My husband and I stayed at Majella and Martin for 7 days (16th-22nd August) and they were the best days we've ever experienced in Ireland, and this was our 5th holiday in this beautiful country. We've been to many B&B's around Ireland and have always been well treated and comfortable in each one so far, but Majella and Martin go above and beyond. We were made to feel at home, extremely warmly welcome and well looked after. They were very accommodating to our needs and most of all they made us feel very happy to be there.

On our arrival, Majella treated us to tea and cake in their living room, whilst Martin sat down and had tea with us and we enjoyed a lovely chat (which was not going to be the last time) - REAL and UNIQUE Irish welcome to their home! We were also invited to have a couple of drinks with them and friends/or other residents on two of our evenings there. This extremely pleasant couple really love what they do, and do it really lovingly.

The breakfast was delicious - my husband always looked forward to his Irish breakfast. Majella's porridge was to die for. I never tasted porridge that good! Bread were plenty and gluten-free options were available also.

Our nice room was always spotless and cleaned every single day - we also enjoyed a beautiful view from our window (which was at the front of the house). All towels were changed daily and we were never out of hot water. We could use their fridge in a seperate kitchen with dining and lounge area and could avail ourselves of tea, coffee and biscuits in the breakfast room whenever we wished.

OAKLANDS B&B is set in a strategic place, very close to the centre, shops, pubs and shopping centre (Aldi supermarket is just down the road) and to the bus station - in fact we never rented a car - we either went on foot or caught buses and trains. Although close to the centre, the house is situated in a cul-de-sac so (if like me) you were looking for a quiet place but close to all amenities, this B&B is ideal for you.

Majella and Martin have really raised the bar of B&B accommodation. It will be truly difficult for any other B&B hosts to come close to making us feel really happy, at home and welcome as they have done. We will definitely return if we visit Donegal again.

Do yourselves a favour, if you're looking for a B&B in Letterkenny, chose THIS one! :)

thank you for sharing your feedback from your stay. We appreciate your kind words. Your review is so heart-warming to read. The reason why I think my parents are so welcoming and nice to guests is because they simply have the best guests that come to stay with them. I think they’ve cracked it when it comes to figuring out what makes every guest happy: Warm welcome and cup of tea or coffee, clean and spacious rooms when shown, a listening ear to hear of your travels and wine in the evening. Honestly, my parents are just there to help with whatever you need. It’s great to read of some of the friendships they have made.

We recently stayed here, whilst attending a Birthday party, in Letterkenny. Our group was made up of three couples, all of which agreed that Majella was an excellent host, very focused on making our 2 night stay as comfortable as possible, nothing was to much trouble.
All rooms were clean and tidy and the breakfast was very tasty, generous, with a wide selection to choose from, hope to return some time.

Hosts were incredibly nice and welcoming. We stayed one night as we were passing through to travel Donegal. Location is right next to the centre of town so you can walk in for some dinner and a few drinks. The bed we stayed in was so comfortable we got the best nights sleep of our trip. The breakfast was a full Irish with all the trimmings. Highly recommended!

We were attending a wedding in a near by hotel and had booked a double room with Oakland's back at the start of June and received an email from Majella confirming our booking. Around 1 o'clock on the day of our booking I received a phone call saying that she had over booked and had no room for us. why our room? we were 2 and half hours from home and attending a wedding. Majella did offer us her sons flat but this is not what we had excepted nor did we fell happy with being further out of the town or on premises on our own and having to travel the next morning for breakfast! on the phone quite sharp - "if you want the room come as soon as possible because I have to leave this afternoon"!. we were very disappointed in how this was handled as we had booked so far in advance and for an occasion! I know mistakes can happen but 1 o'clock on the day is not fair, I am sure they would not like us to have cancelled that late! when we called back and said we would get sorted she was relived more so for herself and was off the phone in 2 seconds and never asked how we were sorted etc! (bank holiday weekend in the south we had to wait and see if any hotels had cancellations which was late in the evening, we were looking at a drive home after the wedding but luckily enough we got a call for a twin room but had to pay dearer! we were very unsettled at our friends wedding due to what was going on!) after all the great reviews we had read about oaklands we are sorry to have made the above comments but this was our experience! please double check all bookings so you are not left high and dry like us!

