Had a lovely stay in this modern B&B. The food was very good, the room very pleasant and the hosts great. Loved the mischevious Labrador. Jodi

we stayed here for four nights. we wanted to do some hiking in the barrens and take some day trips from here. unfortunately it rained much of our stay and we had change our plans. Annette was very helpful in suggesting other activities we could do. One was Coole park in Gort. Great museum and beautiful grounds with many long walks you could do in the rain because of the dense forest. Loughrask Lodge is secluded in the country. We did walk to town for dinner and the pups but the narrow road made it a bit scary! Annette and Joseph's have a beautiful home and our room was very nice. Breakfast was good and there was tea and fruit in the dinning room at all times. There was no tv or internet, but we were too tired to do much but read and go to bed. We did take some day trips from here but the narrow roads kept us from doing as much as we would have liked. We encountered many tour buses on the way to the Cliffs of Mohr. We enjoyed our stay.

The first B&B we stayed in on our eight day tour of the western coast. Very hospitable and welcoming. Room was nice, shower was awesome. No internet or tv which all others had. Beautiful views.

My wife and I were on our way to the area in our rented car, when we booked this B&B online. We only booked one night, as we were unsure of the accomodations and the attractions in the area. We were in the middle of our vacation and our plan was to tour the areas of Ireland that interested us and make accomodations as we went, rather than book well in advance.

When we arrived about dinner time, we were greeted by Annette and her two dogs, Goldie and Roxie. She showed us to our room and it was fantastic. The room is one of 4 for rent in the upstairs part of the Flanagans' home. Annette and her husband and son live in the downstairs part of the home. The home sits in the most bucolic of areas near Ballyvaughan in County Clare. The view from our bedroom window was of the bay (my term) west of Galway, with a house in the foreground and a small herd of Limousine cattle in the pasture just in front. The burren provides the backdrop in the view to the south, west and east. If you are looking to stay within driving distance of many tourist sites but don't want the noise and bustle of a city, this place is perfect. One thing to note is that Annette does not have the ability to accept credit cards and only accepts cash, although you can secure the room online with a credit card.

When we first met Annette, we were not overwhelmed by her friendliness and outward warmth, but very soon we knew that she was one of the best. She asked us to indicate what time we would like breakfast and asked us to choose from several traditional breakfast choices. She explained that she wanted to have it ready to prepare for us, in order that we would not wait too long in the morning. Because it was such a great location and the room was so spacious and welcoming, we decided that we wanted to use this as a base for our day trips to the surrounding area. We decided that evening that we wanted to stay for another night and Annette was happy to accomodate us.

When we came down for breakfast, Annette went about preparing it after inviting us to partake of the continental portions of bread, jams, butter, yogurts and cereals. While we were waiting for our hot breakfasts, we enjoyed fresh coffee and juices and hot toast from Annette's kitchen. One of the other guests had ordered porridge (oat meal) and then discovered that she could not eat it because of the milk used to prepare it. Annette took it in stride and offered it to us. I am not one to turn down good, home-cooked food, so I ate it while waiting for my Irish Fry breakfast. Of note, the other guests were a couple of young ladies who had rather special requests due to dietary restrictions. They had not made that clear the night before on the "order sheet", but Annette had no issue with the changes they requested that morning.

After spending a while visiting with Annette and the other guests, my wife and I were off on our daily adventure. Upon returning that evening, Annette and the dogs greeted us and that is when Annette's personality revealed itself. We stood in the foyer for some time and enjoyed a lively conversation with her while my wife tried to entice Roxie to play with her. We soon felt Annette could be a long-lost cousin that we were re-connecting with after decades of no contact. She was such a pleasure to spend time with that we decided to ask for a third night, to which Annette was agreeable. Not only did Annette treat us like family for the three nights we stayed, she even offered to do our laundry one day, while we were out exploring the area.

Our stay in Loughrask Lodge was as good as any and better than most of our choices while in Ireland. As a matter of fact, it was as good as any my wife and I have had in our 25 years of traveling together. Although, this home is away from the larger population centers, there are many places of interest within a few minutes' drive and plenty of pubs and small eateries to partake of.

Our family of 4 stayed in their family room while visiting the Cliffs of Mohar and Aillwee cave. Annette gave us a very warm welcome and the room was perfect. Very clean with comfortable beds and an en-suite with shower. Breakfast was delicious.
We have a fussy eater but Annette went into town especially on Sunday morning to pick up something for her to eat. Couldn't ask for a better host.
I would recommend staying here if visiting the west of Ireland.

It was a particularly windy and chilly night when my best friend and I arrived. We were looking forward to resting after a long day. Instead, we were greeted by Annette, who did not look like she was expecting us. Apparently, she had double booked where we booked on the website and she booked someone at the same time and didn't have time to go into the system to change/update things.
Where as we appreciated her having set us up with the Hylands Burren Hotel, she never contacted us about the change (my friend's contact info was available to her, so no excuse). We found out upon arrival (good thing we did not carry our bags in). She was apologetic but we could not help but wonder why we were not contacted BEFORE arrival.
It was a huge disappointment and inconvenient to have to go back into the dark and find the hotel. Thankfully, the breakfast was included with the room at the hotel since we had already paid for the reservation.
I rated this place poor for the poor service we received!!

Response from aflanagan77, Owner at Loughrask Lodge Bed and Breakfast
Responded 14 May 2016
I am so sorry that you felt this way, I brought you in to my home rather than tell you over the phone as I wanted to tell you both face to face that there had been a mistake with the booking. I did however reserve a room at the lovely Hylands Burren Hotel which is only 3 mins car journey from my home with any extra cost incurred by me. Please try to understand that we All are only human and mistakes are made. Thank YOU for your review.

My cousin and I happened to ride into the Loughrask Lodge as our first B&B and the bar was set very high for our trip—maybe too high, because none of the other places we stayed at lived up to it. The owners are wonderful and delightful. The breakfast (we had the continental breakfast) was perfect and the rooms were amazing. The Burren is beautiful and I wish I could have stayed longer.

I will say that WiFi would be nice, not necessary, but nice. There was a TV in the lounge to use, so no need for ones in the room!

Very quiet location with rooms situated with either a wonderful sea view or mountain view. Highly recommend this B&B. Breakfasts are cooked to order and the dining room is open for use throughout the day.

The owner - Annette helped us a lot while travelling from Galway to the Clifs of Moher and my Mother in law suffered seriously from some food poisoning followed by locomotion sickness. Annette provided us a room for the mother so she could get few hours rest. Remaining three of us spent time playing with dogs and viewing beautiful landscape. We were offered drinks and asked about other needs.
Really nice experience. Thanks again for help and hopefully see you soon on our next travel.
Milosz.
