Detailed Reviews
The B&B is located on a hill overlooking a beautiful lake surrounded by hills. The most stunning view we had from our room and from the living room where breakfast was served. Mr and Mrs Connolly were most hospitable. We weren't sure whether we would drive the Ring of Kerry, so we asked our hosts. Mr Connolly recommended us the Ring of Beara instead and we have never regretted following his opinion. What a breathtaking drive that was! We saw the most amazing places, stunning nature.
Everything in the B&B was clean, breakfast was delicious. The rooms were light and not too small. We had an excellent stay here and would certainly recommend this B&B to anyone visiting this area. It's a really good option to stay in Glengarriff instead of in Killarney and drive the Ring of Beara and not the touristic Ring of Kerry. Irish hospitality at its best! We'll come back!

The Connolly family operate this bed and breakfast. It is high on the hill overlooking the bay. Our room had a post card view. A couple we met at breakfast the next morning were using vouchers under a travel plan. This B & B for them was by far the best one visited. We thought it was excellent value at 35 euo each a night including a delicious breakfast in a large airy room with a wonderful view.
Pat Connolly recommended Casys for a pub dinner and even drove us there. We had a good dinner and enjoyed talking to the locals. Although the Connollys have been operating a B& B for many years they continue to offer warm Irish hospitality and good service.

The views from our bedroom and dining room were awesome, there is a beautiful garden with breath taking views also. Our stay here was for one night, two weeks ago during the heat wave, the three of us would have loved to have had more time here. The bedrooms were tastefully decorated, the beds were comfortable and sleep quality was excellent, it was very quiet and peaceful. There was a breakfast menu with lovely choices, the breakfast was very good. There was tea making facilities in the bedrooms. Kathleen was a lovely hostess, very welcoming and helpful.

What a fantastic location!! A narrow drive upward to get to the B&B. Wonderful views out over the lake. A gorgeous garden. The breakfast room is huge with great views. Our room was enormous, clean and comfortable. There is a small, cozy sitting room next to the breakfast room. Kathleen's breakfast was very good also.
But my wife and I both agree that this wasn't one of our favorite B&Bs in Ireland. Kathleen and her husband were both friendly, but we saw little of them. We, personally, like to be greeted with a cup of tea and snack--which most B&Bs do. There was tea making facilities in our room--but just not the same. They weren't very 'chatty' which I'm sure some people prefer, but we like the hosts to spend a bit of time getting to know us and us getting to know them. Kathleen did tell us they had had a full house the night before as there was a large bicycle race in town and all accommodations in Glengarriff had been full that night. Personally, we feel they were both a bit tired from the previous day and current morning activities.
OK--in summary--beautiful location, beautiful B&B, fantastic gardens, good breakfast. But, less of the personal contact that we like in a B&B.
Next year we would like to revisit the area to spend more time exploring the Beara Peninsula. We would stay here again to give it a second chance. Maybe Kathleen had a bad day--maybe we did.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful six days at Carraig Dubh House. Kathleen and Pat were charming hosts and exceptionally accomodating. The breakfast was excellent and the room, which we has access to 24/7, was bright and clean. The beds were comfortable and the location is not only beautiful but also peaceful and quiet so we slept soundly.
It's about 2 1/2 km from the town. We were originally concerned that may be too much of a hike there and back but discovered it was a pleasant walk and never availed of Pat's kind offer to drive us to the town each evening.
Carraig Dubh House will be our first choice any time we're in the South of Ireland.

We spent 3 nights at this lovely Guesthouse. Mr and Mrs Connolly could not have been any kinder or more helpful. The view over the lovely garden down to the sea was amazing and we felt so welcomed our children were really sad to leave.
The room we had was spacious for us and our two kids. It was beautifully decorated and the beds were extremely comfortable. The breakfast menu was extensive and everything we had was delicious. The Connolys were wonderful hosts and we hope to go back next summer for even longer.

Nice and cosy place, warm and welcoming managers.
My wife loved it so much that she asked me the difference between a B&B an a 4 stars hotel.
I couldn't explain...
The house is away from the main road, so very quiet and a parking is available.

We stayed at Carraig Dubh House for two nights and are glad we found it for explorations of West Cork. It is set on a hillside just five minutes' drive from Glengarriff, with lovely pastures and woods surrounding. Our room was very large and had a beautiful view down the hillside and out onto the bay - before breakfast each morning, we watched the light change over the water - a rare treat for people who live a thousand miles from any ocean. The second morning a rainbow had formed in the mist and lingered for a minute or two before the sun broke through. Kathleen and her husband are friendly and helpful - we enjoyed talking with them at breakfast and then reporting on our explorations at the end of the day. Breakfasts were delicious and beautifully served in the window lined dining room with views into the lower gardens surrounding the house. We highly recommend Carraig Dubh in Glengarriff - a great base for seeing Bantry, The Healy Pass, Gougane Barra, Allihies, and even Kenmare.

Stopped here for two nights and was given a room that overlooked the ocean with views that was stunning. Kathleen Connelly is the owner (along with her husband) and is a treasure not to be missed. The rooms were quiet and comfortable with everything you need, hairdryer, tea making facilities etc. It's about a mile from Glengarriff centre and up a hill but when we visit the area again we will definitely be staying here!
