We visited the Hotel Kilmore in Cavan on Saturday evening August 15th with the intention of having a meal.
We arrived about 8 pm approx.
We had not booked prior to our arrival ,so we were not sure if we would get a table for two.
There were two couples waiting before us in the reception area, who obviously had booked ,so we thought to ourselves we would not get in.
Within a few minutes, a very pleasant Gentleman came to us from a reception desk they have set up at the entrance to the dining room and asked us had we booked a table. We said we hadn't, and then he said to us , if we could wait for about 20 to 30 minutes he would get us a table.
We said ,yes , that would be perfect, and as it was a sunny evening ,we decided that we could have a drink first or even sit outside.
Within 5 minutes , the Gentleman came back to us and said that a table will be free in about 15 minutes as the staff are clearing it and sanitizing it as we speak.
After about 10 minutes he called us , signed us in , asked for our contact details etc, and he led us into a reception hall behind the main reception area.
To our amazement , this was absolutely perfect for a dining room.
Tables were very well spaced , probably about 3 meters apart rather than 2 meters. There was about 15 to 18 tables in there and the room was very tastefully decorated.
We were taken to our table and even though there were lots of people dining in there ,we were well spaced away from everybody else, but at the same time it had that real dining room feel to it.
We were served by a very pleasant waitress and we could chat away to ourselves without that sometimes too much dining room noise you get in other establishments.
The food was 1st class , I had Salmon which was delicious.
I have to say , this was one of my best experiences of a night out since the lifting of the lockdown of Covid 19.
I would definetly say to any other establishment that serves food ,incl other hotels , the Kilmore Hotel leads the way in how it should be done.
Well done to all the staff and management here , you have put in lots of effort and work into getting this right.
It works just perfectly here , and while you are in here , it feels so normal that you would not even think that Covid 19 ever existed.
I couldn't recommend it highly enough , go and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
This for me is the future of going out for a night, The Kilmore definetly leads the way.
I hope they get the rewards they deserve .
By the way , I have no connection to this hotel , I was visiting a friend in Cavan , though I live in Dublin..

Totally loved this hotel. I had stayed in the terrible 4 star Abbey Hotel Roscommon 2 weeks earlier and they are not even on comparison.
Beautiful from the moment you reach the front of the hotel. Clean, well presented, nice staff. Dinner was fantastic.
Only thing I can knock it for is the mattress was way too hard for me.
Room was so tastefully done, loved the photographs on the walls, they can't date. The bathroom was fabulous, a walk in double size shower with a rainfall shower head and a traditional head.
Breakfast was served buffet style, the chef putting the food on your plate for you, very hygienic in these Covid times. Plenty of sanitising stations around the hotel too.
Highly recommended!

The hotel itself is lovely. Well decorated throughout.
Check-in was smooth and easy, reception staff friendly and helpful.
The room was very nice, with a large double bed, TV, and the usual ammendenties you would expect to find in a hotel.
We did avail of the hotel restaurant- the food was excellent!
Loved the hotel so much we have just booked to stay again in 3 weeks time.
I would like to mention my appreciation to the staff of Hotel Kilmore, all professional and friendly, it pays to greet guests when walking round the hotel.
Breakfast was lovely, I am not normally one to eat first thing in the morning but the food was of a high quality and breakfast is ran in a very covid secure way.
I would like to thank the staff at Hotel Kilmore for making our stay pleasant and I look forward to being back in 3 weeks' time! :)

Not the hotel's fault but the fire alarm went off at around 3 o'clock in the morning. When we were evacuating the hotel, a staff member informed us that there was no fire and that we could return to our rooms. The Bar Manager that we spoke to that night after the fire alarm was more than helpful and apologised for the inconvenience - We didn't mind as we both work in hotels so we know what the score is.
Service in the restaurant was a bit slow, but the restaurant was busy and it appeared that there were new members of staff on, who would have been training, so this was not an issue!

The hotel was nice for a short stay. Our room could have done with fresh paint as wall was stained and rips on wallpaper. I felt a little uncomfortable being served food and drinks by staff who didn't wear masks. There was sanitizer at the main door and at entrance to rooms and bar. As they were newly opened I expected that all staff would be wearing masks especially for the first few months at least. There was a glass at reception when checking in but I would have felt more comfortable knowing that all staff were wearing masks and trying their best to protect all residents. I am assuming cleaning staff also didn't wear masks also. I had stayed in another hotel and visited another restaurant in Cavan and noticed how all staff were wearing face coverings.

Hi Niamh Many thanks for your recent review and thank you for choosing Hotel Kilmore. In relation to your comments regarding staff wearing face coverings, these are not mandatory in hospitality at this time and are generally used in situations where it is difficult to practice physical distancing. While there have been several studies carried out in relation to face masks, there are contrary conclusions particularly around the correct use of them in public. We have not made them compulsory for staff at this time but we have given our staff the option to wear them if the so wish. The health and safety of our guests is our number one priority and Hotel Kilmore have introduced a COVID 19 safety management system which includes enhanced hygiene, cleaning and disinfection, staff training and health checks as well as physical distancing. We are however reviewing our policies on a regualr basis and if we feel at any point that the introduction of face coverings will benefit our guests or staff in any way, we will give them further consideration. I greatly appreciate your comments and will most certainly bring them up at our next meeting. I do hope to welcome you back again at some point in the future. Kind Regards Paul Henry

