We were at the County Arms Hotel for the wedding of our daughter and son in law.

A group of about 18 stayed for 2 nights while the remainder of wedding group, about 25 in total stayed the night of the wedding. We had 38 to the reception and we were all very well catered for and looked after by the staff and owners of the County Arm Hotel.

The safety measure put in place by the hotel were top notch for both guests and staff and we appreciate all their efforts in this regard.

As for the rooms, everyone was incredibly positive about their rooms and comfort. The only note was that the plumbing on our room could have been better, toilet flush was weak and shower pressure was also weak.

The staff were fantastic, helpful in every way possible.

The food was first class with every meal we had, breakfast, lunch, and evening meals.

As for the reception and the food arrangements, these too were first class. The table staff were attentive to all our needs. Even one of the owners, who was serving tables, opened the ketchup for my 7-year-old nephew, so he did not spill any on his suit. All the wedding guests were impressed by the calibre of staff at the County Arms.

The portions for every meal and every course were perfect, everyone had sufficient food on their plate. Many made the point that portion sizes were very generous.

My wife and I were very please with the service and value provided by the Country Arm Hotel, and would whole heartedly recommend the hotel, its facilities, and staff to all no matter what the occasion.

We would also like to give a special shout out to Michelle who worked tirelessly over the weeks and months prior to the wedding, keeping us informed of Government COVID changes that affected the wedding plans. Michell and her staff were amazing.

Thank you to all concerned, you made our daughter’s wedding day special, despite this time of pandemic.

6 of us stayed in the County Arms Hotel, Birr on the 2nd and 3rd October 2020 and it was wonderful. This is a family run hotel-by the Loughnane Family-and it is shown wonderfully. On arrival, we met a pedal operated hand sanitizer andthe check in was wonderfully smooth. Our room was comfortable, clean and lovely decorated with eye catching paintings on the walls. Our first night was spent dining in the bar where there was ample distancing, excellent food and the world's best Toasted sandwich, that I have ever tasted. Our second night was spent dining in the drawing room and I had the most appetising main course of turkey and ham. Our 2 breakfasts were excellent, with table service for every delightful item on the menu. The real highlight of our visit to this wonderful hotel are the Loughnane Family and their exceptional staff. I would sincerely like to thank Willie, Barry and Conor Loughnane, Gráinne (Reservations and Events Manager), Judy, Tanya, Michelle and one other (Receptionists), Jason (Executive Head Chef), Alan (Accommodation Manager), Larry and Chloe(Bar), Sasha, Seamie, Jane, Róisín and Antonio (Dining room) for a wonderful weekend, in a very difficult time, due to the Covid 19 pandemic. Besides the amazing hospitality, I felt very safe due to their safety precautions and how the guests adhered to face coverings, as they walked in the public areas of the hotel. There's a lovely garden too and how different types of bird fed themselves on the fallen apples, was a joy to watch on how nature is catered for too. There is a rooftop area too with tables over looking the kaleidoscope of colours in the garden. Mile Buíochas Willie agus Muintir Loughnane agus Foireann Óstán County Arms.

A couple, (20s) stayed for 3 nights, had breakfast a meal and drinks.
Very nice hotel, bed and pillows aren’t comfortable, shower takes a while to heat up. Rooms are nice and clean, TV has Netflix & Prime you can sign into and use, TV it’s self was very fuzzy. Lovely complimentary soaps & shampoos.
The food and the bar and waiting staff were amazing, live music on the Saturday night was really good, the bar had a lovely atmosphere! The pool is lovely and has a sauna, steam room & jacuzzi. Changing rooms are very clean and have 2 hairdryers.
I’m only giving two stars and the reason being on the 2nd day we were getting ready to go visit the local castle and a knock on the door came, a lady stated they were house keeping, as we were in the middle of getting ready my partner just said that we were ok thanks, the lady then said ‘you can’t be smoking in there’ sorry what?? My partner opened the door and two of ladies were at the door, my partner said no one is smoking in here you can come in, the lady looked into the room (could clearly see and smell there was no smoke in the room of any sort) she then said reception had called up and asked her to tell us not to be smoking in the room?? I don’t know where it came from I had originally assumed maybe someone on our floor was smoking and they were just knocking on all doors but they only knocked on ours and I couldn’t smell smoke anywhere in the hotel?
Straight after that we were ready and I went to reception and explained we would be out for the day and they’re more then welcome to go check our room to ensure that we were not smoking in the room, the lady at reception just said ok no problem.
Bit of a weird accusation to pull from the sky and not even give an explanation as to why? We are respectful people, we hotel stay a lot and haven’t experienced this, just thought it was a bit mad?? Probably wouldn’t return.

