Just finished a few wonderful days in Rolfs Country House.A hidden gem, from the warm and friendly welcome, to the amazing food.Beautiful family run business set in amazing grounds. You’re made feel like one of the family .The food is outstanding and prepared using only the finest ingredients.Spotlessly clean. I can’t wait to return. They are coping very well with Covid restrictions and staff cannot do enough for you.
Last September I returned to Baltimore for weekend. The village and indeed Rolf's have not lost their Charm. We received a friendly greeting tho it had been done years since last visit. We had a lovely meal and Rolfs delivered as good as it had in early nooghties.
We had booked to stay back in March but Covid put pay to that visit. We’ve been looking forward to visiting since we rebooked in May and we were not disappointed. We stayed three nights and found our room very comfortable and the shower facilities superb after a long day of walking. Breakfast was also very good and freshly made each morning. We dined I’m on our last night and had superb meal, which I have written a separate review on. If in the area again, I would definitely go back and would recommend anyone to stay.
I wanted to like Rolfs but I just can't. Upon arrival, we were told that we'd been given an upgrade and were duly excited to be shown to our room. It was beyond small. I shudder to think what we'd been upgraded from. The bed was barely a double, the mattress was austere and uncomfortable. The room was overly warm and we couldn't open our window more than a crack. The ensuite bathroom was the smallest I've seen, and it was nearly impossible to maneuver. The worst thing was that the soundproofing between rooms was practically non existent. We could hear conversations in neighbouring rooms and also the sound of them using the toilet. I know the owners will bang on about it being 16th centuary, but I've seen other conversions that have been done more spaciously. I firmly believe they just tried to fit in as many rooms as possible and the result is that we had a terrible nights sleep. For balance, the setting is nice, staff seemed pleasant enough and the breakfast was nice (although unadventurous - variations on an irish breakfast - the only alternative was smoked salmon, which turned out to be a meager portion). I can't recommend a guesthouse where a good sleep feels impossible. My parents had heard of the place and were waiting to hear about our experience. They've decided against a visit to Rolfs.…
Have just left today and only wish we could have stayed longer. We loved our own space in the cottage yet loved the restaurant on the doorstep. Food is fab, staff beyond friendly and helpful. Frida the resident dog was another highlight, together with the stunning garden. We absolutely loved it...after staying in four hotels on way down, this has been the best of them all, we will be back. Keep up the great work Frederika and team. Audrey and Niall, mullingar.
