I have been to a few weddings at Cabra Castle and each time I am struck by the beauty and romance of the castle and its gardens. Our latest visit was to a family wedding in May and we stayed 2 nights in a Courtyard Double Room. The four poster bed and the stylish décor of the room was just stunning. The staff were friendly and welcoming as we celebrated a birthday as well as the wedding. It is expensive to stay but certainly worth it for a special occasion.

hank you for providing feedback from your recent stay with us. It is always so lovely to receive such positive feedback for our dedicated team, working tirelessly to maintain our high standards. Cabra castle is so rich in history, dating back to the 18th century and there is certainly plenty of authenticity! Every effort has been made by the Corscadden family to maintain and enhance the original features - I'm delighted you enjoyed the ambiance. There are ample grounds, nooks and crannies to explore. No visit is ever the same as you discover a new gem or corridor at every turn. We are looking forward to you returning to us again and have no doubt providing you with another amazing experience.

The room was amazing with a 4 poster bed and deep filled bath tub and a massive rainfall shower. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.

I was an invited guest for Sunday lunch on 31/07. Table was booked for 2.30 and as we were a table of more than 10 people we were given a "limited menu'. Orders were eventually taken and food arrived 1.5 hours later. Service from bar was also dreadful. When food eventually arrived, it was such a disappointment, I had Caesar salad which was one of the worst I have had, curry also bad. It was obvious that there were far too many bookings taken ,for a busy day in the area. Staff seemed oblivious to what was going on. As I was just a guest,I couldnt complain, but really poor overall. Have been here numerous times in the past but it will be a very long time before I return.

I am very disappointed to read your review and sorry you had such a poor experience with us on this occasion. As a previous guest I am sure you are aware this is certainly not the standard to which we operate to at Cabra castle. Sunday 31st was I agree, and exceptionally busy Sunday with local event seeing a huge influx of unexpected guests. Bookings are allocated according on our in-house system. In an effort to facilitate larger bookings, and on exceptionally busy days, we do offer a limited menu to our customers to reduce the pressure for our hardworking dedicated Chef team. They work tirelessly to accommodate all guests, while maintaining the highest standards to food quality. I’m disappointed to hear you waited 1.5 hours for your order to arrive and can assure you these comments are being addressed with our management team. I sincerely apologise for the sub-standard service received there, which I can assure you is not the norm here at our castle. With regard to your feedback on the standard of food at Cabra castle, I am disappointed to hear you didn't enjoy your meal. It is most unusual to receive negative feedback on the quality of food we offer. Our Caesar salad and dressings have won many awards most recently gold medal in the great taste award. I am aware that taste is very subjective, and everyone is entitled to their own opinions depending on personal preferences. It is my hope that you will not rule out a return Cabra castle entirely after this one negative experience as I am certain, if given another opportunity, your experience would be entirely different.

I would rate Cabra Castle 4.5 stars. The castle itself is gorgeous, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. The staff was very courteous and helpful. We stayed in the courtyard for two days on our travels through Ireland. The rooms are spacious, quaint, and well appointed. There is no air conditioning, but that seems pretty standard. We were able to open the windows to cool things off, but that made it awkward at night because the top of the windows had no cover so people could see right in as they passed by. We also didn’t realize that they would be having wedding receptions late (2am-ish) into the night. The sound carried and was really loud in our room making it difficult to sleep before our early mornings. Since there was no AC or fan, we couldn’t close the windows, and they didn’t offer earplugs at the front desk. We dined at each of the restaurants on property — the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Breakfast was included and was a fantastic way to start the day. We enjoyed the ghost story and Sarah’s mysterious room. We played cards in one of the drawing rooms while we had a drink. We loved being able to explore the castle and the grounds. Overall, this was an incredible experience. Being unable to close the windows for privacy and to muffle the noise was really my only complaint about our stay and could easily be remedied by having a fan in the rooms so that the windows could be closed.

Stayed in courtyard room 78 on July 11, 2022. It was basically a coverted hay loft. First floor (above the ground floor) was very warm and fans were not available. My 83 year old mother was given a smilar room on the upper floor with a tub wall so high she could not get into it. Room service is not provided for the 'Court Yard'. The 12 hour brazed lamb shank was very good. Venue is not very handicap friendly.

Thank you for providing feedback from your recent stay with us. I am disappointed to hear you didn’t enjoy your most recent experience with us. Our team here work tirelessly to maintain our standards at the castle. I’m sorry to hear you found our courtyard room did not meet your satisfaction. I can assure you that as a Board Failte accredited hotel we are regularly reviewed, and I am proud to say that all elements of the hotel do indeed meet and exceed the 4-star criteria. These rooms in the courtyard feature Super king beds and couches yet allow sufficient space to move around. The ceiling height is lower in these top floor Courtyards rooms with sloped sides which may well be a contributing factor to your comments of a loft feel, though there is sufficient headspace, and all within regulations. While we do not have air conditioning in rooms, we do have an option to request desktop fans and air conditioning units at the hotel, I apologise if these were not available to you on your stay, normally we do have sufficient supplies of all. Room service is normally available for Courtyard guests, I’m sorry to hear you were unable to avail of this service during your stay and have passed this information to our management team to investigate. I’m sorry to hear you Mum had a disappointing experience with her room also, we do our best to accommodate any room allocation requests given prior to booking and on the day at check in. I’m sure having brought this to the attention of our dedicated reservations and front office team, every effort would have been made to facilitate any requests. In reference to our hotel not being handicap friendly, I can advise as we are an 18th Century listed building, we are very limited to what structural alterations can be made. We have endeavoured to make Cabra castle as accessible as possible, within our remit, with the installation of numerous ramps on the exterior of the building and the recent addition of a mobility lift. The lift allows access between the ground floor, main dining room and 2nd floor bedrooms. Rest assured, we have passed your comments onto all the necessary departments, and we apologise that your experience wasn’t as enjoyable as we all had wished for. We hope this will not deter you revisiting us in the future.

