Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The setting of this beautiful old home is on a lake, with breathtaking gardens. Ethel is a wonderful host, making you feel at home and welcome. She arranged a cab for us to go into the center of town for supper, and both of her supper recommendations were spot on. Liam the cab driver was lovely, and came back for us as arranged. We were three sisters travelling together, and the room provided was perfect. We spent some time in the afternoon chatting with Ethel in the garden, and it was like chatting with old friends. Ricky, Dicky and Tayto add to the experience. We would return here in an instant!

Very comfortable beds in a beautiful spacious room. Excellent breakfast and great Wi-Fi. Ethel is a great host with plenty of information on the surrounding area. Close to superb restaurants in nearby Oughterard. The home and surrounding grounds are stunning. Plenty of convenient parking. Located behind the Oughterard Golf Club on N59. Convenient to Galway and scenic drives in the Connemara area. The best drive is a shortcut between N59 & R344 on the way to Kylemore Abbey called Flanagans Road. This is a single lane road through sheep country. Beware of the sheep lying on the road. Bryan & Eileen

Ended up at the wrong location, this lady was so welcoming and helpful to find out our correct accommodation. The views at this house need to be seen to be believed. We felt robbed, but will be forever thankful

My group of three stayed a Friday and Saturday night. This is a truly beautiful property in a one-of-a-kind slice of Ireland! Aughnanure castle, a cruise on Lough Corrib, and everything one needs or wants in Oughterard are convenient and natural daytrips; but you are very much away-from-it-all in this quiet and lush setting. Ethel, who is very kind, does a lovely job hosting a delicious breakfast and her home is so handsome and comfortable you will only reluctantly depart at the end of your stay.

The home is absolutely beautiful, and overlooks nice landscaping, a horse and donkey, and a lake. Ethel was so sweet, and made us feel very comfortable. She was willing to talk as much as we wanted, but also showed us our room quickly so we didn't feel uncomfortable. Our room was very large, and the bathroom was nice. We had a small couch facing out the window overlooking the water. Breakfast was very good as well.

For good access to the Connemara avoiding the traffic of Galway, the location was perfect and the host was very accommodating. The double room was comfortable for 2 people and the breakfast was excellent. Some visitors seemed to have come to the area strictly for the fishing. There is a lovely sitting room for reading.

First of all it was a stunningly beautiful location. So peaceful and serene. Ethel was the sweetest and kindest hostess on the entire trip. She gave us great tips on how to tour the area, and where to hike. The breakfasts were delicious! I loved sitting in the beautiful parlor after a long day of touring and listening to the relaxing music she had on. Rooms were spotless and very comfortable. Ethel, if you are reading this we never did see the Northern lights when we went back to Iceland. 😢

Staying here was definitely a treat and a highlight of our time in Ireland. Ethel is a kind and gracious host as well as a wonderful chef. We were absolutely spoiled with delicious breakfast each morning and wouldn’t feel hungry until 9pm at night. The property is stunningly beautiful and our room was spacious with a gorgeous view of the water front. Great location- not far from Galway and minutes from Oughterard, a small village with great pubs- not to mention the country house is right next door to medieval Aughnanure Castle. Can’t beat that.

We stayed 2 nights, and after five trips around the country, I have to say that this was my favorite B&B thus far. Mrs. Ethel’s hospitality and breakfasts are top notch, and the lake views and pony sightings are spectacular.
