Detailed Reviews
Overall nice hotel with good sea view from our room.
Pros - the young girl that served us breakfast was so lovely and polite - a credit to the establishment. Breakfast was very good and great choice.
We had our dinner in the hotel and the curry was tasty and again good service.
Powerful shower but let down by the lack of toiletries provided (the body wash wasn’t the best) I had forgotten my own.
Room basic but beds comfortable and suited our needs.
Cons - a €200 breakage deposit seems a bit extreme and up to 3 working days for it to be returned.
Parking for hotel residents should be free particularly when off road is free in the evenings and Sundays.
I was also charged €8 for a coffee and OJ even though I told the staff member that I had breakfast included. I like to have a morning coffee before sitting down to eat.

We stayed during one of the busiest period for Irish hospitality (first Saint Patrick's in 2 years) and we had an amazing experience. The hotel is very beautiful, the original architecture of the building - which used to be Oscar Wilde's home - was preserved and the bespoke decoration suits the general atmosphere. Our breakfast was included and we got a full menu to chose from, every meal was freshly prepared and very tasty. The Caffee Vergano has a real Italian coffee machine. The staff was lovely and very professional. Our bedroom had a sea view even though we didn't pick the option while booking! The shower in the bathroom was probably one of the best shower we have seen whilst staying in a hotel. Overall, we are very impressed with the value and quality of our stay, we can't wait to come back already.

Lovely room and beds so comfortable with plenty of pillows and cushions. Breakfast was delicious, served promptly by delightful staff - without the normal noisy environment that you find in many hotels. Location was excellent and complimentary tea/coffee on arrival was a welcoming touch.

My sister and her partner booked their sons Communion in this Venue. They went and viewed the property with a member of staff and agreed on an area and price for a Communion and booked for food for the party also.
They organised decorations to arrive on the day and when the balloon lady arrived she was told her Stand Alone Decorations were not allowed on the premises and to remove them. Why advertise that you take all sorts of parties and not allow any decorations! The Manager also told the Balloon lady to put away The Sweet Table my Brother In Law set up that morning so when they arrived with the children the sweet treats were no where to be seen! This was basically a few jars of sweets and packets of crisps etc - nothing that would damage a table! They had to pay an extra €100 cash to have the sweets set out on the table which is just a money scam in my opinion!! extra cash straight into his pocket!! Not once when taking the booking did they advise my sister she wasnt allowed have balloons or jars of sweets on the tables!! This is a basic standard for anyone throwing a party! they werent gluing banners to walls these decorations wouldnt have affected the property in any way. The manager phoned my sister and verbally abused her down the phone telling her to remove everything out of the premises or he’ll do it for her in an aggresive manner! Shouting at customers is rude and disgusting i dont understand how he is allowed to deal with clients at all with how he handles things!
The Arrogant Manager told them that he didnt care about the €350 they paid he “wouldnt piss on 350 euro” and to “take their money and leave” his words not mine!!! Absolutely disgusting language to use towards a customer who booked and invited guests to this venue.
Unable to take the children and guests anywhere else we were forced to stay in this venue feeling awkward and unwanted on what should have been a very special day!! The manager proceeded to abuse anyone walking in and out of the party questioning where they were going. The children were sitting infront of the tv watching the football and the manager turned the tv off on them and said the children shouldnt have been allowed in the venue around alcohol yet they have a BILLBOARD sized sign outside on the side if the building advertising that they cater for Communions, Christenings and other events!
My sister is heavily pregnant, due her baby in a matter of days and was verbally abused by the manager to the extent that she was so upset and stressed she was crying. Treating a lady in her condition like this is absolutely disgusting he should be ashamed of himself!!! He ruined the day for everyone after treating customers so horribly. Avoid this venue they dont deserve anyones business after how this so called Manager treated the many guests that were at the party yesterday.
He was also witnessed chasing a couple down the road shouting at them outside accusing them of not paying their bill which is defamation and embarrassing for anyone to have to experience of a busy sea front. these people werent part of our party but its just another example of how horrendous this manager is and why he does not deserve anyones business!!

My wife and I were booked to stay and arrived to find the town shut down for an air show. No access was possible and no parking options in town. Nobody thought to warn us in advance.
On calling the hotel staff confirmed there was no way we could get to hotel or park in town. As a result we had to pay £200 for a room in a nearby town.
Hotel refused to refund any of our fully pre paid room despite the circumstances. Beware.

Hi Very unfair review. We were not responsible for any traffic restrictions imposed during the airshow. We can’t be responsible for you not be prepared. There was parking available nearby that you did not avail of. Parking was a short walk from the hotel and you were informed of this.

