Hotel is right in town (Youghal). It is a boutique type hotel with a staff that is very friendly. We met the 2 couples that own the hotel (brothers David and John with wives Gaye and Kate). Each one has their own area of expertise (reception, chef, restaurant maitre d ) and made sure that they got to know us .The breakfast is included and is very good( I got the full Irish) . The dinner was out of this world especially if you like very fresh seafood. We chose to eat in the cozy pub near the fire which was a great atmosphere. Both seafood dishes were phenomenal..After dinner, Gaye brought our after dinner Irish coffees to the sitting room down the hall and lit the fire for us. While in Youghal, don't miss St Mary's Collegiate Church -just a 5 minute walk away.

This was our second time to visit Youghal and stay at Aherne’s Townhouse Hotel in the center of Youghal. We travelled as a couple and were welcomed upon arrival by the lovely lady who was busy in the lounge at the time. We were shown to Room 2 and were delighted with the lovely accommodation and large spotless bathroom. We ate in Aherne’s Restaurant that night and enjoyed a truly wonderful three course meal from the set dinner menu. The staff were attentive and nothing was a problem for them. The food is fresh and perfectly cooked in a setting with lovely ambience and hands down to the young pianist who played the background music. The atmosphere in the bar after our meal was very relaxing and after a fantastic nights sleep we came to the breakfast room and ate a lovely cooked to order full Irish breakfast with the best brown bread ever tasted ❤️ We would highly recommend this lovely small hotel if you are visiting Youghal and you really must eat in the Restaurant to sample their famous fish menu. We will be back!

stayed here in January after receiving a present of a blue book voucher for Christmas 2019. Yougal is a part of cork we have never visited and we found it to be charming with lovely, friendly people. The townhouse is very beautiful and all staff very nice and chatty and make you feel very welcome. We really enjoyed sitting at the fire in the drawing room after long walk around the town and along the waterside, building up appetite for dinner which we had booked to have in their onsite restaurant. Our room was huge and very comfortable, however this is the area we both feel that the owners of Ahearns let themselves down and need to up their game, especially when part of the Blue Book group. There is a welcome basket in the room with coffee and various selections of teas but no packs of biscuits or any complimentary snacks. Seriously? Have never come across this in any other hotel or guest houses we have stayed in before, even the cheap and cheerful ones. No bottled water in the room and we were charged 6 Euro each at the bar , yes that's right, to bring water up to our room after our evening dinner. We hated paying 12 Euro for two bottles of water but we needed it and shops in the town would have been closed at the time. Bring your own water folks. After using our voucher here and paying extra to upgrade to evening dinner and having a drink in their own bar, this made us feel ripped off. Also there is a lovely en suite bathroom, big bath with shower over it and plenty of towels provided but no bathrobes. This would have been a nice touch as it's great to put robe on after shower and do your make up or nails before dinner. Breakfast the next morning was really nice and cooked to order and we also enjoyed dinner the evening before. We would return to this town again but not too Ahearn's Town house.

A group of four of us ate here on the Saturday of the August bank holiday weekend. The food was really good and the fish was lovely and fresh but our evening was completely destroyed by our server who seemed annoyed at us from start to finish. We were ‘shooed’ to our seats and had menus more or less thrown at us to begin with. She then rushed us through our ordering told us to ‘come on come on come on’ and that she was in a rush.

We were also shocked when the bill arrived it seemed a little steep, upon inspection we realised some of our meals had been charged for twice and three times each, the difference adding up to an extra €128! When we called our server to let her know she snatched the bill from my hand without even listening to my concern and said it was simply human error, she because irate and hysterical stating that we were upsetting her and this prompted her to call the manager on us!! Obviously this was very embarrassing as other diners had started to listen in.

We tried to remain calm and explain the situation to the manager all the while she accused us of being liars. The manager dealt with the situation as best he could and knocked the price of our wine off the bill as well as taking out all the additional meals that were charged for but we had never had, but to be honest we were so shocked the evening was more or less ruined by now.

I wasn’t planning on leaving a bad review as the manager did apologise profusely and it was a nice gesture of good will that he took our wine off the bill. However I do think what happened was completely out of order and people who can’t even act civil to paying customers have no place working in such a role.

