine but the cheesecake dessert was weird, the topping was like a mousse so I assume it hadn’t set properly.

We were seated inside by the window, there is a conservatory attached that looks out to the golf course and laugh (beautiful view) Unfortunately from my seat I could see the corners of the white conservatory windows hadn’t been cleaned in some time as there were clusters of dead daddy long legs in various stages of decomposition that was very off putting whilst eating. I’m not talking one or two either.

In summary the bed was massive and so comfortable, the view and location were spot on, we had a relaxing break so I would stay again...but give the restaurant a miss.