Expensive and poor experience.
Liked · Location was great.
Disliked · The socket where you put the card to get the light on was broken. The guy at the reception came to fix with sellotape. The tv was another issue as it wasn't connected to the hotel WiFi and had to call the receptionist to fix it. I had to use my own login for Netflix. The room have marking and could do with a fresh paint job. Also the main door is closed after hours and you will need to ring the bell to get it opened. For two hundred euros without breakfast was disappointing. The guy at the reception wanted me to pay parking when parking is free after 7pm and free on Sunday. Gap in the door and could hear the next guest coming in and out of their room. Room is very small and toilet is very tiny.

The Location is excellent with beautiful views & the hotel is oozing with decor and history. Nice blinds and thick curtains to block out the light and sounds! The bathroom could do with a hook behind the doors and wall to hang your wash-bag, clothes, etc, otherwise there's nowhere to hang anything!
Unfortunately it has been taken over by new management recently and this is where the positive review ends. The website claimed all rooms were unavailable yet when I checked by phone I was able to book and pay for a family room immediately. (Informed room prices change according to demand and the website price is not correct?)
I was told an email confirmation of booking would be coming shortly.
It never did.
They don't respond to the email address on the website. I have tried 3 times.
When we arrived there was confusion, we were checked into a double room instead and found some bags in the cupboard that belonged to someone else. This guest had already checked into the double room earlier and gone out. She was very upset and annoyed to found she had been kicked out when she returned that evening and we felt quite rude to have taken her room although not our fault.
She was then given the Family Room that we should have had; making myself, the wife and baby try to fit into tiny room and bed!
The next day we were given the Family Room at last.
There was no gluten free breakfast available - a bag of crisps was offered!!!
It has taken exactly one whole week to get a correct invoice for the dates we stayed for my business expenses. Continually explaining either by email or numerous phone calls when we stayed over and over, it beggars belief. At one stage we were even asked for the reference number on the confirmation email...
Despite having my email address my name has not once been spelled correctly. At this point I find this lack of attention just rude.
I would avoid this place like the plague. The whole management haven't a clue how to run a hotel which is a shame because the hotel is excellent.

Lovely hotel and room, im not a fussy customer. This is a 4*hotel with a 3* experience. They dont do room service, even on drinks, their spanish waitress (i presume shes spanish because of her direct translation but I could be wrong) decided that barking orders at me when i came to dinner would be better than asking ne how she could help. Shout out to the young wiman with I think it was a north american accent who actually had some manners and provided excellent service.
Food was lovely at dinner, brunch was ok, omolette a bit plasticy, ill live. All in all a decent experience but for €300 for 2 people for a night with dinner and breakfast, personally, id expect a little more of a service focussed attitude, whixh is clearly lacking and if the hotel classification scheme/Failte ireland came and had a look, im sure theyd feel the same.
Ask yourself, if we are going to sownd €300 to have a night away what would we want for that? For us we want a lovely room and great service. Reception, check in, the room and the food are good, the none existent room and table service (barring the one young woman) make the experience an average one. Again, lovely place, just need to do sone training with the young american woman who is head and shoulders above everyone else there when it comes to being a decent human being.

My wife and I stayed at The Strand Hotel for one night, B&B. We arrived at the hotel and were greeted by a member of staff at the door. We gave our details and were checked in and given the key to our pre booked room. I was then informed that I would have to put ten euros into the parking ticket machine if I was parking in the car park. This covered a 24 hour stay. We were then directed to our room. The room was not that big, but was clean and had a good view of the beach area. The showerroom/toilet was small and had a frosted glass panel in the top half of the door. When using the shower you have to turn the light on to operate the fan, so no time to be shy when standing in front of the glass. The public rooms were very clean and the staff very pleasant. Breakfast was good, although the eggs benedict were served on two large/thick pieces of bread, heated rather than toasted.
On arriving home I noticed that we had left a few small items in the bathroom. I contacted the hotel and asked if some items could be posted to myself, as I lived 120 miles from the hotel, and I would pay the postage. The member of staff spoke to a senior staff member, who in an angry voice replied that this would not be done. I then told the staff member to throw the items in the bin. Electric toothbrushes etc.
My tip would be, enjoy your stay, but do not leave anything behind when you leave.

Dear William Thank you for your review and we are glad you had a good stay with us. Unfortunately, due to the COVID 19 pandemic, any items such as razors and toiletries that are left behind have to be disposed of immediately. We would never ask any of our staff to put themselves at risk. For this reason, we were unable to accommodate your request posting the items. I note that you mention leaving an electric toothbrush behind. I have spoken to our housekeeping staff and they have told me that they never found an electric toothbrush in your room.

Currently the rooms are under rennovation, hoping to have them open early next year. The bar is still open for business, so be sure to pop in for a drink or a bite to eat.
