Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Impressive looking building but this is a tired space that needs work. The breakfast was okay and the lovely young staff are a plus….but this is not a four star hotel as advertised as part of our tour. The leisure centre is great but isn’t something we value. The pillows were old, the linens are tired and scratchy and the bathroom was not good. It needs work and should not have been part of our tour that included 4 star hotels. It is a 3 star at best though we did like the lovely young staff.

We had an over 55 deal that included a 2 course dinner on both nights. The food (breakfast and dinner) was delicious. The hotel is on the outskirts of Oranmore, around 6kms from Galway. The staff are fabulous, friendly, smiling and happy and the beds are very comfortable I used the pool both days and would've preferred that there were no children in (after 7pm?) to allow adults to swim unhindered by them jumping in and splashing around

I'd read the reviews, many of which complained that the property is dated. It is, and in a good way. It is a heritage property but relevant portions are modernized. Rooms are very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower is like a jet. The common areas reflect the history of the building as a hunting lodge. Food was good but a bit overpriced. Drinks selection was very good. Fitness centre is top-notch. Highly recommended.

Really fun charming old hotel. Feels like stepping into a lovely time machine. Comfortable rooms with a location that is private and unbeatable. Short coastal drive to Galway. Lovely morning walk to the water. Don't hesitate.

Left a little disappointed! Not living up to the 4stars! Rooms were tired & dated, breakfast was lukewarm and bar staff while friendly were very slow. Receptionist was very blasé…at checkout just took the key word th no comment! Can’t justify the price or the star ⭐️ rating.

Very disappointing. Guessing the 4 stars were only awarded as there is a pool adjacent to the main building. Hotel itself is no more than a 3 star. The carpark surface is badly torn up with potholes and very muddy. Room basic dull and uninspiring. No towel rails in bathroom. Beds hard. No welcome pack provided in the room. Extremely understaffed at breakfast, a young staff under extreme pressure clearly badly managed. We waited 40mins for our order to be taken... Breakfast and Bar food is good. Waiting staff were pleasant. Room cleaning service is good. Our request for extra towels and pillow was met. The hotel is clean. Upon check out we were NOT asked if we enjoyed the stay or everything was ok. We were given the bill, we paid and received a "bye now" !!! Customer service needs improvement on the front desk. Basically this hotel is neither cheap nor cheerful we will not be back and cannot recommend Oranmore Lodge.

This is a very nice hotel just a short walk from downtown Oranmore. The room was large, updated, and clean…bathroom too. The hotel is not expensive…great value. Bar staff and wait staff were attentive and nice and there was live entertainment in the bar. We would stay here again.

So I’m not one to write reviews or be a "Karen" but I think my experience with Oranmore Lodge deserves to be shared. I "had" a reservation with the Oranmore Lodge for Galway races week this year but have decided to cancel it over 2 experiences I had with this hotel before I even stayed at the property. 1. Security Breach - a third party individual managed to amend my booking without my knowledge or consent. I was first alerted by receiving an email confirmation that my booking had been changed. Over an hour later I discovered the booking had been amended by an individual who was meant to be staying with another group of friends at a different premises in Galway but their plans had changed. I rang the hotel to alert them that this amendment wasn’t done by me and asked them to please ensure going forward any changes to the booking was requested by me or by individuals that made the booking. Most hotels I’ve stayed with previously all ask the question “ Am I speaking with the person who made the reservation”. So I asked the hotel that they ask a security question like can I have the mobile or email address associated with this booking (something this individual wouldn’t have). I spoke to 2 lovely girls that day that were more than apologetic. All was fine and I was happy thinking all was sorted. 2. Today (two weeks later) I checked my emails and noticed I hadn’t received confirmation that the booking had been reverted back as requested. I rang the hotel and got in contact with James “The Manager”. When I explained the situation to him, he got hostile and rude down the phone, accusing me for this situation happening. I advised him that maybe the staff should ask a security question like “Is this the person who made the booking” or “Can you confirm the email address/mobile used”, suggestions which James snubbed. He confirmed the amendment and hung up the phone. Overall I am extremely disappointed with this establishment and ended up cancelling my reservation over the carry on with James this morning. I acknowledge this was a weird situation which they probably haven’t dealt with the likes before but they handled this all wrong. Looks a lovely spot from the photos, there is a few mixed reviews about the place (rude staff being one… ). There is plenty fine hotels around Galway and would suggest people check them out before looking at The Oranmore Lodge. If Oranmore Lodge management see this, please look at updating security measures and maybe have a word with James about his customer service skills…

Response from Padraig Nolan, General Manager at Oranmore Lodge Hotel
Responded 30 Jul 2023
Amelia 1973 Thank you for sharing this review of our property. I have investigated your review thoroughly and your version of events are very much at odds with that our the various highly regarded and professional employees of our hotel. I would advise that in future if you do not wish your friend to tag along with you, you do not share your booking details with them. I believe the misunderstanding is with you and your friend rather than with you and Oranmore Lodge Hotel, Over the course of Galway Races 2023 we will extend a warm welcome to our guests and patrons, some loyal to the hotel for the past 40years. We will continue to provide the best of Irish food and warm hospitality, something you would have experienced had you decided to keep your reservation with us. In any case I wish you good luck and good fun at Galway Races 2023.
