We were only in Kilkee for one night and booked The Strand for our evening meal.
We had a nice table by the window with a lovely view of the beach and the harbour.

The staff were all young women who were very friendly and very pleasant to chat with one of whom is owners daughter.

It was a couple of weeks ago so I cannot reach exactly what we had, the starters were good and I know I had the seabass for mains which was very nice. My Other Half I think had Fish & Chips. The chips we had were very good, clean, freshly cooked in clean oil unlike the fries we had in various places over the previous week.
The only poor element were the vegetable side dishes, limp, tasteless and over cooked. They had all the appearance of being left overs from lunch and just re-heated for the evening service.

Overall a very nice meal with friendly service with just one negative .

We have just came back after the most beautiful stay in this fab guest house. I couldn't rate it enough. It is family run and they literally can't do enough for you. We had our 2 year old daughter with us who has multiple allergies and they were super in easing our minds with safe foods. The food is exceptional we ate breakfast and dinner there and I have to say it's probably the nicest we have had. If you are heading to kilkee this and looking for top service with both food and kindness this is definitely the place to book. The views are also stunning and an added bonus. Thank you Soo much Johnny and Caroline for making our stay cation one we won't forget.

Lovely guest house with a great location and view of the bay. The staff, friendly and efficient a credit to Johnny and Caroline. Good Covid-19 protocol all round too. The room was clean, comfortable and had all the amenities and the view just perfect. Breakfast was good and the dinner was fabulous. The starter, main and dessert faultless. The wine list is small but a very good selection. Over all a lovely 2 days, thank you Johnny. A revisit is a must.

Had early dinner with my wife on her birthday. Extensive menu with additional specials on the night. Staff were helpful and friendly. Spacious restaurant and nice space between all tables. We had really nice table overlooking the strand.

I have been to the strand many times over the years and have indeed recommended it to my family who have stayed here in the past and we have celebrated many occasions here. So as it was our wedding aniversary we booked a table here to celebrate. We booked a window seat and on arrival were ushered into the bar area instread of the main restaurant were we were given a window seat. However we had booked the restaurant and when asked if we could be moved we were told that the area was full and reserved for other guests. We got up and left as the bar was noisy and not what we had booked. I felt that we were treated with indifference. There are many other restaurants in kilkee which would make you more welcome so I would not advising anyone to eat here again

Response from Johnnykilkee, Owner at The Strand Seafood Bistro and Guesthouse
Responded 3 Aug 2012
To whom it concerns, We at the Strand are both concerned and amazed by your review of your stay with us.. First of all to suggest for one second that my wife would use "language" at your child is utterly preposterous and we take offence by you accusation!! we have 4 children of our own and never would we even think about using "language" towards them not to mind one of our guests !! As for your suggestion that our seafood is"reheated" I can tell you that I am the chef here and that this does not and would not ever happen as I pride myself on daily delivered and freshly cooked fish . As for building works on going well this is part of your story is true but only between 9pm and 5 pm and sure life must go on !! Johnny Redmond

I was unlucky enough to visit this establishment during my stay in Kilkee. On entering the bar we were told go to the restaurant for food so walked over there only to be told that because we were only getting soup to go back to the bar. The barman was rude when I asked where would we sit as some tables were reserved. We finally sat down ordered our soups & a kids meal. I asked a waitress for the wifi password and they kept giving me the wrong code I left it off we were there to eat so wasn't too bothered got our soups with no brown bread we assumed they don't give it with soup (which is €7 so you would think it would be included) until a couple at the next table got a huge basket of a selection of breads with their soups I called the waitress who said oh I forgot it. We were finished our soups at this stage so when I went up to pay I mentioned it to the girl at the till who called the manager who told me brown bread was complimentary when you order a dinner which made no sense at all I pointed out that the couple next to us got it with their soup but she just kept repeating its complimentary so I paid the full bill without argument cause I felt I wasting my time with this idiot who seemed to just keep repeating herself over and over again. Not sure if she owns the place or is just the manager but nobody with that kind of attitude should be allowed work in any establishment that deals with the public. I might also add we were dressed really well so its not like we arrived on in a tracksuit we thought maybe it was because we had a child with us we just couldnt think what would cause a place of business to be so rude to paying customers and it was a costly the food was actually awful too to top it all off an all round bad experience. Asked around the town and heard afew bad stories from others about the place too. We actually didn't go outside the door all day the next day it really put us off Kilkee until our visit to The Pantry afew days later where my faith in human kind was restored.

We went in for an evening drink but were met by a young man probably manager adressing staff in a very inpolite manner...this I know is sometimes necessary but when he turned to serve me his attitude did not improve. We waited a while for our drinks, when I paid he did not make any attempts to engage with me. It was a nice cold pint of Guinness. The decor was beautiful and the location is perfect overlooking the bay.

Extremely small room, old and antiquated furniture & facilities, the restaurant is stated to be open in ads but it wasn't and the walls are extremely paper thin. The bed was as hard as a rock and hurt our backs. The room was dirty and the town itself presents absolutely no reason to go there. There are no restaurants or bars open after about 6 pm.
My suggestion to travelers is to stay in Killarney. We stayed the night before at the Killarney Spa Hotel and it was great. There's plenty of bars, restaurants and shops all around that hotel in Killarney. It is worth the extra 30 mile drive and not put yourself through the misery which Kilkee will put you through.

Ok.... first of all, I am going to say, I stayed here last year, and loved the location, so I booked a room this year while I was here in Ireland. Unfortunately, the night I booked the hotel for, we wouldn't have arrived until late in the evening, so I called the owner, and asked if I could move my reservation to the following evening. He told me no problem. Ok, so we rearranged our plans and thought wverything was good. The next morning, the owner called me right away, to tell me things changed, and he accidently overbooked, but he got me a room at the Kilkee Townhouse behind his place. So now we are in some random B&B that I never ever would have wanted to stay in. AND paying the same price for NO oceanview, NO restaurant, No bar. It SUCKS. I'm SO unhappy here, we are going to leave at 3am, just so we can get to our next destination sooner.

So bottom line, have a Backup plan, in case this guy overbooks.
