Detailed Reviews
When we first arrived we felt a bit let down with our room on the third floor but the lady who was on reception on Tuesday the 22nd oct at four in the afternoon went out of her way and got us a fabulous room on the 2nd floor . We really appreciated her effort. The staff in every department couldn’t have been nicer or more helpful. We do the triple treats in the talbot hotels maybe four or five times a year but this has been our first in Clonmel and we can’t wait to come back . One tiny issue is they seem to have scraped back on the triple treat dinner menu . I know it was a blow to the hotels about the tax not been reduced but a big part of these breaks for me is the food and I would prefer to pay another €2.50 a head per meal and have a better choice in the evening meal . I found the choice of meals when you are staying for 3 nights very limited. Saying that I can’t wait to come back to The Clonmel Talbot hotel

We had a lovely weekend break as a group of 4 family couples. Hotel itself is lovely and spotless clean. We had dinner in the bar as a group and you couldn’t fault the food, good value and probably the best hotel meal I’ve had this year. Lots of lovely helpful young staff. Food at the Buffet breakfast the next morning was lovely but the dining room was a bit chaotic with tables not being cleared or only half cleared and not reset properly. We had to go in search of cutlery and condiments ourselves after been forgotten about when requested. There just seemed to be a lack of leadership and although there was plenty of staff, no one seemed to know what they should be doing, but it’s just a minor problem really. We had a room on the top floor which unfortunately have not been renovated yet. The room was very tired and dated looking and the bed was the worst bed I’ve ever slept in. It was so hard and uncomfortable that it was nearly impossible to sleep, we had 4 rooms altogether and 3 of them had awful beds. After paying over €200 a night we were a bit disappointed with the lack of comfort. We have stayed in this hotel numerous times over the years and will definitely return again but I will remember to request a renovated bedroom the next time.

Dear Camper622806, Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I appreciate your kind remarks in relation to the food, helpful staff and cleanliness of the property. The issues you encountered during breakfast are far from typical and it is something that has been addressed with the management team here to prevent a reoccurrence. The second phase of our bedroom renovations started in the last 2 weeks and we plan to have all our bedrooms fully refurbished before the end of next year. We look forward to welcoming you back for a stay in one of our brand new bedrooms. Kind Regards Stephen Whelan Operations Manager

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
This was our fourth or fifth stay and is our preferred choice of hotel in Clonmel. We changed our booking the night before for two adults to three and we spoke to William on the front desk. We were booked into one of the newly refurbed rooms on the first floor which had a double and a single bed. He very kindly assured me that there would be no extra charge for this, not even for breakfast! The new rooms are fabulous; very clean and modern. My only complaint was that the soap dispenser and shampoo in the shower were nearly empty an oversight i am sure but as we always bring our own it was not a concern. My mum got married in this hotel a few years ago and we had a meal on the Friday night to celebrate her husbands birthday. The food and service were excellent. Breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday mornings was of good quality and plentiful. My husband and daughter used the leisure facilities for the first time and they really enjoyed. We will return for sure. Great value for money.

Hotel looks great, great service, nice breakfast. Food for dinner okay but not remarkable.
Stayed in room 216 which is modern. However on first night early on heard some one next door coughing a lot and during the night heard heavy snoring through the wall. The room layout means my bed and the bed next door are against the same wall.
Next night the snorer was gone but could hear conversations of two people next door for a long period of time followed by TV noise until 1 am.
This means the room walls are not sound insulated. Looks like money for a recent revamp was spent on how the room looks as opposed to sound insulation. The walls are not soundproof.

First impressions were very good, the room looked lovely, though it wasn't quite ready for us at (3:15pm) but it was spotless and modern and the decor was very tasteful.
However, the power in the room went out twice and we suspected a faulty card reader. Upon leaving and returning to the room the card didn't work and I went to reception who stated that my phone may have wiped it, which is a nonsense excuse but she replaced the cars and reset the room.
This also failed and continued to fail over the two days, we were unbelievably asked to locate a cleaner to open the room for us whenever we were locked out, I had to go to reception numerous times to be able to have someone open our room.
We went to the Wheat bar which had great staff and good food which was nice and I do recommend.
It was a rainy night and the noise in the room from outside was so loud that we were constantly woken up, I think the windows are the originals and they do not soundproof the room at all, so if you want to stay ask for a room at the rear. When we did get to sleep the music from the breakfast area was loud enough to be heard in the room early in the morning.
So, after a pretty terrible night's sleep, (though the beds were very comfortable) we went to breakfast at around 9 am... Food that was obviously in warmers for hours dried out scrambled eggs, rock-hard bacon, the sausages were fresh, the tea and coffee was lukewarm at best and the staff were annoyed to be asked for anything. In fact the one thing my wife asked for never arrived, though a server did arrive with a vegan breakfast and when we said we didn't ask for it, (neither of us are vegan) he stated "Well a woman who looked just like you did!
Breakfast could have saved this review but it made it worse, we'd asked for a late checkout but in the end we left early.
It's a pity, you can see what they are trying to achieve and the Wheat bar is there but the hotel is certainly not. 1 Star out of five for the hotel excluding the bar. Bar 4 out of 5, only because it was understaffed.
Notes to Hotel:
Don't blame customers for faulty cards/card readers
Don't expect customers to find cleaners to access their rooms
Replace food that has dried out and become inedible
Retrain wait staff, politeness doesn't excuse bad service, especially in a room that had maybe 10 customers.

