Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We had an apartment book (218) for myself, my sister & 2 nieces visiting from Australia for 2 nights, when we checked in Daniel at the reception was so friendly & helpful, a really nice lad & advised us on what to do & where to visit, we had dinner & drinks that night in the hotel the food & service was excellent, our waitress were 2 twin sisters, lovely girls, our apartment was very comfortable & clean but my only complaint was that our apartment had no wash up facilities in the living area & we had to rinse our glasses & cups in the bathroom sink (not very hygienic)

Lovely, comfortable and relaxing break. We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 kids and we stayed for one night. We had a lovely stay. The staff were helpful and kind and the lovely barman gave me our cups of tea on the house! Room was very big and spacious and was spotlessly clean. Town centre is a 5 minute walk. We will defo return.

Great location with a 5 minute walk to bars and restaurants. Lots of parking available and the hotel is spacious and welcoming. Very good breakfast and staff can’t do enough to help you. We stayed as a break from a drive across Ireland and we’re very pleased that we did.

Stayed last Wednesday night with friends in two bed apartments, apartments are a bit dated to be fair & the mattress in apartment 117 seriously needs replacing it was awful like a computer hallow one side of the bed, bar is also bit dated but staff are quite nice & helpful the dinner is the restaurant was fab, generous & value for money, breakfast was also nice but I think they could extend it to 10:30 like most other hotels after a very uncomfortable night sleep in an awful bed it was a struggle to make breakfast by 10am, hotel in general just probably needs a little update but was fine for short stay, location also good

The bed was comfy and the bed was large enough to be comfy and relaxing. However it appears they've spent a lot of money on doing up the outside and very little on the inside. There was black between the tiles and the holes in the tiles filled with caulk from previous fittings. The food was absolutely dreadful and I would recommend anyone to avoid eating there. I ended up extremely sick from a simple pizza which I couldn't even finish it was that bad!!!

Dear Gemma, Thank you for leaving the time to review our hotel. I am sorry to hear about your shortcomings on your stay however we take pride in the cleanliness of our hotel and our accommodation staff work very hard to ensure this. We have invested heavily in constantly renovating our hotel with more plans in the pipeline. Your feedback on our food, while I take it on board, is not inkeeping with other reviews as you can see. I hope that you would have said something while at the hotel as we could have resolved any issue you had while you were here. I hope that we can welcome you back in the future so that we can change your mind about our family-run hotel. WIth every best wish, Alan McCaul, General Manager, Shamrock Lodge Hotel

It felt welcoming and relaxing the moment we went in. I'm 98 years old with some physical problems. The ground floor room was perfect for me and very comfortable. The food was good, all the staff from reception to dining room were efficient and friendly. I'll happily go again.

We really enjoyed our stay. Welcoming staff and a very comfortable, spacious room. The breakfast buffet was very good, with lovely porridge available, the full Irish breakfast and lots of fresh fruit and yogurts. The hotel is in a quiet part of the town, but only a short walk from the centre.

Stayed 3 nights. There were ants on the table day we arrived and next day too. There was mould on the balcony door and surround and on ceiling in the wardrobe. Horrible smell of dust too. Not happy. We were transferred to another room. The new room was a lot better but bathroom fan very noisey. Will never go back.

Quaint hotel with historical significance. One feels that the place has a soul, something lacking so very often in quite a few modern, big hotels. It's a small hotel, in a small town, in the middle of nowhere (or so it feels) yet it has the biggest heart and soul compared to all the other grand hotels we stayed at!! Above everything else, what gives Shamrock Arms a score of 10/10 are the two lovely ladies, Sue and Belinda, who took such good care of us. It's so important that a hotel or guesthouse has this personal touch, a touch that makes such a difference when staying somewhere. Their good communication before our arrival, the information they gave us once we had arrived and the delicious dinner kindly prepared for us, all need to be mentioned. We appreciated it all!! We thank you both so much for making our stay so pleasant, comfortable and special. We feel like we have two friends and a home in Waterval Boven!! And you, Sue, I'm sure , feel like you have a copy of your dad somewhere out there in the world!!

Dera Surya77, I hope you are very well. I must admit that while we would love this review for our own family owned and run hotel based in the midlands of Ireland, I am afraid that I must tell you that your lovely review was intended for another establishment, a place I would certainly wish to visit some day!
