Filthy, grass 3 feet high in garden. Money taken from card almost immediately even though we were not travelling for 4 months. Location is great for beach but plenty of other choices in Youghal. Go elsewhere

This is our Ironman Cork story; myself and my husband Sean had driven from Mayo to Youghal to support our dear friend Laura who was participating in her first Ironman which she absolutely slayed. We had booked Evergreen House bed and breakfast which had gotten really bad reviews but it was the only accommodation I could find available in Youghal and we just wanted somewhere to lay our heads for the night. After a 5 hour drive we had arrived at the B&B and nobody was in. I tried calling the landline number I had and it sounded like it had been disconnected. I then tried the mobile number. A man answered and when I mentioned the B&B his voice tine changed and he denied knowing anything about it. We were left stranded in Youghal with no where to stay on the busiest weekend of the year. We were told by a passing gentleman the B&B had closed and despite taking our booking only a few weeks previous had not let us know of its closure. The man very kindly waited until we made a few calls and then offered us a couch in his flat in town. He lived on his own and was working as one of the assistants for the Ironman. What a wonderful trusting gesture to offer your home to two strangers in need. I have heard since this place opens and closed a few times recently. If this is their regular business practice I hope their decision is to stay closed

I walk my dog on the beach near here. Some months ago I met a couple who asked me if I knew the owner as they had booked but when they arrived there was no one there. I told them I did not , they left and said they would try and find another place to stay. About a month later I met another lady who asked if there was somewhere else to stay nearby. Last night I met four Italians from Florence who said they had booked through Expedia but there was no one at the house when they arrived. I and a friend tried to help them find alternative accommodation but everywhere was full in Youghal. They ended up sleeping on the floor of my house as the alternative was to sleep cramped in their hired car for the night. I have since heard similar stories from other people.

When I arrived there was no one in the house to open the door or check me in, I tried to find a telephone number but every time I called it it said the mail box was full, eventually someone arrived, she told me there was no water as they were waiting for the plumber, I got shown to my room. There was a lot of mound and cracked plaster on the walls the beds were very basic, everything was very basic. There was a lot of noise up u til 11.30pm. The next morning myself and my son went up to the breakfast room to get our ‘full cooked breakfast’ but there was no sight of anyone only a white loaf and a box of frosties!!! On checking out I asked the lady about the full cooked breakfast as advertised but she said that was an old advert and they haven’t done a full cooked breakfast for about a year, I asked her for the details of the management but she said she could not give it to me. I feel very disappointed with the whole thing this was supposed to be a special treat for myself and my son, but it turned out to be a disaster!!!
