Thanks to Patrick, Carrigaholt’s unofficial Ambassador & resident Postmaster, we were able to find the magnificent Green Acres Caravan & Camping Park - nearby (up to 6k qualifies as nearby in these parts), down an ‘unidentified Road’ in ‘Downtown Doonaha’. Thanks to Niall, the site owner, for recommending that we should dine in the Long Dock, in nearby Carrigaholt (see earlier definition of nearby, above). Lovely, friendly people, 5 * park, close (as in 100m) to the Shannon Estuary. As the night wore on, and the storm increased, either the Estuary seemed to get closer to us, or we seemed to get closer to the Estuary. If it’s great place in a storm, what must it be like when the weather is fine. A gem of a place.
My husband and I rented a mobile home from Niall for a week in early September, just when the schools had opened and the site was quiet and peaceful. The two bedroom mobile was located near the reception area. it was very clean and functional with a mixture of laminate and vinyl flooring in the living area. There was a small 12 inch screen tv but we decided to bring our own tv with us and that worked out well. The mobile was cosy but as it was September we did need the heat at night time and it was fine. We were delighted to have our own decking and picnic bench outside the unit and a very clean and dry concrete area for car parking.... a bonus! The site is tarmaced throughout and therefore always clean during wet weather. We had a lovely view of the Shannon Estuary too. The site is located in a very remote rural area so it's naturally peaceful, quiet and relaxing for guests. It doesn't have WIFI. Niall was very helpful, offering advice and tips about the area and a very hospitable host. It is important to stock up on supplies for this location as the nearest shops are in Kilkee and they aren't great. We stocked up in Kilrush on route as it has Tesco, Aldi and Supervalu. Don't miss the walk to the nearby sandy beach (directions from Niall). Kilkee is about 12km away. A walk on the Kilkee cliffs is a must. A drive to Loop Head is very worthwhile though the lighthouse is closed for the 2020 season.…
We booked here for one night but stayed 2 nights. Was a great spot. Owner was so friendly and helpful with his tip on what to do and see. Camp-site was so clean with great views. Go here, you'll love it.
Lovely place to stay, Niall, the owner was very hospitable and friendly and selected a great camp site for us. The site is well serviced. I would highly recommend a visit to Greenacres. Thanks for the stay.
Lovely spot right next to the Shannon estuary, nice and quiet, great place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Has everything you need toilets, showers, kitchen area, washing machines, tumble dryers which are all very clean. Will definitely be going back! Thank you Niall for making our stay a great one, true gentleman!
