Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

A night in the Brown Hen proved hands down the best accommodation we’ve experienced so far between both Kerry and Cork. Gwen is a very welcoming host and goes to every length to ensure her guests are happy. The decor of the room makes for a very enjoyable and cosy stay. A 10/10 experience and we would certainly love to be back!!

Have just stayed here for a week, our second visit after discovering it in Spring of this year for a shorter stay. . Highest standard that we have ever experienced. Preparation for our visit included spotlessly clean beautifully decorated accommodation with toiletries , continental breakfast , crisp clean bed linen. Wide range of facilities including, fridges, toasters, microwave, crockery and cutlery to prepare picnics and light meals . Ample hot water in the two en-suites, safe onsite parking and easy access for anybody with restricted mobility . Set in a tranquil location with panoramic views . 5 mins drive to local town Bandon . 10mins drive to beach, 20 mins to the picturesque town of Kinsale, 30 mins to Cork city to the east or Clonakilty on the west and 60 mins drive to the ferry terminal to the islands Sherkin and Cape-clear. Host Gwyneth exceptionally welcoming .

I stayed at the Brown Hen with my wife the Rev Caroline Burns on Church business in the month of June. Because of a double booking we needed three days and three nights accomodstion and this accomodation was a little piece of Heaven.
The bathroom and shower was great because of my disabilities/heart condition and the bedding was like 5+++ star. I have never slept in such a lovely comfortable bedroom.
All of our food for breakfast was in over abundance with cereals, jams, eggs, breads for toast and even home baked cake and breads supplied by Gwyneth and her lovely daughter. Alongside that we had cheeses meets etc., with the fridge well stocked checked and supplied each morning.
Gwyneth was such a lovely person 💕 always in attendance checking if anything extra was needed and leaving little breads or cakes during the day when we were out to enjoy later.
I labelled the title "I'm in Heaven" and as a Minister I felt just like that in the accomodation and treatment/service we received.
I thoroughly recommend the Brown Hen as a place to seek out either lovely views and also a home away from home splendidly located away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Thankyou Gwyneth for hosting us and making us feel really special like family. You just can't put into words the totally delightful.experience of the Brown Hen Accomodation, the wonderful Gwynth and her family
Other than to encourage you to visit whether on business , holiday or family stay. Once visited you will always be returning.

Together with my husband son and daughter in law I visited The Brown Hen last week and cannot fault anything with our stay. Gwyneth was so helpful and looked after us all very well. The rooms were spotless, the breakfast excellent, offering a wide choice of food and the views and peaceful surrounding were picturesque. We will return when next in the area. Thank you Gwyneth

Where do I start! Gwyneth, our host was a treasure - so accommodating, kind and smiley. We had a nice chat in the main house before we left and met the most gorgeous sausage dog, Pepper 😄
The room was comfy and very well equipped with anything you might need during your stay - from hand lotions to ear buds, plugs to couple card games. Every cupboard hid something. The kitchenette had EVERYTHING, all smartly tucked away.
Now the bed... it was one of the most comfortable beds I've ever stayed in, and I've stayed in many hotels (plus I'm a terribly picky, awkward sleeper). The breakfast was delicious and fresh, brought right up to your door.
It's been one of the most relaxing stays for us, with lots of nature and good people around.

We had a lovely relaxing stay in this B&B recently and I have to say it was a fab experience. The accommodation was perfect situated a little away from main house. The lady (Gwenth) was more than helpful, and delivered breakfast of choice each morning. She offered plenty of local advise, recommending places to go and see. Unfortunately the weather wasn't great but our room was a lovely relaxing space with beautiful views. Own transport a bonus as its a rural location, but there is a local taxi service. Highly recommend this B&B.

We stayed in The Brown Hen Lodge B&B in August 2022. .Gwyneth the host was amazing, the food , location , decor you would do well to find in a 5 star hotel. This place is heaven on earth , the little touches of fresh coffee beans and homemade chocolate brownies on arrival superb. This is a working farm , the host family simply beautiful. 3 weeks travelling around Ireland this was the highlight, several hotels came close but this was our standout. Great advice about restaurants too which were excellent. We'll stay here again and again...thank you Gwyneth Mervyn and family.

The Brown Hen was an excellent find when searching for B&B's in Ireland. It is out in the Country, but a good point for taking day trips to Cork, Cobh and Kinsale. Gwyneth is an exceptional hostess and the Irish Breakfast was delicious. She has 2 well appointed rooms that are in a separate building next to the house, so very private. The amenities she provides are excellent. Refrigerator in the room with water and fresh milk. Coffee, tea, snacks, etc.

We were traveling with another couple so we had both rooms. One is slightly larger, but each are equally comfortable. Loved the scenery and the quietness of being on a "farm". Beautiful country.

There is also a delicious restaurant called Poachers not too far from the B&B where they were gracious enough to serve us at 8:30pm when they closed at 9pm.

You will enjoy your stay and Gwyneth is a perfect hostess. Will will be back again.

Really lovely rooms in the lodge, immaculately clean, and super comfy beds but the nicest part was the very warm welcome by the owners. I’m stopping off for work but this is perfect for a wee weekend getaway
