Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

One of the best decisions we made after we decided to get married was to have our Wedding at the Walter Raleigh Hotel.
The Assistance from the Manager Michael in the lead up to the weekend was "absolutely" superb.
The food, service and catering over the whole weekend was second to none
The location of the hotel on the Youghal seafront is spectacular, all of the rooms are unique very well furnished and stylish.
Nothing was too much trouble from any of the staff, just to mention a few of the team, Leon, Sabrina, Tomasz and Jason we thank you and all the other team members for all your hard work.
We walked in as strangers but left as friends.

Recently we had the pleasure of visiting this hotel to celebrate our daughters First Holy Communion. After the communion being postponed due to the current health crisis we wanted to make it a bit special for my daughter.

The hotel has a very unique feel to it when you arrive, almost as if you have stepped back in time to visit an immaculate new luxurious hotel.

All the staff were welcoming and very helpful and the family room was very spacious and had a touch of elegance and class about it.

Our meal was delicious and correctly portioned. I had a caesar salad with at first I felt could have done with 2 or 3 more slices of smoked chicken but when i finished it actually was portioned just right. For my main I went with the leg of lamb with stuffing. I need to take a second here and ignore the tasty lamb and beautiful gravy and talk about the mash potato.

The mash potato is pure heaven. Silky smooth in a perfect quenelle, buttered and seasoned to perfection. The care taken to produce such a smooth mash potato shows the care and attention given to every plate of food. Trust me, it was amazing.

To sum up our stay, it really a fine way to treat our daughter on a very special day and something I don't think we will forget.

Just back from a weekend at this fab hotel . I have stayed here many times but this visit reminded me what a gem this hotel is . We had a beautiful bedroom overlooking the sea fully refurbished during Covid shutdown. It was fresh and spotless with amenities for tea and coffee maker in the room .. so comfortable & relaxing . All areas of the hotel were so clean with a superb fresh and bright décor. The attention of the friendly professional staff to their guests was really impressive The hotel has put so much effort into providing a very high standard of safety for guests and staff in reaction to Covid including a lovely outdoor dinning area beside the indoor restaurant and to the and front of the building a outdoor dining area where you can enjoy food or a drink with a lovely sea view . We had breakfast on the balcony looking out to a beautiful sea view both mornings with a lovely menu to choose from fresh fruit & yogurts to the full Irish fry . Carrot muffins are a must try ! . As for restaurant all day & dinner menu the food it was so good ! The menu is very reasonable priced and everything we had was delicious . This hotel has captured the best of everything in a beautiful building beside the sea with Top Class staff and wonderful food .

Paid for an upgrade but room by hotel standards was low. Furniture was tired and worn. Bathroom and bedroom were small. 5 foot bed nestled between two lockers was the width of the room. Sitting area was squeezing two hard chairs around the window which offered an extra foot from the bed.
Three day stay rooms now not attended because of covid. If you required towels/toiletries you could ask. Breakfast was the basic fry preceded by a packet of Alpen or cornflakes. Fruit juice was straight out of a carton.
If the price was proportionate to the offering I would not have written a review. It was what I would expect from a very basic hotel but at €150 per night I felt genuinely robbed and would compare my experience to having stayed in a boarding house.

Stayed here over the weekend, from start to finish the stay was full of disappointment. The service at check in was so poor, no information given about the hotel/location etc. The room was spotless and had a sea view which was the only positive about the stay. The service in the restaurant at dinner and breakfast was the worst I have ever seen, each engagement with the staff was rushed even though there was plenty of staff working, we had to ask for everything jug of water, salt etc all basics that should not need to be asked for. Our drinks were never cleared from the table when finished, we started to clear the table ourselves. It was the first restaurant that I was in that not one member of staff checked in with us to see if everything was ok with our food especially when we had ordered 2 steaks!! When paying for dinner we expressed how poor our experience was and we got complimentary drinks which was decent but didn’t improve the stay. The breakfast experience was as disappointing as dinner, loads of mistakes made by the staff and rude towards us if we asked for anything. Finally checking out when dropping back the room keys, we were not even asked how our stay was reception staff just took the keys and that was that. Absolutely shocking!!!!

Hi
Booked in and room was lovely even complimented bottle of precesco. Woke up took shower but no hair dryer. Phoned reception and they said they would send me up one. An hour later no hairdryer. Went off for days came back booked table for dinner. Girl apologize for hairdryer. Went to room!!! No bed made no towels and no hairdryer. Went down to reception spoke to manager, not very nice said note in room to say housekeeping has to be requested but this is on card exactly like one to say room sanatised etc so I didn’t read it . he arrived up with dryer I said he maybe should mention to guests at check in about housekeeping but rejected idea or that maybe card should be yellow for covid but dismissed it and said everybody else read it. Very bad attitude towards guests won’t return or recommend

I visited the Walter Raleigh hotel for a meal recently,Was expecting great things. I was all excited with my family for our first meal out since last year over covid. It’s safe to say it was the worst experience I have had with a restaurant. The service was appalling, firstly we got told to sit inside when it’s outdoor dining because of the restrictions and we were so confused because we had the table booked for two weeks in advance For outdoors. We ordered our food and asked for a side of chips with the main but it came out before the starters even came out. We had to ask for our own water after finishing the starter. We never got asked once if we were okay or if we wanted anything else. We had no salt or pepper on the tables and our water wasn’t filled once. We also got given the wrong meal. Not a single beer glass was collected thought out the three course meal. The lack of communication between the staff is terrible. The food was lovely but the service was poorly.

Stayed at the Walter Raleigh mid June 2022.
Every interaction with hotel staff from booking through checkout was simply a pleasure. Friendly, helpful and interested was the overall sense right across the hotel. Despite being busy every person took time to greet us and make us feel comfortable.
This is a business which has managed to maintain customer service at the forefront of it's offering and it made for such a pleasant stay.
Many thanks to Jason for dealing with a red wine on carpet incident with minimal fuss and a very friendly demeanour. Jason and the entire team we encountered are a huge asset to the business.
It is hard to believe the building is 200 years old given the excellent cleanliness and overall condition of the entire hotel. Breakfast was a very good selection each morning in a very comfortable, airy dining area with a marvellous view. Again nothing was too much trouble despite the busy room.
Dinner on a busy evening was also very good. Service again was excellent from a young but very capable team.
All in all a really pleasant stay in a very nice hotel which was enhanced by the service and particularly the staff.

I recently stayed in this wonderful hotel with 9 girlfriends. From the moment we arrived until we left we were so well looked after. The hotel was recently refurbished to a very high standard . We all had beautiful rooms with wonderful views of the sea. All toiletries were from The Irish Company which was very impressive. The food in the bar was just gorgeous, we had lunch and dinner in the bar and every one of our dishes were nicer than each other. The staff are so helpful and welcoming in particular Jason and Michael. The hotel is in a great location across the road from a small beach and less than 5 minutes from the town. It is excellent value for money and we will definitely be returning

We travelled to Youghal from Dublin for 2 nights recently and had a perfect stay in Walter Raleigh hotel. We stayed in a beautiful suite on the second floor over looking the water which was bright, spacious and spotless! The room was so clean and you could tell the bathroom had been recently refurbished. We ate breakfast on the restaurant terrace both mornings, the service and food was great. The hotel have adapted really well in these difficult times and we felt safe and comfortable throughout our stay. Restaurants and pubs are all walking distance from the hotel too.
