Detailed Reviews
We stayed here with a group of about 10 friends last year en route to Connemara. It was great. The locals chatted with us and there was some excellent Irish folk music. Good rooms, and a cracking breakfast. Wouldn't complain at all.
It's a bit far out of Athlone, so you have to drive in, and the pub food is bog standard- burgers and frozen chips and salad. Still, we didn't go for the gastronomy, and the welcome, music and breakfasts were top notch. A good stopover.

We stayed one night at the mill bar on our way to the west, on arrival we were given the choice of two rooms. Both were very similar it was like stepping back in time to the 1970s. All the decor from the bed spreads to the carpets and bed room furniture screamed for updating. I must point out that everything was spotless just extremely tired. The bar and restaurant attached to the b@b was ok, it one of those bars that an attempt has been made to make it look old but has ended up looking like a theme bar gone wrong. The food in the bar was good and not expensive, all the staff were very pleasant. Over night our room was very cold, I wakened several times due to the cold, the tiny spartan bathroom, did not have any heating whatsoever, so it was a quick jump into the show to avoid frostbite. The breakfast was very good as was the wifi, and the lady was very friendly. However the Mill bar is firmly stuck in the 1970s, and in my opinion is not up to standard in 2016.

Most of the family from the UK stayed for a long weekend and had my mum's 70th birthday party there. What can i say, fantastic, no problems what's so ever. Great breakfast, home made bread. It was great with very friendly staff and owners.

I went to check into the b&b at two on a Saturday but the bar wasn't open and no answered my knocks. When I raised this I was accused of being lying by the owner, when I challenged this assertion and provided proof of my attendance the owner wouldn't replt. I paid full price for a room I didn't use in thr end, small price to pay as a warning to steer clear in future.

Went here on our way to athlone springs hotel (definitely recommend) anyway would not even recommend this place to my dogs!!!only on principle of how we were treated by one and the only one member of staff MARIA....absolutely rude rude rude!!!had to seriously bite my tongue in this place not to say anything only because my partner told me its not worth it!!!I asked to change my order that I had just made to a half portion ad I was not that hungry she looked at me like I had 5 heads said no very adamantly as though I was just released from an institution, then she continued looking at me like I was from an institution from the corner of the bar,my god all I wanted was a half portion, then came the slamming of my diet Coke on the table before grunting and walking away, then when I asked about Theresa (who is the landlady I had read about on TA previously and had been praised for her quality of service) I was looked at once again like I had just been released and told there was no Theresa there????????isn't she the landlady!!!!!anyway I'm now relieved to be out of that twilight zone but Theresa if you are out there, word of advice......FIRE MARIA!!!!!

Trip advisor let us down on this one; there are several excellent reviews but we most definitely would not recommend. The rates are extortionate for such shabby accommodation. The whole place needs upgrading.

I was booked to stay at the Mill Bar last week at a charge of 50 euro per night for a single room for two nights. However, when the owner found out that the booking was made for me by the BBC, they tried to raise the price to 75 euro per night but lowered it to the original price when challenged. Later that day, when I went to confirm my time of arrival I was told the price had been changed to 65 euro per night, at which I decided to cancel the booking. This is to warn others to make certain of the price they will be charged when they stay here.

We stayed at the Mill bar for 3 nights bed and breakfast on a working trip and could not avail of the breakfast any morning as the landlady would not accommodate us whatsoever. On arrival we asked could we have our breakfast earlier as we needed to leave for work and she responded " No, sure there is lots of places to buy your breakfast !" When asked could we have sandwiches as an alternative her response was " sure I've no food to make them with ! "
We found the landlady unwelcoming, unhelpful, made no effort with her guests, with a take it or leave it attitude !

My husband and I stayed here for one night. Teresa welcomed us even though we were quite early and she gave us very helpful directions to get into Athlone by public transport.
The room was pleasant and the en-suite small but adequate, it had a shower, no bath.
Teresa gave us an excellent breakfast, my husband thoroughly enjoyed his, large, cooked breakfast. I just had toast and yogurt, which was all I wanted.
We ate in the Cornloft Restaurant which is all part of the small b&b, bar restaurant complex. The food was very good and the waitresses extremely helpful.

From booking.com l got the impression it was to be a top notch place. Well the reception was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and nicely furnished, but somewhat cramped. The bathroom was disappointing as the grouting needed a good clean( mould remover spray would bring it up to new) and the towels could have done with drying in a tumbledryer to make them nice and fluffy

"We were in a front room and it was quiet but at a very quiet time (July, but wet weather) - never heard cars in car park or anyone in bar. Nevertheless I think a rear room might be better in season, away from car park and the bar itself."Read full review
