We chose to stay in the Majestic Hotel as on its website it is described as a 4* hotel in a beautiful location. Having stayed for 2 nights, I would describe it as a regular 3* hotel. The location is excellent. Most 4* hotels provide complimentary water in the bedrooms, and slippers and bathrobes and high quality toiletries. We reserved a sea view room and were pleased to get a nice sized room with beautiful views. The room was clean albeit basic. The beds were comfortable. The receptionist on check-in was very pleasant and I checked we were booked for dinner in the 'Restaurant'. As it was my husband's birthday, I was hoping to treat him to an 'A La Carte' dinner, instead dinner was a limited menu. Incidentally this was the same food as that being served to a 'coach party' of guests, who were also staying at the hotel. When I telephoned and reserved dinner (at lease 5 or 6 days prior to arrival), I was not informed that it was a limited menu (no steaks). The bar/lounge area was very nice and the staff were very pleasant. However, a little bit of training wouldn't go amiss. Breakfast was very good and plenty of a variety available. On our second night, a coach load of school children (teenagers) arrived at the hotel. They proceed to run a mock on the corridor from early evening to circa 11.00pm banging doors, screeching etc. On two occasions I opened my room door to make them aware there were other guests in the hotel. One of the boys actually apologized but others didn't. I mentioned this to the receptionist on departure and was given the rather off-hand comment 'sure we were children ourselves one time'. This is not a response I would expect from a 4* hotel member.

Response from Majestic Hotel, General Manager at Majestic Hotel
Responded 17 Oct 2023
Hi @williamg134, I appreciate you taking the time to write the review, however, I am a bit taken a back by some of your comments. We have worked very hard, and continue to do so, here in The Majestic Hotel to make sure that we provide our guests with a really enjoyable four star stay. Just to reassure other guests, we do provide complimentary water and high quality toiletries in every room. We can also provide slippers and bathrobes on request. This is all stated in your guest directory. All of our bedrooms are furnished to high standards and fitted with luxury items. With regards to our food options, we have a set Table D'Hote menu in our restaurant with many options to choose from on each course. We also have an extensive and varied menu in our Lounge bar with steak and many other options on the menu. Yes, we do also take tour groups to stay in the hotel and they are a very valued part of our business. Unfortunately, we cannot account or decipher for other guests behaviour. However, if you had made us aware at the time, our night team could have solved this issue for you. We do apologise that you were disturbed on the second night by people on the corridors and I do apologise for the response you received about this on check out - this should have been handled more professionally. We are glad you enjoyed many other aspects of the hotel and I do hope that your husband enjoyed his birthday. If you do happen to stay with us again, I do hope all aspects will be more enjoyable for you and you can experience all of the 'pros' of staying with us at The Majestic Hotel. Kind regards, Laura

My husband and I stayed in The lovely Majestic Hotel for only one night recently. It was totally last minute so we were very lucky to get a room. We had a really lovely room spotlessly clean with a balcony and a great view of Tramore beach. The staff and manager were so welcoming and we had some great food in the bar. Breakfast was fab with a great selection of everything! My husband unfortunately left his wallet in the safe in our hotel room. But we needn't have worried!! A special thank you to Laura for sending it to our home via registered post within a couple of days! We'll certainly be back to The Majestic in the future. Many thanks Carol

Stayed here for four nights and the hotel was amazing. A lovely arrival with Raquel on Reception, explained everything and so welcoming and friendly. The room was spotless and a view of the sea was a bonus. Breakfast was well presented, friendly staff who had your coffee and tea order to you quickly. A great way to start the day a full Irish breakfast. The hotel was great, location, parking everything worked out. Many thanks and will be back.

Hi @garryo353, Thank you for sharing your good experience about your stay with us. We are delighted that you enjoyed the hotel. With regards to the music, our live musicians that we get in to plat are fantastic and are very entertaining 'lounge bar' live music. However, our apologies about this night. Also, we do have different musicians each night, so the music does vary. We hope to welcome you back again another time. All the best, Laura

Stayed here while doing 3 day painting workshop in Dunmore East. On arrival staff were friendly and helpful, when I went to my room I found it was overlooking the extractor fans which were noisy! I rang reception and was changed to a room at the front looking out to sea. It was small but as I was on my own it was perfect. The room was spotlessly clean, the ensure was small but had everything I needed, with a strong shower! The food was lovely, 1st morning I asked for a well cooked egg, and got it no hassle. The staff were so friendly and helpful , especially Raquel at reception, the service was 5 star. Really enjoyed my stay thanks to the lovely staff.

