The Cliff House Hotels deserves nothing less than a 5 star rating. The hospitality, kindness and generosity was nothing like anything we had ever experienced before . Last week myself and 6 friends went to the cliff house hotel for dinner and drinks. Following a brief conversation with the owner Fiona outside the front entrance of the hotel she refused to allow us to sleep in our camper van which was parked close by the hotel. Storm Ellen was about to hit and although we reassured her we would be completely safe she explained how she simply could not have it on her conscience to see a group of us stay overnight in a storm in a camper van. Therefore free of charge she provided us with 4 rooms in which we all slept extremely comfortably. It was an act of kindness none of us had ever experienced before. Her generosity and kind nature was astonishing. Additionally the food and table service was second to none and each and every staff member was incredibly welcoming. We all could not recommend the Cliff House Hotel enough and we would encourage anyone in the area to come here for top quality food served by top quality staff.
10/10- We’ll be back!!!

I found this to be a nice smaller place in Ballybunion with a lovely view of the cliffs and the ocean. Check-in and out was easy and the people were very friendly and helpful.

The bedroom was not large and featured two twin beds connected together to form a king size bed – but they were made up separately and I found that to be awkward. They also weren't very comfortable and my husbands feet hung off the end of the short bed. The bathroom was nice but it only had a shower (I like to soak in a tub), but the water pressure was great so it worked out well.

The bar was excellent and they had a nice looking breakfast bar but they had limited choices but also hot breakfast was available. I ordered chicken for dinner and it was excellent.

We stayed at the Cliff House Ardmore for a weekend trip about 5 weeks ago. The location is lovely and the beach is very close. The Cliff walk is also scenic. Reception staff were friendly and polite, and service generally was efficient and pleasant. Our room was comfortable but the paintwork was tired, with scuff marks in places and the carpet was unravelling around some edges. We were surprised by this. For those who enjoy a daily shower, we also felt that one sachet of shower gel for two people was very frugal for a five star hotel, and did not lend itself to a sense of being pampered. The food (breakfast and dinner over two days) was very good, although it was a pity that we did not have the experience of being served in a restaurant setting as opposed to a bar / lounge.

We declined desserts on our second night and asked for tea instead, which was served promptly. However, when we settled our account before our departure, we were disappointed to note that we were charged heftily for a very small additional serving of vegetables on our first night and for choosing to have tea after dinner on our second night, instead of dessert. On balance, we considered that the Cliff House is overrated by some, and in our view, did not provide value for money or the sense of luxurious indulgence which we had expected (roughly €1,500 for two nights of B&B with two dinners).

The location of the hotel in Ardmore is by far its best asset, and were we to return to the area (which is charming), we would stay elsewhere and sample the menu in White Horses, a restaurant in Ardmore village which receives rave reviews and which was buzzing with patrons each and every time we passed by.

We visited The Cliff House for dinner recently. We had the 6pm sitting which was to last until 19.45pm. When we arrived the table cloth was splattered with what looked like red wine, as was some of the glasses/plates and cutlery. When I said it to the waitress she did not reply. I had to ask her to take away the items splattered with red wine and she did so in silence. We asked for our kids meal to come with the starters, we had to wait 20mins for one kids meal and when it came the order was wrong and had to be altered. We had to ask for water 4 times!!!!!! Because they had taken away glasses splattered in red wine they left us with 4 less glasses which also had to be asked for. We only got to order dessert at 19.30pm and by then everyone on the floor was starting to panic as they wanted to get ready for the 8pm sitting.

We ordered chocolate ice cream for the kids, this again had to be asked for 3 times and when it came it was vanilla. At this point I was really annoyed. The manager was clearly checked out on the evening, he floated around not taking any notice unless approached. The waiters/waitresses were quiet young and some had terrible attitudes if u asked for something. There was an obvious air of low morale and pressure. The food was superb and probably one of the nicest meals that I have eaten but the service was absolutely shocking. I hope that this message can help to make some changes!!

The only proper way to write a review for The Cliff House Hotel is at the entrance. You will walk into a comfortable feeling, you will meet Maggie or Rachel at reception and your dream begins. The ladies will greet you and tell you what you need to know, give you your keys and away you go to comfort.
Beautiful bedrooms with what is necessary, bed of course, tea &coffee facility and the en suite.
Unlike most showers, it is like standing under Niagara Falls, there will be no conditioner left in your hair.
As you wander back down the stairs, you notice the subtle touches in decor & trimmings of somebody who cares about customers and business. We arrived in COVID times and the care taken by the staff would only make you feel safe.
The food for breakfast and evening meals were 1st class, only to be bettered by the young ladies and young men who served us our meals and drinks.
But what pushes this hotel to top all others is the flexibility of the staff. We were golfing at 7am (daft I know) we asked for early breakfast, most hotels say “ sorry dining room doesn’t open until 7.30. Cliff House, will 6 AM be good? We were met with bright friendly faces at 6. They were great, alas I cannot say the same about the golf I played.
So those of you who are lucky enough to meet Fiona, the “Queen of the this realm”, tell her PJ Holden says thank you, a Lady.

