Great hotel. Fabulous pool, with all sorts of massage jets. Food delicious. Incredibly friendly, helpful staff. Very centre of town, so plenty of shops. Wheelchair access really good. We highly recommend this hotel.
Loved their breakfast and the bakeries! Highly recommend the scones and cakes. And the staff were super kind. It’s a friend’s birthday and they even brought the cakes to our table with candles on them.
I have stayed in the sheraton a few times and have always loved it, so when me and my partner were celebrating our anniversary it was our first choice. On arrival we found out we got upgraded to the penthouse this was a lovely surprise. The staff were so friendly and helpfull as they always are. The food in the resturant was delicious and the breakfast. We both got spa treatments and the staff there were so welcoming. We had a great weekend and will most certainly be back. Kindest regards Pauline.
Came to Athlone for work and i’m a bonvoy ambassador looking to stay in marriott group hotels wherever i can There is no porter when i arrived. Discovered they have no concierge either Check in was ok and i think i got a corner room upgrade which was nice Had to carry my own luggage to my room and the hotel layout was weird, i had to change lifts. And the room numbering system also weird. 492 means you’re on the 11th floor, figure that out The room had floor to ceiling windows which was nice. Everything went downhill more from here. The tv doesn’t seem to work. There is no bottled water or bathrobe unless you ask. Even if you ask, there is no toothbrush, so bring your own. The bathtub tap leaks and the housekeeping just ignores it. The wastepaper bin cover is broken. And of course, no extras like hotel paperbag or umbrella. It rains so often in ireland you would think an umbrella is as basic as water. Oh wait, they didn’t have water I ordered in room breakfast and there is a 5 euro “tray carry” charge which must be cash or credit card. Cannot be charged to the room. Never mind she interrupted my zoom work meeting while waiting for payment. Later the front desk told me Bonvoy ambassadors can charge to the room. 🙄 And here’s the kicker. I completed the laundry form, it says send by 9am, back by 6pm, mondays to saturdays. Pretty standard for europe, except when i returned to the room, the shock and horror when i saw my laundry unwashed with a message - please send by 2am the night before. When i checked in with the front desk, they added, oh no laundry on mondays. I suggest they remove all the laundry forms immediately and reprint them correctly. They somewhat recovered by washing my laundry with the in-house machines, but i do my own ironing The experience is hard to stomach, and i’ve stayed in 500 hotels…
Beautiful hotel. Fantastic location right next door to a great shopping centre. Great spot for a girly getaway or couples holiday. Great cocktails in the bar. We ate in the restaurant as it was included in our package and I have to say the food was superb. The staff were lovely too there, but the music was vey loud and a bit strange taste for a restaurant. The room we stayed in was lovely overlooking the rooftop bar. The beds were so comfy and we had a great nights sleep. The room and bathroom were spotless and there was a modern TV. The one negative, and I hate being negative, is the staff (that dealt with us - I don’t want to tar everyone with the same brush) at reception and some in the bar. We weren’t welcomed or asked if we had stayed there before, just handed a QR code to scan - “all the information is there.” It was extremely busy at the time so I’m hoping that was the reason. On checking out I asked (a different person) about different room sizes / rates as we wanted to come back. I was told it’s all on the website. I thought it was very impersonal. I would have booked another weekend there and then. There seemed to be a lot of untrained bar staff too, with about three of them doing most of the work. There was one guy in the bar, and I didn’t get his name and I should have, who when he came down with a drink he would say have a lovely evening or I hope you are enjoying your night, which was lovely. We also had a lovely breakfast which ran very smoothly, a big shoutout to the breakfast team. And a coffee machine with a choice of lovely coffees which was a great touch. I would love to come back again soon and hopefully it will be a five star review next time.…
Another excellent work stay at the Sheraton, due in no small part to the superb Maire and Karolina at reception who went above and beyond to help us as usual. Ideal location in the middle of Athlone, within walking distance to bars, shopping and restaurants.
I arrived here after a ten hour journey from England and having paid £526 for one night bed and breakfast for two rooms for my daughter and myself I was looking forward to a quiet drink in a comfortable hotel bar. Instead the reception area was packed with people on a few sofas and a tiny cafe/bar was also packed with a queue to get in. Absolute mayhem to get in a lift to our rooms. The rooms themselves were large and very comfortable with giant super king beds and good bathrooms. Breakfast was excellent in pleasant surroundings. I left the hotel to have a drink in a very friendly pub nearby. If you only want to stay in your room this is for you but the mayhem downstairs means I will never go near the place again despite having stayed in other Sheratons where I was well satisfied.…
Just had a pedicure today with Elaine. My feet were in serious need of TLC and thats exactly what Elaine delivered. A great job from a very friendly therapist. I will be back to experiece more of the same and perhaps sample more of the treatments on offer
The room was large and clean but very bare on essentials given it cost over €300 (not even complimentary water!!!) Maybe booking.com got me a bad deal, but there is no way this hotel is worth that, even on a Saturday night! Even the reception was surprised at what we were charged. The hotel parking was a nightmare to find and we ended up driving into the multi-storey to get to it (which is actually part of the main town shopping precinct) where they just have a section cordoned off. There is no hotel bar, rather just a front facing bistro which is utilised by the public and was completely full. No drinks in the bar then! To add insult to injury there was a huge wedding which took up the first floor - think screaming kids and music into the night… I get this is a wedding venue but after all of the above we were left with a basic room, half the hotel closed to us - no bar or restaurant, and a parking spot in a multi storey carpark. Not exactly a luxurious and pleasant experience.…