So I was already on edge arriving, we had just left Cork only to be told our booking on booking.com was was in error and that our original booking could not be Honoured. Having been on the road with 3 kids who were distraught that holidays was cancelled I called up and booked a room here. I had to fork out double the amount to stay at the majestic, I understand thats their price, my hand was twisted because of the other let down.. Please note the original booking was not this hotel. We arrived, friendly lady greeted us, Hotel was clean The Room(229): Beds were average at best, kids and wife slept fine, I didnt. Room was also to warm even with windows opened. Kettle had mold and limescale Not all the lights on the room worked, I had to disconnect one bulb as it was like a strobe light. The bathroom looked lovely, but my 2 year old son spat more water pressure than the dribble from the shower. Fire Alarm: Was about 8pm, kids in bed just dozing off, until the stupid fire alarm went off, it was so loud. Freaked the kids out, one of whom couldnt sleep until 10:30pm. Breakfast: Very basic selection of hot food Milk for cereal wasnt cold Fruit was tinned No pastries Of our experience I'm sad to say I would not return. Didn't seem 4 star to me and most certainly not luxury in my opinion. Staff lovely

Response from Majestic Hotel, General Manager at Majestic Hotel
Responded 12 Aug 2023
Hi @NickCassidyCork, Thank you for reviewing your stay at The Majestic Hotel. I am truly disappointed to hear that you found your stay 'very underwhelming'. With regards to your points mentioned above; Unfortunately, we do not have air conditioning in our rooms, however and fortunately, we have been receiving warm weather in Ireland over the past few weeks and therefore every house, room and hotel in Ireland is going to be warmer than usual. Although, we do have electric fans and sheets available at reception on request, perhaps if you had rang at the time to let us know you would have had a better sleep. With regards to the kettle, I really do apologise about this as it is unacceptable to have a kettle in this state. This kettle has since been replaced. With regards to the Fire Alarm, when this goes off, this is a safety precaution if smoke is detected in a room, and to most, is a reassurance that a fire alarm works in a building, even if it is a false alarm. With regards to your comment about the lights being 'like a strobe light' and a '2 year old spitting more water pressure' than a shower, I do believe this is a highly exaggerated and animated comment, however and again if there was an issue with this, it could have been resolved during your stay as we have a maintenance team on site here for any day to day issues incurred by guests. For breakfast, I am disappointed that you felt breakfast was basic, as we have a large selection of hot and cold items available on our buffet and on order daily - Sausages, bacon, black and white pudding, potatoes, beans, tomatoes, eggs, mushrooms, cereals, nuts, seeds, breads, juices, smoothie shots, granola pots, natural yoghurt, pastries, fresh fruit, grapefruit and prunes, porridge, pancakes. If there is something else that we are missing, I would appreciate the feedback on this. Yes, grapefruit and prunes come in tins but we also have a fresh fruit salad available and pastries every morning. Perhaps all you had to do was ask for more. It really is a great pity you felt like this but it does seem you got off on the wrong foot from the inconvenience the other hotel caused. If you do happen to return to us, I do hope you have a more pleasant stay. All the best, Laura

I've thought about this review since I got home on Thursday, the 22nd of June. I am still extremely disappointed with the hotel. And more so how I was treated by staff. I spoke to 4 staff members, including a manager who called on Friday. She called me more to give out about a negative review on Facebook than to help my problem I felt. By the time I was getting to end of the call, I felt she didn't care one bit either. And made me fell it's a place I don't think I'd want to return to. I have stayed here many many times over the years, and never had a problem like this. Something should of been offered for the amount of hassle. So heres my post I added to my Facebook Can't say I'm mega pleased, we've always stayed at The Majestic Hotel, Tramore have done for the years we are coming withyhe daughter. Never had a problem. Or then again never think to check the duvet. So again last night we where mega hot and we took the duvet out of the cover and slept with the cover over us. Shocked at the duvet on the double bed. Covered in stains and blood. Staff at reception and house keeping didn't seem to care too much. If the girls changing the rooms don't say the duvet are dirty they won't be cleaned is what house keeping managementtold me. This was a hard to miss stains. Disappointing for a 4 star hotel. Can't say it was a cheap stay and that. Moral of the post if your still here. Check the beds in places you stay. I will be from now on. I paid €440 for a 2 night stay. And disappointed how staff and the manager treated the situation. Standards have slipped over the years. It's a shame. Used to be a great hotel with great standards.

Responded 28 Jun 2023
Hi @Plowqueen, I am sorry to see this has escalated as far as it has. I did think it was resolved on the night also on the next morning and once again the next day, where appropriate measures and apologies were made at all three occasions. All of our staff members care very much and their main aim is to make sure customers have a wonderful stay and are looked after to the highest standards. Unfortunately, the stains on the duvet were missed by some new members of staff and this is not in keeping with our standards. I as management here, do sincerely apologise for this once again. Contrary to your belief of 'Standards have slipped over the years. It's a shame' and 'Used to be a great hotel with great standards', the majority of our guests have praised us for the high standards being reached at The Majestic Hotel. The true shame here is that after many years of staying here and having a wonderful reputation and memories associated with the hotel, that one incidence can cause such despair. Kind regards, Laura