Had a nice dinner here after a day at the beach. Staff were extremely friendly and managed to squeeze us in without a booking.

Food was better than average pub food and price was slightly higher too to match.

We had a great table for our family of 5. Spacious and comfortable with all COVID regulations taking care of.

Service was great also. Lovely pictures around the hotel of the good old days, however hotel seems to be doing everything it can to maintain high standards.

I had completed some research on Ballybunion and the local hotels in June before we travelled. Based on the location and reviews we had read we were confident the cliff house would be what we were looking for. We were wrong. The reviews do not reflect a lot of the reality.
The positives: staff are friendly and helpful, food is good, cleaning of room was good.
The not so positive: the hotel is very dated, there is no lift, parking is a nightmare. We arrived on a Monday and were told that there was no food being served after 5 which was surprising. Our room had velux windows and for the duration of our stay we did not have one good nights sleep. The noise from the street, cars and tractors harvesting silage etc kept us awake until the early hours every night. The room had no air con and was always cold at night.
Overall we didn't enjoy our hotel stay and wouldn't return. The beach in Ballybunion is the main draw for tourism down there and it is fab. The town itself is like stepping back in time which may not be for everybody.

If you're visiting or playing golf at Ballybunion, do not miss the opportunity to stay at The Cliff House! This family run hotel and restaurant will instantly make you feel like part of their family.

To start, the hotel is very affordable. The rooms are generous and well-appointed with very comfortable beds and outstanding shower water pressure!! The staff was quick to help and never seem to be looking for tips (although we gave generously due to their exceptional service throughout our stay). The restaurant served excellent food, and at night, the owner, Kevin, was great at helping select a perfect wine pairing. Breakfast, included with your stay, was excellent and offered a variety of eggs, meats, oatmeal and other fare along with French-Pressed coffee and tea.

The bar offers a number of places to sit, a well-stocked top shelf and plenty of mixers. Good, but not overpowering music is on at all times, making your time in the bar area relaxing and enjoyable to have conversations and recount your daily adventure. If the weather is nice enough, there are tables and chairs outside the front of the hotel, offering a view of the cliffs and beach across the street and the locals coming and going about their day.

Speaking of the cliffs, the hotel is located just a short walk from both the cliff walk (across the street), the beach below and the downtown area where live music and plenty of food and drink can be found.

This hotel and staff were so wonderful that I was sad to leave them. It felt like saying goodbye to family and dear friends when our visit came to an end. I can't recommend the Cliff House highly enough and hope you have the opportunity to experience it yourself. Thanks to Kevin, his wife and their wonderful staff for making a lasting memory of my time in Ireland.

Stayed here for two nights with good friends with the primary objective to play golf at the nearby Ballybunnion golf course. The hotel is located in the northern part of Ballybunnion within walking distance from most things the village has to offer. Easy to find a free parking spot and welcoming reception & fast check-in. The rooms are ok, but nothing special and WiFi did not work in our room. The breakfast buffet is really good and we also had dinner twice, where the service staff was friendly but quite inexperienced.

Not my first time staying here but had to finally write a review as each visit just gets better. Once you enter the door and get to reception you are greeted by a happy smiling Maggie who will sort anything that you need immediately. Rooms are immaculate. Always very clean and tidy. Showers are the best ever. So powerful. The bar has lovely decor. Restaurant has fantastic views of the beach.. I am coeliac and hotel has plenty of options in this regard. One of the staff will always advise on what food is gluten free. Whether breakfast or the usual tasty dinner on offer you are well looked after. Food is excellent. Then you have the great youthful bar and restaurant staff. Nothing is a problem to them. Always helpful with any questions and so welcoming. This hotel has excellent staff all throughout from cleaners to reception and waiting staff. Chefs to owners.
A really homely feel to it. A home away from home really.

How is parking? Will be there beginning of July. Thank you

There is parking outside the hotel. It is limited due to the fact that some non-residents park there for easy access to the beach, but it should be fine as there is usually space.
