This is definitely a ship that needs a good Captain. While it's very hard to complain when you're getting bed and breakfast for 45euro a night, single room, I have to admit, I'd rather pay a bit more and have no self service breakfast. It just doesn't work! When you are about to prepare your own breakfast, which none of us had any problem with, the least you can expect is a drop of milk for a cuppa. The two staff we met, Lorena and Amber, couldn't have been more helpful and courteous and looked to be trying their best to keep the ship afloat. Although we had one incident of disturbed sleep on our first night, which I'm sure was a one off, I would definitely use the hotel again. The rooms were very comfortable with a fantastic shower. I'm not sure of the reasoning behind the self service breakfast, but we did feel it wasa huge minus to the hotel. If you're looking for somewhere to put the head down for a few nights with no frills, then, at 45euro a night b/b, you can't go wrong.

What can I say, one of the worst places I've ever stayed, needs a complete overhaul. Extension lead for TV and kettle, no soap or bulb in bathroom, filthy skirting boards. Nobody was in the dining room to serve breakfast when I went in so I went into the kitchen to get food myself. On the other hand the hotel was cheap, the bedding was clean, plenty of pillows and price of a pint was reasonable, barmaid was lovely, had great craic in the bar. No airs or graces with place.

Really enjoyed my stay with Esther, Richard and their very friendly staff. Nicely refurbished georgian building gave me a very relaxing stay but as always with hotels, it was the lovely friendly staff that I will remember. Well done all.

We received a warm Irish welcome from Esther and her staff. The bar was lovely and friendly, we felt very comfortable, and well looked after, nothing was too much trouble. Fennessy’s is well located in the centre of Clonmel, not too far from the motorway and access to Dublin and other regions, yet Clonmel is a charming Irish Town. The hotel is a grand building decorated in the classic style. We will certainly come again for a longer stay.

Warm and friendly welcome on arrival. This girl who checked me in was the only plus for this place.
Hotel? No. More like Guesthouse or BnB. Hotels have better standards. This place is dated.
Walls paper thin. Guy in room woke me when he was going to bed after pub banging doors.
He woke me with his snoring. Then finally woke me slamming door, on phone and then TV on all before 9am.
But the absolute piss take of it all was the Hotel Cleaner banging on room doors to get people up and out before 10am. Check out is 11am. Never, ever have I experienced such issues in hotel.
Woman I met whilst checking out, early, was like well we can't control the guests. Ehmm yes, you can. You need to ensure ALL Guests get sleep without such selfish behaviour from other guests.
Educate your cleaner on when a Guest pays to stay, that they do not bang on their doors before check out time, to demand the guest leave.

I stay in a lot of small hotels around Ireland and this was by far the worst. There was no shower door which meant the room was flooded whenever I had a shower. The light in the room was not working so I was fumbling around in the dark every evening. The staff didn't seem too concerned when I told them about these two issues and did nothing to address them. There was no latch on the window so I could not close it properly. I thought this might not be a major issue until the first night when I realised there was a pub below my room with music and people standing outside. There was also a loud fan at the side of the pub which ran all night. There was one single socket in the room for TV, kettle, hair dryer, etc. No staff came near my room for the three days I was there. I had stayed here before and don't remember it being so bad so it seems to have gone downhill significantly in recent times. I emailed the hotel after to let me know of my dissatisfaction. They didn't bother to reply.

I stayed here with a friend of mine which I booked through bookin.com. on arrival the girl at reception did not have the booking so I paid cash. The room was cold shower went from hot to cold decor was so outdated. We went out for the night and on arrival back to the premises we wer locked out we never got a front door key and there was no one in the premises to answer the door or our phonecalls. Ended up getting back in at 7.30 the following morning when the owner arrived to open. I did get refunded (obviously because we did not stay there Garda brought us to the local a&e for the night for heat and safety). I will not be returning or would not advise anyone to stay here. Safety for customers is a must.

From the get go ... we are a group of retired Irish Defence Forces personnel and are part of the Irish United Nation Veterans Association Pipe Band (10) persons.....We were invited to Clonmel by the local UN Veterans group to play at a wreath laying ceremony and to parade the group up to the local church.

On the 20th of July we phoned the hotel to book 5 twin rooms for 10 personnel arriving on the 28th of August.
We again phoned on the 22nd of July to ask for a confirmation text message regarding the above I was told that there was no problem it was all booked and they were looking forward to seeing us on the 28th of August. (we never got the confirmation text)
On the 27th of August we phoned, to be told by a employee called Glen they had no record whatsoever of 5 rooms been booked. we then received a phone call from Samantha (manager) to say that it was a mix up and they had the 5 rooms and there was no problem.
Saturday morning 28th August we received a text message saying that Booking.com had also booked rooms, and the hotel had only had 4 rooms 2 of which were double. we phoned and asked what happened to our 5 rooms we were informed that we had only booked 5 rooms for 5 people,

10 UN Veterans booked this hotel as attending local event with other veteran's. Upon arrival we only had 4 rooms instead of 5, as they had overbooked. This lead to 3 (over 65) of our party sleeping on the floor. Breakfast was a help yourself from the kitchen.. Frozen produce not fresh. Also at time of bookings we mentioned coeliac requirements & were told no problem. This was not the case. No staff around to chat about issues until 2 days later we got to speak with Samantha who was quite rude & took no responsibility for what had happened, she actually denied it all and informed us she "sacked her barman" very unprofessional establishment and would not recommend to anyone. Pictures did not agree with hotel itself.

Clonmel is a beautiful place in Ireland but sadly Fennessy’s Hotel let it down. The staff are very friendly and welcoming but I don’t think some of them are really doing their best. The room I stayed in was dusty, dirty and noisy. The carpet was stained and the frame of my bed was actually dusty! The bathroom had broken taps and dirt behind the sink pipes. I think the place is cleaned but not deep cleaned and many of the areas of dust are overlooked. I was so uncomfortable staying there I couldn’t use the bath or shower. I couldn’t sleep due the noise of either a boiler or extractor fan and I didn’t even know who to complain to as there were very few staff on hand. The bed was very comfortable and food really good. The hygiene sadly let them down. I can not recommend staying until a deep clean is done!
