Nestled in the heart of the city, Sheraton Athlone Hotel garners accolades for its prime location, offering guests the convenience of nearby shopping, dining, and vibrant nightlife. The accommodations are lauded for their spaciousness and cleanliness, though a few guests find the decor a bit outdated. The plethora of amenities, including a gym and pool, add to the hotel's appeal, although there have been mentions of occasional closures.
While the service receives mixed reviews, the majority of guests appreciate the attentive staff. Despite the odd complaint about late-night noise, the overall atmosphere is celebrated as lively and welcoming.

Detailed Reviews
A lovely hotel with friendly helpful Staff. As soon as we exit the lift from the car park entrance, we were greeted by management which was lovely. They clear guided Covid-19 measures in place throughout the hotel. The receptionist was friendly and admire her honesty, as I made enquiries with regards to up grade to a club room...but with the Club lounge closed, we wouldn't get the maximum benefits from doing so! Our room was lovely and spacious and had nice toiletries in the bathroom. The also gave you the option of buying ppe masks with a small pack of wipes for only 3 euro! The Breakfast time was needed to be booked in advance! Most of the breakfast was fine, with the exception of the toast, which was really warm bread and their sausages weren't of the best quality! But they had a good quick efficient system in place. I would have no hesitation to book this hotel again, on my next trip to Athlone.

I visited the Hotel for my first break in 6 months and was very impressed with everything. From the minute i entered the lobby i could see so many people at work, cleaning, sanitizing etc. I felt very confident even before i checked in that i would be in very safe hands for the duration of my stay.
There was a sticker across the door/door frame indicating that the room had not been entered after it was cleaned and sanitized. My room was spotless and very spacious and airy. Bed so comfy with fabulous linen and pillows!!
We ate in the Hotel on both nights and did not regret it. Wholesome food and plenty of it.
Breakfast was great- we had to choose a time when we checked in and we were very impressed. with this-. We were all seated within a few minutes and our breakfast order taken immediately. At no time did we feel rushed, waiting staff came back to ask if we needed anything else twice.
The Hotel is so central, right in the middle of town and attached to the shopping center.
Thank you to the wonderful staff- we keep going back because we are always made so welcome. Liz, Karolina, Mark and Gareth you made our trip memorable and i am already planning my next trip next month.
I was so impressed with the level of cleanliness (AS PER USUAL) and all the COVID precautions that i had no hesitation in recommending The Sheraton to a friend who wanted somewhere that adheres to the regulations and guidelines recommended.

Stayed for a 2 night break. Very centrally located, within walking distance of the town centre.
Check in very smooth.
Very good health&safety protocols in place, clean room seal, sanitiser and social distancing markers on floors etc.
Rooms were very clean and spacious, we stayed in the Tower part of the hotel.
Breakfast was busy but managed very well with table service for the most part & if you wanted hot food it could be ordered from the hot food bar with the Chef.
We ate on in the bar one night and it was very busy, service was good and staff were friendly and helpful. Menu choices was ok.
Check out was fine.
Would recommend this hotel.

Had a great few days here recently with family. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and we were made feel very comfortable considering the times we are in. The hotel was spotless and all staff were wearing masks or shields at all times. We did have a bit of a wait for our room when we checked in but we didn't mind too much as I am sure the housekeeping staff must be under a lot of pressure. The food and service in the bar was excellent. The food at breakfast was also excellent but the service was disappointing. There was plenty of staff working but it was very disorganised. Our breakfast was almost finished before we got our tea & toast-we had to ask 4 different members of staff before we got our toast. Bit disappointing but did not ruin our trip. We will definitely be returning

Excellent location with great parking which is validated on leaving so is free!
Bar food was lovely but note they will not turn on TV for matches(we wanted a Hurling match) and they won't vary from the menu. Wanted soup and a chicken toastie. They had a different toasted sandwich or a chicken sandwich not toasted on the menu but couldn't get a chicken toastie but apart from that food was fab. Staff good in bar but young so may lack a little experience but were very pleasant.
We had a room with 2 double beds which was spotless, well aired and the bathroom had bath and showerwhich was great. Food tray still outside room when we checked in from previous guest and a sticker is placed on room door as a seal to say its clean and unused. This was put on the door after we checked in and while we were in the room. Didn't effect our stay at all but management might like to know!
Dinner booked for 6.30pm. Restaurant fab, food fab and staff excellent! Breakfast again in Restaurant. Food excellent and staff attentive and efficient. Check out straight forward. Would recommend this hotel for good food and excellent location!