It's difficult to know where to begin with this review, because there is so much good to share. We wanted to stay in a castle one night and I must say Cabra castle did not disappoint. It felt like a true authentic experience. I'll start with driving up to the castle, it was an incredible view right out of a fairy book. The castle was amazing, and grounds were beautiful, I felt like I was in a movie. I had heard that the building and grounds might be haunted, which to me was inspiring since I'm a bit of a ghost hunter (I didn't mention any of that to my traveling companion as I wasn't sure how she would take it). Anyway we went in to check in, and check in went smoothly. We were given a skeleton key (which was a nice touch) and got a room in the Courtyard, which was a lovely room; a room that had a stonewall on one side and beautiful furnishings, quite authentic. We went to dinner right away as we had arrived late and they accommodated us quickly, and we had a nice dinner. We were a little bit concerned because we had just arrived in jeans and T shirts, but there was no dress code which was a relief. Although if you do have time to tidy yourself up and wear something nice it might be more fun, because the décor lends itself to being a bit fancy. After dinner we went back to the room and much to our surprise there were fireworks right outside our window. Apparently someone was having a wedding and it was part of their night. So we got lucky; it was a great show. I decided to go down to the bar, which fortunately, is open very late, to get a pint of Guinness and talk to the bartender about some of the stories that he may have heard. He told me he'd felt a "presence" before, and that other people had mentioned it too, but that they had never actually seen any hauntings. That was intriguing enough for me, so I decided to walk the hotel grounds and see what I could experience. I went to the rooms in the twenties and also to the staircase where some stories had been reported, but I didn't see anything, although it definitely has an ambiance or a feeling of a possible haunting. I went and took some beautiful pictures, and then I was walking through the hallway and there's a section where there are portraits of a family, I think the name said Maury, and they're all staring at you, so I began staring into the eyes of the portraits, when all of a sudden out of nowhere I hear someone say "Stop staring!" in a loud whisper. I looked around me, and there was no one there. I looked around the corner, behind me, in front of me; no one there. I even said out loud "Is there somebody here, who said that?" No answer. Anyway, that was pretty cool. So I went back to our room as it was getting late, and I settled down to sleep. That night there was a lot of rattling of the door and windows, adding to the experience that I had hoped for. Slept well, got up in the morning and had a delicious full breakfast in the beautifully decorated breakfast room. Service was fantastic for dinner and breakfast, and the bartender was friendly and fun. I took a few more pictures and we were on our way. As we were driving away, my companion looked at me and said "you know our room was haunted, don't you?" As I stated before I had never mentioned it, so I was surprised to hear her say that, but she had told me she felt a presence moving around in our room, especially when I wasn't there. Very Cool! The whole experience was awesome! Loved every minute of it. If you are looking to stay in a castle that feels authentic and even possibly haunted, then this is your place! And it comes along with great service and good food and comfortable rooms. Pretty awesome!

Many thanks for taking the time to write a review! What a spooktacular review of your most recent stay. I am happy to hear you enjoyed all the hotel has to offer, great food, excellent service and amazing accommodation. We love to receive such wonderful comments for our dedicated teams. Cabra castle is so rich in history, dating back to the 18th century and there is certainly plenty of authenticity! Every effort has been made by the Corscadden family to maintain and enhance the original features - I'm delighted you enjoyed the ambiance. Did you know.... we have been voted the world 2nd most haunted castle! There is plenty of photographic evidence to support these claims however in my time here, I have yet to encounter one. Thankfully we have heard all our spirits are friendly and fit very nicely with our amazing staff. We hope we can welcome you back again in the near future!!

Visited Cabra Castle for dinner last week, to say that we where disappointed would be an understatement. The Castle and grounds are absolutely stunning and having attended 2 weddings there over the years I can truly say that it's a wonderful place for weddings. But our dinner experience was not up to these expectations. We both ordered the Kilkeel crab cakes , and both ours where overcooked and where more potato than crab. My husband had the duck which was very fatty and almost grey incolour swimming in balsamic vinegar. I had ordered the rack of lamb which was mediocre, both of our mains had 2 cherry tomatoes on the plate 1 of which was cold and the other roasted...haven't a clue what was going on with the whole dinner.. staff where all lovely but the food certainly does not live up to the venue.

Many thanks for your feedback from your recent visit to Cabra castle hotel. The grounds of the Castle are indeed stunning and it truly is a wonderful place to attend a wedding, so I'm delighted to hear you were able to experience 2 such occasions in the past. I'm so disappointed to hear your most recent experience in the restaurant did not live up to the expectations. Our team of Chef's are renowned for the excellent food quality and it is most unusual to receive such feedback. I'm sure if these concerns were raised with our food and beverage team on the night every effort would have been made to ensure you left feeling satisfied. Rest assured I have passed on your comments to our Executive Head Chef here. We really do hope this one experience will not deter you from visiting us in the future.
