Thank you Mary and James for a wonderful stay. The 19th Lodge was a charming guesthouse with very comfortable, inviting and clean rooms, friendly and helpful hosts, and delicious, home-cooked breakfast. The location was perfect on a quiet road across from Ballybunion Golf Club and a few minutes from the town of Ballybunion. We stayed in hotels during our 9-day trip to Southwest Ireland and our night at the 19th Lodge was the perfect final night of our trip - we felt so at home. We would absolutely go back to the 19th Lodge.

This B&B is perfectly situated directly across from both Ballybunion GOLF
Golf courses. It's owned and very personnally operated by a wonderful, accommodating couple. The life is very tastefully appointed, with comfortably firm beds, grand views of the famous courses from every windows, and an attentive touch by the proprietors, who picked me up upon my arrival in town, gave me lifts into town and back, and dropped me at my departure point after check out. The breakfasts were made to order and the rooms were attended to daily.

Mary and James have learned a lot in 30+ years operating their B&B, and I am so glad to have been a beneficiary of their attentive service.

If I return to challenge the Ballybunion courses again, I will be staying at the 19th Lodge. They added to a wonderful, memorable experience.

The 19th Lodge is an extraordinary accommodation run by a warm and welcoming couple, James and Mary. I have stayed in many B&Bs, and I consider this among my top two worldwide. The location next to Ballybunion Golf Club is perfect. My large and well appointed room overlooked the golf course, but all of the rooms are of such high quality.

James and and Mary built the lodge in 1986, and it has been maintained at the highest levels.

James and Mary are warm, gracious and very attentive to guests. The experience is almost like visiting with believed family members!

Breakfast would match the finest restaurants in both the offerings and the quality of the food, as well as in Its presentation at the table.

Need laundry done? Just ask Mary. A lady picks up the dirty laundry in the morning and returns it carefully folded in the evening, all at a reasonable price.

Need a restaurant reservation? Mary knows them all and cheerfully makes them for you. She will also arrange a taxi if you prefer not to drive so you can enjoy a pint at dinner!

A friend and I stayed at the Lodge for seven days to play golf in the area, so we had the opportunity to experience their genuine hospitality and to observe that it was shared with each and every guest.

The 19th Lodge is for discerning travelers who want only the best accommodations and high quality service at a reasonable price. I give it my highest, unequivocal recommendation. Once there you will actually be sad to have to depart!

Thank you James and “Miss” Mary!

Thank you Mary and James. After a long day of travel I was relieved to come to 19th Lodge. Mary was so welcoming and got my details while rushing to clean the room. I was in very early. This is truly like staying in their home. I am usually a high end hotel/resort traveler but this is different. Nothing fancy but impeccably clean and comfortable. Don’t need to lock your door kind of small place. The shower pressure is great and hot water aplenty. I took a nice bath in the tub after 36 holes. The food is delicious and James makes sure to take care of you, whatever is needed. This felt like staying at a great auntie’s home. Definitely stay here if you are playing golf next door. Only thing to know is that the town is over a mile walk. I drove into town for the day. Otherwise I ate/drank at the golf clubhouse and Strollers next door for a nicer dinner. No wonder they have repeat customers from years and even decades.

Within walking distance to Ballybunion GC, The 19th Lodge is an exceptional place to stay if you are playing Ballybunion or just visiting the area. Your hosts Mary and James will offer excellent suggestions on local dining and activities in the area. The rooms are finely appointed, many with spectacular views of the Ballybunion Cashen Course just across the road. An early, freshly cooked breakfast is available in the Breakfast Room so you won’t be late for your morning tee time.

I believe the Irish people are the kindest on earth and Jim & Mary certainly fit the bill as we say here in the States. Warm and welcoming even with our late arrival. Made to order Irish breakfasts each morning that come with a serving of Jim’s positivity and upbeat energy. I felt like they were long lost relatives that invited me to stay in their big beautiful home which gave me an added level of comfort while traveling in a foreign country. If you are playing golf at or near the sensational Ballybunion you owe it to yourself to stay with Jim and Mary at the The 19th Lodge!

My family and I had an absolutely wonderful stay with James and Mary at the 19th Lodge. We were home in Ireland to celebrate our sons 21st who wanted to play golf at Ballybunion. Not only did we get a very friendly welcome, they also were extremely accommodating when we arrived with two extra teen kids with us. Mary worked out extra beds straight away ( with the help of James) and made us feel very comfortable. My husband and I stayed in the very spacious Tom Watson suite, which hosted a huge room along with a huge bed, couch, armchairs and everything else anyone could have needed including a huge en-suite. Mary offered to make dinner reservations for us later that night which was great as more of our family arrived with more kids. The kids room was also huge with plenty of space for them all, they loved it there. James made breakfast very early for the golfers the next morning and was ready and waiting for the rest of us when we awoke. Big breakfast menu with an array of cold and hot choices. I would recommend the 19th lodge to anybody, it is decorated and furnished to the highest of standards and we will definitely stay there again

What a great surprise to arrive to this wonderful guesthouse and welcomed by Mary who I knew would be as warm and lovely in person as she was when booking over the phone. There were 7 of us, staying on business over the weekend and Mary and James made us feel so welcome, we felt as if we were on holidays .. when we arrived in the evening of our first night, we were looking for somewhere to eat and Mary instantly said she would called around the restaurants and got us booked into a place in the town as it was very busy around .. nothing was too much trouble..

The rooms were second to none, very spacious with seriously comfortable beds, a beautiful bathroom and everything perfectly clean and laid out. So relaxing after working all day.

There is a beautiful perfectly laid out breakfast room with views of the golf course, again beautifully laid out, bright and relaxing. But the best thing is the breakfast menu, with all you could ask for .. you will not have to worry about eating for a while after Mary's home cooked full breakfast .. you wouldn't find better in a 5 star hotel .. it is that amazing 😍

It's so obvious when you stay at the 19th Lodge that Mary and James have put there heart and sole into every part of their guesthouse and making everyone who is lucky enough to stay with them feel as good as we did after experiencing their truly warm and inviting hospitality.

Thank you both for making our weekend way more then just a business trip.

I've stayed at The 19th Lodge every time I've traveled to Ballybunion (9 times) and have never been disappointed. Mary and James are excellent hosts. They are the friendliest people you will ever meet and their guest house reflects their personalities. Everything is clean, comfortable, and with the right amount of luxury. Beds, showers, everything is the way you want it to be. Breakfast is also very nice. It's not a 5 star restaurant, but it certainly gets your day started in the right way with a choice of familiar menu of breakfast options, and also serve-yourself fruit, breads, and cereal. The location is perfect for visiting golfers, opposite the first fairway of Ballybunion Golf Club's Cashen Course, and a 300 yard drive/walk to the clubhouse. I always look forward to my stay at The 19th Lodge.

Great place to stay when playing Ballybunion! It’s practically on the property.
Hosts Mary and Jim couldn’t do more to accommodate all of our needs.
Rooms are spacious and comfortable and the large sitting area is great for all 12 of us to hang out.
Full Irish breakfast in the morning set us up for a great day of golf in some horrid conditions. The caddy said that most large groups like ours come in on buses and leave for accommodations elsewhere. It would be mistake to pass by the 19th Lodge and the chance to enjoy Jim and Mary’s hospitality.

Hi I think Jonathan and Dave above answered this questions well. I LOVED the hospitality here and would say the kids would be treated excellently. The golf course is a short walk and the beach just on the other side. The town is small but I don't think so much of a walk. Mary or James would probably give you some great thoughts. Good luck!