Me and my partner stayed last week, bearing in mind we don’t live far from the venue but chose to stay in the hotel as we couldn’t get transport home. Whilst the rooms are fab and the reception staff were great it was the bar staff that let this stay down. There was in our group of about 20 there was times where we were over charged for drinks, wrong drinks handed out that were ordered, I also witnessed a gentleman at the bar hand back a pint that he said he wasn’t great, that same exact pint was handed out to someone else who ordered that pint a few minutes later. There was also people in our group that weren’t drinking and at first declined coffee at the bar when ordering as was told the machine was off. Also, as hotel residents we were moved from the bar to the lobby of the hotel at 01:30 and was told the only other alcohol that we could get were bottles of wine or prosecco. It such a shame that it was the issues with the bar that let this stay down.

On arrival the reption were so welcoming and told us of places to visit nearby. When we arrived at our room on the table was a box of chocolates and a hand written card congratulating us on our 55th wedding anniversary. I think my daughter must have mentioned this when booking for us. The room, the beds and all other facilities excellent. The staff even under stress were all very friendly and great at their jobs.
The only downer of our stay was the buffet and bar/restaurant food wasn't very hot and therefore was cold halfway through eating. We did inform the manager of this and he was very apologetic and tried to resolve the issue. I would stay again, we had a most enjoyable weekend.

Went away with 6 friends we are of mixed age ,we took the "Here comes the girls "package which is good value for money . This hotel could be great it has so many good points but needs improvement just a few little things that would bring it up to 4 star which is certainlyis not
The food is lovely but the dinning room is a bit of a mess , things thrown around very sloppy, no atmosphere and an overpowering smell of fish cooking which was most unpleasant during afternoon tea, staff all very young and inexperienced, and our Cocktails which was part of the deal were presented in Carlsberg glasses which was disappointing. Breakfsdt was also messy and the toaster was pathetic ! Please please please hire someone to cook toast and put it in baskets on table , a small simple thing but makes huge difference. The hotel bar was good fun with local singers and musicians not too loud Just perfect for a good atmosphere, again though staff very young and inexperienced. Overall its great value for money few small tweaks could make this hotel great
Shout out to lady working on reception think her name was Heather a lovely lady and more could learn from her unfortunately I dealt with a very snooty lady when booking she was rude and really annoyed me luckily for her I can't remember her name . I would go back though but would hope improvement occurs

We stayed at the Talbot Hotel Clonmel for two nights with a group of friends for a Christmas party, and we had a truly wonderful time.
The rooms are absolutely beautiful, with modern, stylish decor that feels fresh and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely, and dinner was absolutely delicious, offering plenty of options to suit everyone’s taste. The beds were incredibly comfy, ensuring a great night’s sleep.
The hotel’s swimming pool and relaxing spa area were a highlight for us—a perfect way to unwind during our stay. On top of all that, the staff couldn’t have been more caring or attentive, making the experience even better.
If you’re considering booking and still debating, don’t hesitate—just book! This place will exceed your expectations. We’re already planning next year’s party here again!

Nice surprise to see the hotel upgraded and modernised. Our second floor executive bedroom was beautifully decorated and furnished with a contemporary feel. The walk in shower was a great improvement to the shower head over the bath of old and the whole bathroom experience was great. Carpet in the bedroom and corridors was new, in the Art Deco style, very smart. Movement sensitive lighting very sensible. The Wheat Bar has been modernised and transformed. Breakfast was good, but please bring back the hash browns!! All staff we met were very professional, helpful and friendly. I'd say our stay was good value for money and I would certainly recommend this hotel as a great all rounder. Also offers leisure facilities which we didn't use.

We have carried out substantial refurbishments since the Talbot Group took ownership of the hotel over two years ago. We have completed two of our three floors with the third floor due to be completed in early 2025. We have received amazing feedback on our new rooms along with the refurbishment of the main bar and our ballroom facilities also.
