We spent a couple of nights recently at Riverdale House B&B. Avril and Neil are lovely are fantastic hosts. We received a lovely friendly welcome (even with covid restrictions). Our room was a lovely, nicely decorated ensuite double. Avril left us with fresh homemade scones, butter & jam and some tea/coffee. The breakfast menu was nice and varied from your full Irish to eggs Benedict ..something for everyone. The dining was timed to accommodate social distancing and all very covid safe. Location is great too, just a 6 minute walk to Atlone centre. Parking also available onsite.
If you are planning a trip to Athlone, I would highly recommend calling Avril & Neil to check if they have a room available.

Firstly, Avril was ever so friendly and welcoming … what a lovely lady. Avril showed us to our rooms as well as having a lovely “general” chat with us and recommending places to go etc.

Their house is beautiful and they obviously take pride in what they do. The rooms were beautifully clean and very well furnished. The beds are so comfortable ! I wish we had stayed longer than 2 nights - I had the best sleep I’ve had in a long time !

Very well located - just a few minutes walk from the main centre of Althlone, the location is perfect and offers free parking.

We will definitely be back 😊

Thank you Avril for a lovely stay.

Best Wishes,

Jo, Matt & Isla

Xx

When leaving Dublin, we found we couldn't rent a car. We took the advice of the lovely gentleman who ran info at the Dublin Train Station. It was the weekend, and he told us our best shot to find a room would be Athlone. We walked from the train station to Riverdale House (I would suggest you take a taxi), and found the spectacular hosts in a pristeen 1904 house--tastefully decorated, very warm and friendly, and amazing food. Surely, we will have to adjust to our new travel needs, but Avril and Neil were lifesavers.

We arrived tired after a long day and week of traveling in Ireland. Arvil and Neil greeted us warmly and treated us like friends. The bedrooms were all decorated beautifully with superior bathroom towels and bedding! The cooked to order breakfast was A+. The owners have worked very, very hard to provide the wonderful accommodations and delightful Irish hospitality. When we left, we knew we just had to come back here again! Visit them, stop by Sean's bar and chat with the locals! Great fun! You will be glad you stayed at Riverdale House B & B.

We had a very warm welcome and stay! Only for a night though, as we were driving back to the airport...our room was a lovely one, furnished with antique furniture but a very comfortable bed that overlooked the autumn garden. The hosts helped us with recommendations and we enjoyed touring the castle which was well worth it! The town is small and lively and it is a pretty place. We had the most scrumtious breakfast with homemade brown bread that was The Best in Ireland! Our hosts were gracious, kind and I would certainly recommend staying at their B&B.

The place was clean and the breakfast was good but I found the owner to be rude. My wife and arrived from Dublin an hour in a half before check in and the male owner opened the door and looked at us like we were crazy. He said something to the effect that check in is at 4 in a manner that implied “duh”. When we came back and checked in I asked if I could read downstairs ( I had seen a very nice room with a table by the window). He said oh no and pointed to a chair in my room and said you can read there. Then he said in a very snarky way, this is a bed and breakfast. I said I know but can I seat in the breakfast room. He said no he had work to do. On the next morning I ordered breakfast and advised that I had had an allergy to lactose. They brought me eggs with soy in it. I said I am so sorry I am allergic to soy as well. The man looked at me as if he wasn’t going to take the eggs back. He looked as if he was putted out and said I should’ve told them. His wife came out a moment later and repeated the admonition. All and all the woman was better than the man but they both need a lesson in customer service.

We stayed a few days while visiting family in the area. Neil and Avril made us welcome from the off, with nothing seemingly too much trouble.

Rooms were comfortable, clean, quiet and well equipped. We all slept like logs!!
Breakfast each morning was plentiful, delicious and all were well catered for.

Cannot recommend this wonderful house and it's gracious hosts highly enough.

Thank you again for a lovely stay and we'll be back again next year.

Spotless home in a super location. Tastefully decorated, the rooms are large, bright en-suites that are newly renovated. The BEST bed, quality sheets and bedding. Delicious breakfast, a huge menu with options for all. Superb hosts. A well deserved 5 ⭐️

Stayed here a second time after a wonderful experience last year. Neil & Avril made us feel like family returning, providing us with a warm and personal welcome.

The breakfasts are still out of this world, the rooms comfortable & well appointed but it is the gracious and fabulous hosts which will keep us coming back.

It's like coming home but without the complications that families inevitably bring - truly the best of both worlds.
