It a bit over priced for a room with no ensuite. Its very basic and no breakfast. Could get a hotel and breakfast cheaper. The stairs and floor boards creaked and you feel like your a teenager sneaking back in home after a night out.

Fab, quirky and a great place to pu our heads down after a 24hr flight from Sydney. Athlone is a great town would have liked to stay longer. If you have a few days ask for the rooms across the road-like a studio appartment. Breakfast was great-fab selection of cheeses. Highly recommended.

I visited in the Bastion while visiting friends for a night in Athlone. It is located centrally, close to all bars & restaurants. The premises was really cool and very clean which is always a plus. That said, the walls are absolutely paper thin. I barely slept due to the snoring & other sounds from both sides of each wall!...

Myself and my friend stayed here for a night while we were visiting friends in athlone! The location is absolutely perfect, right in the heart of town, surrounded by pubs and restaurants! It started off on an uneven footing kind of straight away when the owner rang me the morning we were arriving and more or less demanded a time...

Was having a weekend with friends. I was rang 4 times by owner asking me what time I was coming. I had to abandon clothes shopping to come over so he could check us in so he could pop out to do grocery shopping , which was annoying . When we arrived we were asked what our plans where for...

Nice place for the 50 euro cost. It was Oct 2014 and cool outside but portable heaters that were provided were very efficient and heated the room in almost no time. Loved the comfortor (sp)blanket. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

We chose Bastion B&B due to the positive remarks on Tripadvisor. We like a bit different / artsy things and were curious how it would present at the Bastion. The house is really unique with nooks and crannies, rather narrow ailes and with very clean rooms, each different in surface. We booked a bigger room for €80 to have space...

Lovely welcome from Tony and his sister. Very attractive room at the back of the hotel (the Long loft room), very quiet. Continental but good breakfast in a comfortable room, which invites you to stay for a chat with other visitors. Location in town is perfect, parking is easy, restaurants and pubs at your door. No hesitation.

“Book in advance to get the larger upstairs loft room which is converted from an old dorm for young tradesman apprentices. A phone call ahead of time will give you all the information that you need. The whole inn is a series of old wood staircases leading to rooms here and there and off to the sides--all decorated with interest and comfort in mind. Our large room was remarkable for the fact that it could easily slept four to six people, and the huge beds were so comfortable that it was hard to roll out and start the day. Also, the tiny balcony offered a fine view of the trees that had just begun their fall color. If you plan to start in Dublin and move toward the West Coast, this is exactly mid-point, and many scenic and historic places are nearby as well.”
