Detailed Reviews
We found Rockwood house by chance when looking for b&b in glengarriff for one night stay.
The room was okay clean, in between cosy and kitch. Our communication with the hostess was very brief and limited to weather and choice between continental and Irish breakfast (question asked at least three or four times). The breakfast was average without taking into account the views of the kitchen with dishes on the floor and cat hair on the pot of milk.
Overall, the experience was ok but too weird to be good...The owner looked like she has lost her mind (perhaps recently as the former reviews seem to be very good...). The guys in the local pub also confirmed the lady was somewhat crazy but safe to stay with:)

We spent one night here during our whirlwind tour of Ireland. We stayed in Glengarriff to provide a starting point for our excursion to the Beara Peninsula the next day.
All in all, the Rockwood is very serviceable B&B. The room was clean and fairly spacious. The breakfast as standard Irish and the hostess nice.
I think our biggest complaint though was Glengarriff itself and thus the location. It was just a little too small and sleepy for our tastes. In hindsight, we should have continued north to Kenmare and then backtracked to Beara.
But if you want peace and quiet, you've come to the right place.

Room was clean, beds were warm, breakfast was plentiful, hostess was ever-gracious. Not much more you can really ask from a 30€ per night B&B, really, is there? Admittedly, the shower was blocked for a while by the hairs of what must have been an orang-utan who stayed in this room before, though this was sorted out by Audrey's (the hostess) helpers.
Fantastic stay - we all left happy.

Room Tip:Â The newer building closer to the village centre has better wifi and bigger, more luxurious showers.

It is hard to be too harsh on this place, given the nice and warm welcome we received. And the host was accommodating, and very friendly.
However, the shabby, thrifty, old, and out of date room, the mouldy walls in the bathroom, the thin curtains (which started life as a duvet cover), and the damp and mould in the air, left a bad taste in the mouth. When asked to pay 120 euro off session for two nights for two, I could have choked. A poorly cleaned and poorly set out dining room did not help either, and when my wife and I noticed the butter set out in an ashtray, all we could do was laugh. The laughter soon ended, when my wife, who has asthma, started to wheeze, then the inhaler came out, and an asthma attack was narrowly avoided, but what is worse, is that the mould and damp of the Rockwood House is completely avoidable. Extractor fans in the showers, better heating, wooden floors and upgrade throughout, and this means spending money on proper and firsthand furnishings- our head board was wicker, the bed was old, and the mattress worn out, our side lockers were a bizarre mix of wood and paper, and the en-suite was dirty, cold and damp- would make this place 100% better. There is need for sound proofing, and the place shakes when you walk up or down the stairs, and the windows don’t bloke out much noise. We came home happy from our trip to Glengarriff, but the smell off our clothes- of cigarettes (the host smokes), fries, and mould, left a bad taste in our mouths, and we will never stay here again, and I advise you not to make the same mistake, until there is serious effort put into the Rock House, to make it a warm and welcoming place for start to finish. Don’t stay here if you expect to have a great time relaxing, especially if you are one of the millions of people who have asthma. Don’t stay here if you are one of millions of people who don’t have asthma, and like to have a shower, in a clean, mould free environment. And don’t stay here if you don’t want to return from your break to find all that all the spare clothes that never made out of the bag, have to washed when you go home! Glengarriff is a beautiful place, and the welcome we received was warm, but not enough to make up for the thrifty and mouldy Bed and Breakfast that is the Rockwood House.

We spent a lovely couple of nights here, having initially only planned to stay one night.
Audrey was very welcoming and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed and easy-going. Rooms were clean, showers efficient, full Irish breakfast was delicious.
We would definitely stay here again.

A great find at the end of the day! Audrey, thank you so much for driving me around looking for someone I'd met in Glengarriff over 35 years ago! You really were a great help. And tks also for the comfort and good breakfast. A perfect end to a wonderful visit to Glengarriff - what a beautiful place!

We visited Glengarriff for a wedding in December 2010,We arrived at 9 o'clock at night and were unsure of where Rockwood house was , we rang the B&B and Audrey answered the phone ,when asking how to get to her she told us not to move from where we were that she would collect us from the bus stop , now if that's not good service and going the extra mile I don't know what is!!On arrival to our room we were presented with lovely homemade mince pies ,what a treat!!We asked Audrey if there was somewhere we could go and eat and before we knew it she was at our door with a plate of sandwiches ,to keep us going she say's ,wow we say that is service!!The room was lovely ,with a nice and comfy bed and lovely ensuite with plenty of room! Breakfast was a lovely home cooked traditional Irish fry up and lovely it was with as much tea and coffee as we wanted!!Audrey is such a lovely host so warm and welcoming ,sometimes when you stay in a b&b you feel a bit awkward but not at Rockwood House ,Audrey goes out of her way to make you feel comfortable! I revisited Rockwood House in 2012 and was made feel as welcome as my first visit and to my surprise the B&B has been given a full make over ,it looks fabulous .I would recommend you stay at Rockwood House if you visit Glengarriff. Thank you Audrey for making our stay!!

Came across Rockwood House in Glengarriff by chance on our way around the Ring of Beara, we only planned to stop 1 night but ended up staying 5! The O'Mahoney family were very welcoming and had a great knowlege of the surrounding area recommending plenty of places to visit including a boat trip to Garnish Island on the HarbourQueen,a visit to the Ewe Garden Sculpture Park which our children loved, another day we went to Kilarney and enjoyed a ride on a pony and trap around Muckross House Gardens. Overall a very enjoyable stay in pleasent and comfortable surroundings. Definately recommend a stay if you're in the area.

I only intended to spend one night in Glengarriff and Audrey's place fit the bill. I knew as soon as she opened the door, I'd be well taken care of. My room was cozy, clean and homey. Breakfast was about what I expect in an Irish B&B, nothing fancy, but hot and filling. I love places like this because you get to meet down-to-earth people who offer personal attention. At a breakfast chat, Audrey gave me some unexpected tips on things to do and places to stay in Barcelona, Spain. She'd been there recently and I'll be visiting in the fall. She also helped me defrost the windscreen on my car before I left in the morning.
Since it was the off-season, there wasn't much going on in town, but the restaurants just a short walk up the street were open and I spent a very interesting and lively evening with the locals at Mac Carthy's pub up the hill. Glengarriff is largely a tourist town in the high season, but I found the town harbor and surrounding hills to be lovely. During the season, tours to Garnish Island are also available. If you just need a comfortable place to lay your head for the night in Glengarriff, you can't go wrong at the Rockwood House.
