The bedrooms, of which we had booked 2 (so it was not an isolated case), had all the hallmarks of a dingy bedsit in the city. I couldn't even stay one night. The stale and old smell in the bedrooms was so very strong. We aired the rooms and went for a long walk and bought ouder neutralising spray and disinfectant wipes while out but they didn't work either. I had difficulty with the door locks as I was upset and Alan appeared to help but he was not wearing a mask. I lifted the throws that were covering the beds to make sure that the bedding was of a standard. It was not. Both the duvet and covers were very very old and tired, they were completely off-colour and simply wasn’t a place that I was prepared to lay my head. I couldn't stay even a night and so I booked alternative accomodation, which took a while and then went and spoke to the owner. I mentioned this to Margaret in the nicest possible way and suggested that they invest in some new bedding. I also mentioned the smell as nicely as I could and that we had to buy odour neutralisers while out. She offered me an alternative room, however, at that stage I was so upset and I had made alternative arrangements. She was surprised and noted that it was approx 3 hours after we had checked in. However, we had not stayed in the premises for more than 15/20 minutes, if even, while we aired the rooms, figured out what to do & searched for local alternatives. I told her that I thought that a refund was in order. Margaret said she would discuss this with Alan, who was actually sitting behind her. As she did not call him over, I left on the understanding that I would hear from her. I did not. I sent her a follow up text to which she did not respond & then another a 2 days later. I was at all times polite, however, the response I got was inappropriate and rude. Margaret asked me what I expected for the money, to which my response will always be a clean place to sleep. I would NOT recommend this place, I couldn't even stay one night.…
I couldn't recommend the Old Cable House enough, they were so accomodating & such lovely hosts. The food was DIVINE. I arrived late & had phoned ahead a food order to another guest who had already arrived ahead of me, I expected it to be cold on arrival but didn't mind, I couldn't believe it when I arrived that the chef had stayed on to cook a fresh meal for me after my long drive. To top off that generosity the food was delicious at each meal. Very kind people who make you feel at home with them & helped us in any way they could which was greatly appreciated
I stayed here for just one night as I was attending a funeral next day in the locality. I arrived earlier than planned and was made very welcome. I enquired about food to be told that there was a limited menu that evening which is understandable due to the COVID situation...I more than enjoyed my sea bass & glass of white wine. My room was spotlessly clean and very comfortable and the electric blanket in the bed was very welcome as it was a miserable day! This is not a 5 star establishment but I would highly recommend simply because of the welcome, the cleanliness and lovely seafood. The location is perfect...just a few minutes walk to the seafront in Waterville.
A bright, pristine house with an interesting historical theme to it. The owners made sure that all of our needs were looked after, serving a very tasty breakfast also the next morning. Would definitely recommend it!