Myself and my husband stayed here and overall we really enjoyed our stay breakfast was absolutely delicious and our dinner was even nicer. The staff are so very friendly, thank you to our waitress i believe her name was Chloe who went above and beyond for us, checked up on us every so often to see if we needed anything when no other staff had bothered to make the effort, and also the lovely gentleman antoni who was so friendly and very welcoming throughout our 2 day stay he was always up for the laugh and chat and made us feel extremely welcomed. Hotel was brilliant for following regulations all staff had masks and continuously used hand sanitizer. Our room was okay there was a smell of dampness and the shower wasn’t the cleanest. 10 minute walk from the town and gorgeous castle too!
We definitely will be back and really enjoyed our stay. We hope all staff stay safe and healthy

What an enjoyable evening myself and family had in the county arms hotel!
The service was absolutely amazing and special compliments to the chef for his gorgeous food. I would recommend the apple crumble also 😍
A warm word of thanks to the girl named Chloe who served us for the evening, I had asked another member of staff what her name was because she was gone before I could thank her personally, she made sure we had everything we needed, my son has additional needs and my mother had dementia and sometimes going out for dinner it can be a struggle because not every restaurant you go to will understand that but she did everything she could to help especially when my son was feeling overwhelmed she could calm him down before I could which was extremely heart warming!! It’s great to see young people understanding kids with autism and elderly women with dementia
And I cannot just talk about one member of staff but the service was absolutely amazing we couldn’t have asked for better service from all of them but the young boy behind the bar was very mannerly and helpful i believe I heard him being called Ben who let me tell you makes an amazing ginsecco!! Drinks were coming out very fast which was great and food took time but that wasn’t an issue because good food takes time.
There was a lovely relaxing atmosphere and the hotel itself was gorgeous especially the decor in the bar.
The hotel is very covid friendly, we showed our certs at reception and asked for our name and number then took it again in the bar, sanitiser was at the door and everyone had masks on. Staff were very fast at sanitising tables also. Again massive compliments to the chef !!
We live a half hour away from birr but it’s very tempting to book a night in to stay there my mum and son really enjoyed themselves.

We had a two nights stay in this lovely hotel in November this year. All staff from reception, to bar staff, gym, cleaners and breakfast staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much to ask. There was also new staff in training and all of them were very friendly; and if they weren't sure about something they found out and got back to you immediately. The hotel is beautifully presesented with relaxing and clean areas to sit and read or have a cup of tea with some cakes. The room itself was very clean and spacious. Ours looked out to the garden which was lovely. The food was good and plentyful. We used the gym and swimming pool. Both were very clean and well looked after. The gym machines are in a very good condition and plenty to chose from. The pool had luke warm water which was perfect as I don't like cold water but you don't want it too warm either when you do your laps. They have a lovely jacuzzi with very warm water and a sauna also. We used all areas every day and really enjoyed it. Towels are provided once you enter the pool and gym area. Swimming caps are mandatory. If you don't have your own you can buy them there for €2.50 and keep them. I would have loved to stay another couple of days. I cant fault this Hotel in anything and would happily recommend it. Looking forward to come back again

We went to the County Arms for a night away to try and support local. We got to the hotel and we’re welcomed with open arms by the two lovely girlies (I didn’t catch their names) on reception. Once we got to our room we had a slight issue and the girls sorted it for us and we were happy with our new room and how the girls handled it for us, as I felt bad enough coming to them with the issue. We had dinner in the restaurant that night, again great experience lovely staff Antonio is a credit to the restaurant and is clearly happy to be back serving his guests. The food was fine, can’t complain only it was a little pricey but with the pandemic we did expect that. The tv in our room has a HDMI so we were able to plug in our one that we bring to all the hotels we go to just incase! I think if the rooms had a smart tv it would be great. Breakfast was were our stay deteriorated, like quite drastically. We got to our table at 10:30 ( the slot we were given due to spacing out guests under covid guidelines. We sat down and There was no cutlery and no cups on our table and we were waiting for at least 15 minutes for someone to come take our order. This means we are now at around 10:45. The food came out about 10/15 mins later. At 11, at this point I went up to get some orange juice for our breakfast and the woman with glasses who got the juice for me sighed and told me I was “leaving it very late wasn’t I?!!” I was absolutely gobsmacked as i assumed staff would be aware that were not choosing these times for breakfast for the fun of it. I am still disgusted at how she spoke to me, so unprofessional. I got avocado and toast and other half got pancakes with syrup (no syrup provided and no toast for my avocado) when I asked for toast it seems as though they forgot about me as they were too busy trying to clean up and push all guests out. It was ridiculous behaviour. Staff at breakfast need big training and they let down the other staff who were polite and happy to have us staying. I would give a 0/10 on breakfast staff alone but Antonio and the girls in reception deserve 10/10. Unfortunately we will not be returning.

Had the pleasure of staying at the hotel last week and was very impressed with the standard of cleanliness and service We were able to meet family who lived locally in the bar which had a great selection of wines and good food. The staff were amazing and nothing was too much trouble with delicious breakfast especially the porridge and full Irish. Great location a short walk in to Birr to visit the castle and for shopping. Will definitely be be back.

Brutal service ran by untrained youths. Brought to our table. Order taken for food and drinks, dinners served with no cutlery left sitting for a few minutes looking at the dinners waiting for the cutlery. Had to get up and ask for our drinks. When finished asked for dessert menus girl completely forgot about us had to ask again. Cappuccino came down cold and tea served with no milk. Asked 3 different waiters for milk had to go to the bar and ask for milk (barman got it straight away)