Again I’d like to reiterate that the food was really good but the evening was tainted by her behaviour. And always always double check your bill!

Very disappointed with my first visit to your restaurant on Saturday 31st July. In hindsight the alarm bells should have rung when I received at least 3 phone calls about my booking. Twice I had to ring back as whoever rang hung up quick so I had to ring back not recognising the number. Chaos even with staff re booking. On arrival to a practically empty outdoor area we were led to our table for 4 with 3 just seats. Staff had to get another seat despite reservation being made for four people days in advance. No cutlery or glasses on the table. Nothing ready. Very sparse table.
Two of the party ordered from the 'specials board' monkfish scampi with sautéed potatoes and a few scraps of limp salad on the plate for €29 was disgraceful. Very basic would have at least expected a nice tossed salad bowl served separately. The steak was the same poorly presented with the veg consisting of onion and mushrooms. The salmon gratin was nice. Staff seemed to be under pressure. We were so looking forward to this meal but left totally deflated by the experience. No atmosphere whatsoever even a bit of background music to create some ambience for diners. My son-in-law picked up the tab in honour of my husband's birthday which upset us as we all agreed it was terrible bad value.

We stayed here specifically for what we'd read about the top class seafood and it definitely didn't disappoint in this regard. The Al La Carte menu was superb both nights, lobster and monkfish dishes - sublime. The set menu is also great value at €40 pp. The desserts deserve a special mention and would highly recommend trying a glass of Californian Black Muscat with any of these. Compliments to the chef. Id also like to give staff member Ann a mention for her warm and friendly approach. From accommodation perspective beds are King Koil & very comfortable, rooms spacious and spotlessly clean. The decor is a little jaded, however this no way took from an incredible food experience!

booked a meal for myself and my fiance , it was our first time there having moved to the area over a year ago. firstly didnt know where we were going when we arrived, ended up behind the bar trying to get to bar, we were asked out of the way by a member of staff as we asked for directions... Then when we went into a small pokey bar room we were seated at 2 seater table alongside an occupied 2 seater table where there were people eating right next to us with a big awkward screen between us, there were 2 other big tables free in the room in hindsight i should have asked then to be moved but we moved our table over a bit instead as i didnt want the couple next to us to be embarrassed either if you know what i mean.. we ordered steak and monkfish with risotto which actually burned me when i went to eat it.. fish was like rubber, I can only assume it was microwaved it was that hot and bland, steak was nice to be fair presented with half burnt potato chips, but these dishes were not cheap 30 E each like! got a baileys coffee after which came in the smallest of wine glasses and that was like nearly 9E.. anyway when we went to complain about the whole experience it was basically dismissed and we were told that there was a christening on and they were busy etc.. also we our covid certs were not checked until we were sitting down waiting on our food, I found the managment/owners staff rude, food was basic and plain and could have done much more to make our experience enjoyable, we wont be back, also please get rid of your wooden board with the specials and deserts which is plonked on a chair in front of you disgraceful,,,

My wife and I stayed in this character-filled and quintessentially Irish townhouse as part of a staycation in the Autumn. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted warmly with a smile and a nod from all the staff we encountered. Our room was spacious, impeccably clean and decorated tastefully in keeping with the rest of the property. The bar service was friendly and informal, making it a perfect spot for a couple of drinks pre dinner. The evening menu was an absolute treat, local seafood prepared perfectly and served promptly by the waiting staff. The hot and cold breakfast that was served the following morning was delicious and set us up for a day of exploring. A friendly chat with the owners where we gathered loads of information on the surrounding area capped off a fantastic night away.
Would recommend a stay in AHerne's Townhuse without hesitation and will be making a return on our next visit to East Cork.

If you want modern bland decor and a swimming pool for the kids, then go somewhere else. If you want a place with character run by very friendly people, then this is your place.
The tasting menu is very, very good and at €75pp including paired wine with each course, it's incredible value.
I can count on one hand the places that I would consider returning to. And this place makes the grade.

You can take a train to Waterford from Dublin. Then catch the Cork bus from Waterford bus station which stops in Youghal about 50 metres from Ahearn's. Bus timetables from Bus Eireann website.
