You will travel a long way to see can you find a better location with such friendly staff who were so attentive to all our requests and needs. The food is excellent and fairly priced for what you get. to sit in the drawing room having pre dinner drinks and discussing the menu just makes it all so comfortable and relaxing, nothing is rushed. We ordered from the drawing room and when food was ready the waiter came took our drinks and got us seated on one of the lovely big tables with spotless white linen table coverings. The food arrived quickly and everything we had over our two nights here was just delicious and there was nothing we could complain about, it was perfect. There was always a staff member close by should we need anything and you could tell they loved working there as they spoke so proudly about everything and they went out of their way to make sure we loved it as much as them. After dinner we retired back to one of the drawing rooms to finish our drinks and just relax and savour the peacefulness and atmosphere. Our room was particularly big with 4 poster bed and lots of antique furniture in it giving a real old world feel to it but it was so comfortable you felt so relaxed and sorry you didn't book it for longer. There was a very comfortable sitting room off it also with a TV that never got turned on as reading, relaxing switching off were the only things one needed to do. The bathroom was gorgeous too, big stand alone bath and separate large shower with lovely towels and toiletries provided. Next morning breakfast was so relaxed and choices were excellent too. I don't know which was the stand out feature but when you get great location, friendly efficient staff along with amazing food you just know you will be returning on more than one occasion.

This is an old fashioned, but very comfortable, family run hotel set in large garden and within 5 minutes walk to the sea lock shore ( the shore is nice to see, but there is no real path for walking along the shore). It is set well away from any roads and as such is very quiet. It also has a large car park.
The hotel has only 15 bedrooms. Ours was large, 20ftx20ft furnished with very comfortable bed, two arm chairs and a table. All of the furniture in the room was in keeping with the age and style of the building, large wardrobe, but not built in.
The hotel has two guest lounges (log fires on cold evenings) and a television room. Considering the number of guests, the dining room is very large with good sized tables and lots of room between each one. If you like the modern, cafe style of eating, with lots of noise, then this is NOT for you. The food is excellent (some of the vegetables and fruit from their own kitchen garden) and the ambiance very relaxed. The staff are superb and the whole thing has an air of relaxed, friendly attentiveness and efficiency.
The food is priced around 25% more than local restaurants (where we found the quality sometimes questionable), but the table is yours for the evening so there is no rush to get you out and nothing appears to be too much trouble for the staff. After the meal one has the choice of retiring back to the lounge if desired.
Overall we had a superb stay.

If you enjoy characterful rooms, period features and the personal touch, then look no further than Castle Grove. Set in stunning grounds with views of Lough Swilly and far from the madding crowd, peace and tranquility abounds at this charming property, with roaring log fires to relax by in the winter months.
The bedrooms are large and beautifully decorated with very comfortable beds and well appointed bathrooms.
As for the staff, they are so kind and nothing is too much trouble, making us feel totally pampered.
Dining here is a delight, from the made to order breakfast to evening meal served in the sumptuous dining room. All the food is delicious and locally sourced with yummy roast vegetables from their own walled garden.
Many thanks to all the hard working staff for making our stay so special. We stayed for 3 nights in November 23 with my elderly father and also in June 23, highly recommended in both summer and winter, just delightful.

Castle Grove House is a wonderful place to stay and a great base from which to explore Donegal if you can tear yourself away from the beauty of its location overlooking Lough Swilly and warmth of welcome. This Georgian country estate, with 250 acres, will appeal on lots of levels - for the peaceful location only a few miles from bustling Letterkenny, for the history and period features, for the organic and locally grown & sourced produce and for the friendliness of the family and support team. I loved the beautifully appointed bedrooms and bathrooms, the large sash windows with shutters, the delicious and relaxed dining, drinks and the most lovely coffee in front of log fires at night. I wanted to move in! Special thanks to Eirene and Karoline Sweeney who managed to make running the house look easy!; to Mary T and Raymond Sweeney who are wonderful raconteurs and established the hotel in the 1990's and to Jacqueline for her lovely approach to all the guests and fantastic recommendations for exploring Inishowen. Nothing was too much trouble, as the number of returning guests testify. And I will be one of them.

This country hotel is really lovely. From the warm greeting at the front door, to the good-bye at the car 2 days later. The staff go out of their way to be friendly and helpful. We dined there only one of the two nights (kitchen was closed the 2nd night), but our dinner was delicious and plentiful. Breakfast is pretty much cooked to your specifications. It is a peaceful place to stay, about a 10 min drive to downtown Letterkenney should you want to explore other dining options. There are two drawing rooms to sit in while enjoying a glass of wine, a crackling fire and a good book. Very cozy, indeed.

The overall experience we had with our two night stay was delightful. You forget the idiosyncrasies which accompanied the room we had because the staff, owners of the hotel and other guests made our stay here truly unforgettable in a very good way. The food is out of this world, indeed they have many awards to prove this and they are well deserved. You feel at home in the many elegantly furnished rooms, you can sink into the many deep soft armchairs or enjoy a glass or two of wine on the patio whilst watching the sun go down and the cats playing or sunbathing. Or you can stroll down to the beach via the extensive gardens it is a true gem of a place.

What a fantastic family run hotel. I love sitting in the drawing and grand reception rooms like going back in time with fires burning . We stayed for 3 nights over New Year with our 2 daughters aged 9 and 12. The family and staff made our stay perfect and we enjoyed every minute. The food was out of this world. The service was brilliant and friendly . Nothing seemed too much . We attended the gala dinner on New Years Eve and it was superb. Drinks reception and 5 course tasting menu followed by a really good disco with local radio DJ. On New Years Day we celebrated the 90th birthday of a family member with a brilliant lunch . My father in law said it was the best fish and mash he had in a long time. Without a doubt it’s the best food in the area and we have tried all the restaurants! Both our girls are coeliacs and the care and attention taken along with provision of gluten free food including toast , cornflakes and breakfast was really good. The mains in the restaurant including gravy and soup etc are all freshly made with local ingredients including being mainly gluten free . As mentioned the rooms are old worldly but that didn’t bother us as it’s all spotless with cleaners regularly cleaning. Also there was excellent internet access which is a big plus with children. We love the setting and everything about Castle Grove. We will definitely be back to stay again soon.

We cannot say enough good things about our stay! The rooms and grounds are beautiful. Ordering dinner in the drawing room, being escorted into dining and then watching who comes in and then having evening tea back in the drawing room was a highlight each night. We would walk the grounds after dinner down to the ocean and then do a little birdwatching before dinner. The staff were warm and so attentive. It is a must stay if you are coming to Donegal and we can't wait to come back!

We recently enjoyed a 3 night stay, including breakfast, and dinner on two nights in this family run hotel. The food was fantastic, and the staff were extremely attentive, friendly and helpful. Our room and bathroom were very spacious, and overlooked the front lawn. The whole house has a feeling of calm and relaxation. It is an ideal location for exploring this part of Ireland.
We felt it was excellent value for money, and look forward to returning.

Very nice house with very comfortable beds. We were accommodated in a very nice room overlooking the water. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom had a great walk in shower and stand alone bath. Lovely touch with the Paul Costello toiletries. The dinner was nice but not the standard we had anticipated for the price. The dining room is very formal and a bit intimating as it is so quiet. Not a place to go if you are looking for lively atmosphere but somewhere that transports you back in time and makes you feel important - very Downton Abbey.