We stayed here for 1 night on our 17 night trip around Ireland, and it was the worst by far of all the places we stayed in. We had reserved a room here several months in advance based on the Tripadvisor reviews. We were very surprised to find an overwhelming, terrible mold/mildew smell coming from the bathroom. We tried to open a window in the bedroom, but the cord to the blinds was broken. We found a way to prop them open, but then found that the mechanism to hold the window open was broken, so we went outside and found a stick to prop the window open. Unfortunately, the open window did nothing to help with the bad smell coming from the bathroom. There was a shoulder-height gaping hole in the shower wall where pipes come through the wall, and the safety bar in the shower was coming off the wall. Water penetrates into the gaping hole in the shower wall, the safety bar mounts, and several other uncaulked areas. I hate to think of how much mold and mildew has built up inside the walls. From the strong odor, it must be a lot. There was a tiny TV mounted on the wall over at one end of the bedroom, which made it difficult to view. Wifi was adequate. The hostess was wonderful, as was the breakfast she prepared. However, we strongly do not recommend this B&B due to the mold & mildew problem. If it was not so late when we checked in, we would have refused to stay here and looked for another place to stay. I cannot understand why there are not more bad reviews of this place. I can only assume that some rooms are much better than others. We were in room #7.

It is very regrettable that you did not enjoy your stay with Oakland's Bed & Breakfast and only wish you highlighted the issue while you were in our home. We would have immediately remedied the situation by accommodating you in one of our other fine rooms. While there was clearly an issue, it only became apparent upon your departure which is why works are now underway to refit the bathroom and new blinds installed. As with any well tuned engine, it is inevitable (but regrettable) that things break down from time to time but we have listened to you and have taken immediate actions to address issues pointed out.

Oatlands B & B is located at the end of a cul de sac on a housing development. It is just over 1/2 mile into the centre of Letterkerry and you can easily walk into town which takes about 15 minutes. Letterkenny is hilly. Martin & Majella are prefect hosts and are both extremely helpful with where to go, what to see and where to eat in the town and surrounding area. We had room 2 which was on the small side but perfectly adequate though the shower room/ toilet was tiny. We did mention this to our hosts when we left and they advised that there were going to enlarge it after the summer season. The only other issue was that there are not enough chairs to go around if all the guests arrive at the same time for breakfast as what happened to us on our last morning when we were the last to arrive. But again Martin & Majela swiftly sorted out the problem and moved us into the residents lounge where we had a lovely breakfast on our own. The breakfast were superb with any number of cooked breakfast options. The room was clean, the Internet worked very well and the hosts charming.

I visited Letterkenny to attend a graduation ceremony at LYIT and Oaklands B&B was very close by, which made it a great place to stay, as it was within very easy walking distance. Majella was very kind and welcoming when I first arrived. I had originally booked the single room for the night, but ended up leaving around 10:30pm after I got back from the ceremony, as my friend (who I surprised with my visit) wanted me to stay with her instead. Even though I didn't actually stay the night, I really enjoyed the hospitality of the B&B. It was a nice place for me to check-in, shower up, and relax with some TV until I had to leave to go to the ceremony. The free wifi was also very much appreciated. Definitely would book here if I'm ever in the area again.

We stayed one night and could not wait to leave. The place was very dirty. It looked like nothing had been vacuumed in months. The window in our room was broken so we could not leave it open. They had one hairdryer which was on a table in the hall. In the morning we did not have any hot water. We were told they had a full house so everyone must have used it all. With the place so dirty we did not try the hot breakfast, we just wanted to get out. If you need a place to stay drive 20 minutes to Derry a much more viberant town.

It is very regrettable that you did not enjoy your stay with Oakland's Bed & Breakfast. While I appreciate your feedback which will help us to continue to offer the highest standards in hospitality, I have to refute the accusation of the home being 'dirty' as we take great pride in our family home. I would like to acknowledge the lack of availability of hot water. Upon reviewing trip advisor, it did become apparent that there was an issue with the hot water supply which we immediately investigated and resolved. I would like to point out that the issue was not brought about by guests using all the hot water but rather a plumbing irregularity. Our guests are at the heart of all that we do and while we strive to provide a warm, friendly and welcoming home for our guests to enjoy we acknowledge and appreciate that we can not be everything to everyone. While there was clearly an issue with the hot water system during your stay we would like to remedy the unfortunate instance should you wish to contact us directly, Slán go fóill
