My daughter and I had a wonderful experience staying at the Carrigeen Castle. When I called David to tell him we would be a bit later than expected, he said that was no problem. When we arrived we were greeted by Peg and shown our room. It was spacious and very clean. We visited with Peg about the hi-lights in...

Thank you, indeed, for taking to time to review our B&B home. It is wonderful to see 5-star reviews across the board for cleanliness, value, location, sleep quality, rooms and service! It is obvious you appreciated the uniqueness of our historic home and its quirkiness. Looking forward to welcoming you back in the future. The Butlers

Not worth it! The outside of the building is cool and looks like a castle. It was actually the prison associated with the main castle. Inside it is very much a normal building- nothing that says “castle”. The beds are perfectly comfortable and the breakfast is good. It was clean. But the owner was really unpleasant. We got in an...

this is the one to book. Within walking distance of town & sits on a hill with an awesome approach up the driveway. Really, it's a true medieval castle in excellent condition. Peg Butler the owner greeted us, was very informative & delightful. She runs a very tight "ship" & it shows. The rooms are immaculate & well appointed. There's...

The Carrigeen Castle is unique for a B&B with the look of a castle outside and inside. Our room was comfortable and clean though sparsely decorated. The bathroom is modern. The remainder of the castle is nicely decorated. The breakfast is served in a large room and the tables are beautifully set. The protein laden breakfast included two eggs, four...

Thank you, indeed, for taking the time to write such a nice, succinct, review of our home. We are glad that the prison castle feel was experienced, and particularly appreciate your 5star location and service reviews, and your 4star rooms, cleanliness and value feedback. The detailed recall concerning the layout, content and presentation of breakfast, the time spent conversing and...

We are an older married couple who traveled throughout Ireland for two weeks in August 2011, and Carrigeen "Castle" was the low point of our trip. First of all, Carrigeen "Castle" is not a castle. It was a jail (and still is) with a turret that makes it look like a castle. The property was well kept and the interior...

We particularly appreciate your notice of the 5star cleanliness of our home, and its good value for money. Perhaps your party made a late booking, but our website and historical leaflet which you would have received on check-in all detail the history of our prison castle home. We are delighted that you found the property was well kept and the...

We traveled via motorcycle around the countries of Ireland and Scotland for 18 days in the month of June. Our Irish friends thought our experience would be enhanced by staying one night in a castle. Lucky for us they chose the Carrigeen Castle. Immediately we were impressed by the impeccable cleanliness of the entire place. We found Peg to be...

How nice of you to take the time to post some feedback of your stay with us. We particularly appreciate your impression of the "impeccable cleanliness of the entire place." The comment "We found Peg to be very friendly, no nonsense, and welcoming" was best of all - that is how we are and, 35 years of B&B business on,...

Having read the other reviews, I was expecting an interesting stay with questionable hosts. This was definitely not the case. The hosts were very friendly, animated, and charming. We enjoyed talking to them and listening to their suggestions (though some of them seemed off the wall). The castle is perfect! The rooms and bathrooms are modernised, but it still has...

Thank you very much indeed for your most positive review, with five stars across the board - for value, cleanliness, service and service. It isn't often that such a satisfied customer takes the time to write a review and we appreciate all you said. Absolutely, the history of the prison castle is there on the website, the leaflets, everywhere. One...

As other has written before us, we thought it was a wonderful idea to spent a night in the castle. That before we discovered that it was haunted by Mrs. Peig and son. We were rejected by the son because we arrived too early (16.00) and he was busy with a meeting (???) . OK, no problem….we spent some time...

It does, indeed, take some time to navigate through this piece of prose, and I have pleasure in summarising our reply as follows: 1) This party of three persons specifically requested an 8pm later check-in, and there was no question of an early arrival, as there was much sightseeing to do at Kilkenny, Cashel and Cahir. In the event, they...

Staying for B+B in a castle is a rather rare experience and a highlight of a roundtrip through Ireland, especially at these low rates. I found good and welcoming service and very friendly and interesting conversations. If I ever come back to Cahir, which is a much nicer town than nearby Tipperary, I shall surely stay in Carrigeen Castle.

What can I say? This b&b has lots of character! Peg is as described: abrupt, opinionated, kind of mean to the maid. We were surprised how narrow the winding staircase to the upper floors was and mentioned that dragging our bags up would be fun, Peg said, "well, I'll just have the man bring your bags up." Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review noting 5star cleanliness, 3star value and 3star service. You know the way it is with these old heritage B&Bs that are in private homes - you take them as they come, owners and all. Nothing worse than another bland hotel-type B&B! The maid has to be kept on...