On check in given a terrible room, would have to have the curtains closed at all times as our full length window looked directly into the corridor on the other side of the room. Asked to change room and upgraded, we got two different prices for the upgrade depending on which member of staff we asked. Very confusing regarding residents bar, we were told by reception that we could go to residents bar only an hour before or an hour after we had eaten in one of the restaurants and were only allowed have two drinks. Then when I rang down and asked reception they said that we can go whenever, when I reiterated what we had been told earlier they said yes it has to be a pre dinner or post dinner drink, yet we could go at 4 o clock and have as many drinks as we wanted when we weren't having dinner until 9?? Very confusing! We had to queue for 15 minutes for breakfast even though we had booked a slot. we had to wait 20 minutes for our table at dinner which was booked for half eight, we didn't sit down until almost nine.
Service was poor, at breakfast on the menu was a list of hot drinks, all of which had a price beside them but we were told a hot drink came with the breakfast. To my surprise we were charged for the hot chocolate I ordered, it was only three euro so I didn't care but i thought it was misleading that they hadn't even told me when I ordered it that that would be extra, when I asked they said there was a price beside it hence it was extra, but there was a price beside all teas and coffees and they were included in the price so Im not sure how I was supposed to know the hot chocolate was the only item on the menu not included..
Service in bar was awful, as soon as you get your food you are forgotten about. Waited twenty minutes for our bill today and had to ask again. Finally got it and no one came to take a payment for ten minutes had to call someone over.
Service in main restaurant not great either, didn't get our wine until
after our starters and food was just average. Its our second time here but I don't know if we would come back.

We have just come back from a night away in the Sheraton Athlone. This was our
5th Visit and again it didn't disappoint. Even with the Convid restrictions and the fact the pool was not available , we still enjoyed a much needed break.
For any concerns people have about distancing and sanitation, the Sheraton went above and beyond making us feel safe and secure. Sanitation stations are positioned all over the hotel, including the lifts. Contact tracing is used in the bar/restaurant.
I especially want to thank Mr Garrett Mc Guinness the GM , who helped with a small issue to do with our room, when there were much bigger concerns for him to deal with. Roll on August, we will hopefully be back and really looking forward to using the pool complex again.
It is a difficult time for all staff in the hospitality sector, putting themselves in the frontline for us. Thank you all even though it was only one night , it felt a lot more.

We stayed at the Sheraton for a short post Covid break away.
The hotel is right beside the Athlone town centre shopping mall and shares the underground parking area which is complimentary for hotel guests.
We had a King Deluxe room in the tower and we were very happy with it. very spacious, tea coffee etc and nice toiletries.
It also had aircon which was very useful. Only minor downside was the lighting in the bathroom could have been better.
We found the staff very pleasant, friendly and professional.
You are asked to reserve a time slot for breakfast which was great for us.
There was strict adherence to Covid protocols and we were very pleased to see all tables and chairs etc being thoroughly sanitized after each use and spaced the mandatory min 2 Metre distance apart. personally even after this horrible Covid situation is over I think hotels should continue with these procedures as I am sure most guests would prefer that.
Just a word to complement Ursula in the breakfast restaurant who was very friendly, helpful & kind to us. We loved the breakfast as well, great selection of hot & cold dishes.
We have to go through Athlone again within the next 10 days and plan to stay here again as we were so happy with it.

Recently stayed at the Sheraton Hotel with my partner and two friends after Covid restrictions lifted, so was very much looking forward to a weekend away in a hotel that comes highly rated. Received a warm welcome from the staff members on arrival at reception and we were very happy with the Classic rooms we were given.
Unfortunetly our stay went downhill from there after interactions with certain staff members.
On the first night of our two night stay we spent over €200 on food and drinks in the restaurant/bar, we eventually moved out to the lounge until last orders were called. Enroute back to our rooms we went up to reception to book in our time slot for breakfast in the morning, which is part of their current social distancing measures. We were dealing with the night shift duty manager who procedded to say 'Absolutely not' in a very aggressive way when we asked for a 10am slot. He then told us that 8.30am was the only available time so we asked him to put us down for that. His response was to inform us in a very demeaning tone that we were going to bed very late to be up for an 8.30am breakfast, clearly implying we wouldn't show up. I believe the last time I was given out to for going to bed late was a good twenty years ago when I was a child. At this stage our friends who were staying in a different room than us decided to opt out of the breakfast due to his rudeness. Myself and my partner again told him to put the two of us down for that time where he eventually did so. If breakfast wasn't included in our room rate we would have opted out also.
There were a couple of other staff members we interacted with at the bar and breakfast restaurant that also didn't have the friendliest attitudes and spoke to us like we were inconveniencing them, but the interaction with the night shift manager really stood out for us.
This interaction really soured our impression of the hotel. We spent alot of money there between two rooms at around €280 each along with the money we spent in the restaurant and bar over the two nights so we'd expect to be treated alot kinder. I probably will not stay here again which is a pity because I really loved our room and the facilities. I also will not be recommending the hotel to other friends and family.
Overall it was a 4 star hotel with a 1 star experience.

I stayed this weekend for my birthday and no room servicing . When I complained I was told I had to ask if I needed room cleaned or needed clean towels . We had dinner in restaurant Saturday night. I order rump of lamb and it was so dry and tough. When I complained was I was ignored and charged €22 for the dish even though I didn’t eat a bit of it. Lovely hotel in a great location but so disappointing we couldn’t get the basics of a clean room and good food.

Dear carkelgal, Thank you for taking the time to share your valued feedback. For safety purposes for both guests and our team, we do have guestroom refreshing on a request basis, so we are not entering a bedroom without the express permission of a guest. That said, you should have been provided with towels and general guestroom amenities in a proactive approach, and I will be understanding why this was not the case. I have shared your feedback regarding the lamb dish with our Executive Chef, but I would like to express my apologies for the apparent manner in which the issue was dealt with. I have sent you a private message also in an effort to speak with you directly. Sincerely, Garrett McGuinness Managing Director Sheraton Athlone Hotel
