I have been to a few weddings at Cabra Castle and each time I am struck by the beauty and romance of the castle and its gardens. Our latest visit was to a family wedding in May and we stayed 2 nights in a Courtyard Double Room. The four poster bed and the stylish décor of the room was just stunning. The staff were friendly and welcoming as we celebrated a birthday as well as the wedding. It is expensive to stay but certainly worth it for a special occasion.
Beautiful food. Clean and classy accommodation. Great and very friendly staff (especially Laura for breakfast in the restaurant) I can’t recommend this place highly enough. We came over from England for a friends wedding and will definitely go back.
We visited for 1 night and it is certainly a night I won't forget. The room, staff, food in fact everything was first class. The staff were so friendly and nothing was bother. The room was amazing with a 4 poster bed and deep filled bath tub and a massive rainfall shower. Would definitely recommend and look forward to returning.
I was an invited guest for Sunday lunch on 31/07. Table was booked for 2.30 and as we were a table of more than 10 people we were given a "limited menu'. Orders were eventually taken and food arrived 1.5 hours later. Service from bar was also dreadful. When food eventually arrived, it was such a disappointment, I had Caesar salad which was one of the worst I have had, curry also bad. It was obvious that there were far too many bookings taken ,for a busy day in the area. Staff seemed oblivious to what was going on. As I was just a guest,I couldnt complain, but really poor overall. Have been here numerous times in the past but it will be a very long time before I return.
I’m currently staying here for a wedding and I can honestly say it’s the most fabulous place to get married. Our server Louisa was the most fantastic and funny and so helpful person. I couldn’t recommend this place enough. It’s a mist see. Thanks to all the staff. Amanda
I would rate Cabra Castle 4.5 stars. The castle itself is gorgeous, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped. The staff was very courteous and helpful. We stayed in the courtyard for two days on our travels through Ireland. The rooms are spacious, quaint, and well appointed. There is no air conditioning, but that seems pretty standard. We were able to open the windows to cool things off, but that made it awkward at night because the top of the windows had no cover so people could see right in as they passed by. We also didn’t realize that they would be having wedding receptions late (2am-ish) into the night. The sound carried and was really loud in our room making it difficult to sleep before our early mornings. Since there was no AC or fan, we couldn’t close the windows, and they didn’t offer earplugs at the front desk. We dined at each of the restaurants on property — the food was delicious and the service was excellent. Breakfast was included and was a fantastic way to start the day. We enjoyed the ghost story and Sarah’s mysterious room. We played cards in one of the drawing rooms while we had a drink. We loved being able to explore the castle and the grounds. Overall, this was an incredible experience. Being unable to close the windows for privacy and to muffle the noise was really my only complaint about our stay and could easily be remedied by having a fan in the rooms so that the windows could be closed.…
Stayed in courtyard room 78 on July 11, 2022. It was basically a coverted hay loft. First floor (above the ground floor) was very warm and fans were not available. My 83 year old mother was given a smilar room on the upper floor with a tub wall so high she could not get into it. Room service is not provided for the 'Court Yard'. The 12 hour brazed lamb shank was very good. Venue is not very handicap friendly.
On a Recent visit to Cabra Castle for Dinner we recieved a warm friendly welcome from the staff. The food was fab, with lots of choice on the menu. Our Waiter Declan was an absolute gentleman from the moment we arrive we were looked after very quickly and his manner was so so nice. Food was fabulous so tasty. I would Highly recommend Cabra Castle and we will be returning soon.
It's difficult to know where to begin with this review, because there is so much good to share. We wanted to stay in a castle one night and I must say Cabra castle did not disappoint. It felt like a true authentic experience. I'll start with driving up to the castle, it was an incredible view right out of a fairy book. The castle was amazing, and grounds were beautiful, I felt like I was in a movie. I had heard that the building and grounds might be haunted, which to me was inspiring since I'm a bit of a ghost hunter (I didn't mention any of that to my traveling companion as I wasn't sure how she would take it). Anyway we went in to check in, and check in went smoothly. We were given a skeleton key (which was a nice touch) and got a room in the Courtyard, which was a lovely room; a room that had a stonewall on one side and beautiful furnishings, quite authentic. We went to dinner right away as we had arrived late and they accommodated us quickly, and we had a nice dinner. We were a little bit concerned because we had just arrived in jeans and T shirts, but there was no dress code which was a relief. Although if you do have time to tidy yourself up and wear something nice it might be more fun, because the décor lends itself to being a bit fancy. After dinner we went back to the room and much to our surprise there were fireworks right outside our window. Apparently someone was having a wedding and it was part of their night. So we got lucky; it was a great show. I decided to go down to the bar, which fortunately, is open very late, to get a pint of Guinness and talk to the bartender about some of the stories that he may have heard. He told me he'd felt a "presence" before, and that other people had mentioned it too, but that they had never actually seen any hauntings. That was intriguing enough for me, so I decided to walk the hotel grounds and see what I could experience. I went to the rooms in the twenties and also to the staircase where some stories had been reported, but I didn't see anything, although it definitely has an ambiance or a feeling of a possible haunting. I went and took some beautiful pictures, and then I was walking through the hallway and there's a section where there are portraits of a family, I think the name said Maury, and they're all staring at you, so I began staring into the eyes of the portraits, when all of a sudden out of nowhere I hear someone say "Stop staring!" in a loud whisper. I looked around me, and there was no one there. I looked around the corner, behind me, in front of me; no one there. I even said out loud "Is there somebody here, who said that?" No answer. Anyway, that was pretty cool. So I went back to our room as it was getting late, and I settled down to sleep. That night there was a lot of rattling of the door and windows, adding to the experience that I had hoped for. Slept well, got up in the morning and had a delicious full breakfast in the beautifully decorated breakfast room. Service was fantastic for dinner and breakfast, and the bartender was friendly and fun. I took a few more pictures and we were on our way. As we were driving away, my companion looked at me and said "you know our room was haunted, don't you?" As I stated before I had never mentioned it, so I was surprised to hear her say that, but she had told me she felt a presence moving around in our room, especially when I wasn't there. Very Cool! The whole experience was awesome! Loved every minute of it. If you are looking to stay in a castle that feels authentic and even possibly haunted, then this is your place! And it comes along with great service and good food and comfortable rooms. Pretty awesome!…
Visited Cabra Castle for dinner last week, to say that we where disappointed would be an understatement. The Castle and grounds are absolutely stunning and having attended 2 weddings there over the years I can truly say that it's a wonderful place for weddings. But our dinner experience was not up to these expectations. We both ordered the Kilkeel crab cakes , and both ours where overcooked and where more potato than crab. My husband had the duck which was very fatty and almost grey incolour swimming in balsamic vinegar. I had ordered the rack of lamb which was mediocre, both of our mains had 2 cherry tomatoes on the plate 1 of which was cold and the other roasted...haven't a clue what was going on with the whole dinner.. staff where all lovely but the food certainly does not live up to the venue.…