On the sixth of January, we decided to celebrate the last day of Christmas in our local hotel, the hotel Kilmore Cavan, with two scones and two coffees. We have been coming here for many years as we live in Cavan town. The general manager approached my partner and told him that our type of business wasn’t wanted because we leave too big a mess. The source of this humongous, unacceptable mess was our active two year old. We have been coming here with her since she was tiny, in fact we celebrated her christening here. Actually, when I was pregnant, I remember we sat in the lobby eating our scones and drinking our coffee while we rang family members to tell them we were having a girl. She was born extremely prematurely and it was the first place we brought her when she was released from hospital. We have attended many functions in this hotel from Christmas parties to communions. Food was never great, which is why we rarely eat there but staff were lovely, friendly and always made us and our child feel welcome. At least, they use too, things have change recently. We had noticed but kept going because so many memories were tied up with this hotel.
On the sixth, the general manager approached my partner near the entrance while I was ordering our scones and coffee. He told my partner that our business wasn’t wanted like we were scum of the earth. I asked if he was serious because I just couldn’t believe it. He told me that we made a bigger mess than we would leave in our own homes and it was going on too long, whatever that means. As I said, we generally order coffee and scones, when it is quiet. We do not sit in the corner drinking cans and smoking fags, throwing our empty cans and fag butts over our shoulders as this man made us feel we do. We prefer a quiet time when few are around and usually leave when this hotel is too busy, as it often is. Nobody, deserves this treatment but we are the most ordinary of people just a local couple with one small child.
I was so upset, my hands were shaking and I cried nearly all day. I couldn’t sleep thinking about it. I fervently hope nobody else ever has to suffer this treatment over a couple of coffees and a scone consumed by two adults and a toddler, in a hotel that hosts weddings, christenings, communions and a multitude of large events. Apparently, my amazing child, who was born three months early, is so spectacular she leaves a bigger mess than the one left by any of these huge events.

Me and my sisters stayed here for one night. The hotel is fabulous, rooms really spacious and they supplied great extras like water in the room, shower caps and shower gels etc. The TV was a smart TV so brilliant for kids. The only fault I would have with the hotel was when we ordered our first drink we were waiting 30 mins for it, eventually went into bar to be told it was only table service which I understand in the current climate but we had ordered and knew they had forgot about us. We got that drink and paid for it but when ordered the next one when my sister paid she was charged for the two rounds although one was paid for already. The staff were really nice though and gave us another drink then and apologised. Food at dinner and breakfast was lovely and very quick. One thing we did find strange as well was they ran out of the drink my sister was drinking which for a hotel we found very weird but nobodies fault really. Then at night it was very very noisy. The people in the room beside us (who sounded to just be teenagers and children in the room) were really really loud from like 5 or half 5 in the morning, shouting and roaring at each other and running up and down the hall. Again not the hotels fault but just some people need to be more considerate of other people. Over all lovely hotel, lovely staff, will stay again.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel. The staff were very friendly (particularly the restaurant staff) and the rooms were lovely (we had one of the newly refurbished rooms). The beds were super comfy and we had a lovely nights sleep. Just a couple of negatives.... the bar food was very nice but €32 for a t bone steak with one side order is rather expensive. I’ve never really been a fan of hotel breakfasts in general and I know that they had to change how they serve breakfast since they reopened but unfortunately the breakfast was only ok. There isn’t table service but there’s a buffet style set up with the fry and the chef serves the food to you. The food is still sitting there for a while under heated lamps so I found the sausages were dry and the potato farls greasy and tasteless, the pastry’s are also soggy because they are packaged in plastic and sitting in a warm restaurant so they are sweating in their plastic wrapping. These are only minor negatives as the good definitely outweighed the bad. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

When you drive up to the hotel itself you will witness the grounds and lawns are beautiful and impeccably maintained.
This immediately gives you a great first impression, which carries through to the interior of the hotel. The foyer in my opinion was a little dated but when you entered the corridor, it was amazing. We were taken care of by Tara, who was very helpful and extremely pleasant and attentive.
When we got to the room, we were delighted to see how clean, bright and fresh it was. Top marks to the interior designer there. We had food in the bar which was perfectly edible and tasty but with no Wow factor unfortunately. Sleep quality was not great for me, 1 pillow not enough and two pillows had me with a pain in my neck for the day. The mattress wasn’t the best I have ever slept on but I think I was so tired I could have slept on a table.
Overall impression was great and yes I actually would go back and bring my own pillow the next time. Staff were all great and very helpful. One young lady had the unfortunate task of getting us another duvet and other bits and pieces and she was buzzing around the hotel, happy in her job. Didn’t catch her name. We had breakfast brought to the room and it was very enjoyable.
We will be back.

We spent two night in Hotel Kilmore on August Bank holiday weekend with our children aged 1 and 4.
The Hotel is lovely and modern with beautiful gardens. Our room was on the first floor and faced the back of the hotel which was perfect as it was extremely quiet. There are rooms on the ground floor which face a lovely courtyard but I would have found that too noisy for us. The room was spotless and all the staff we dealt with was very helpful and friendly. Shame the hotel does not have a swimming pool, but either than that we found it fabulous. Definitely recommended it.

We stayed recently and had interconnecting rooms in the new part of the hotel. They were brilliant. I do know the old part of the hotel used to be pretty bad, and the saloon style doors to the en-suite were an epically bad part of the room. The hotel is the best place for a family get together.

The room we stayed in did have these style of doors and your right it is off putting. I think I mentioned in my review. Nice hotel otherwise.
