Enjoyed a meal at this interesting restaurant on our recent trip to Ireland. My spouse had the Fish and Chips which came with salad and peas and was very good. I had the Hoisin Prawns, which came on spagetti-like noodles with vegetables and was very tasty.

I had a meal in this Restaurant two years ago & it was super but to my horror I was so disappointed last week with what I experienced. It had changed ownership in the last few weeks. We arrived at 2.40pm & was seated straight away. After 10mins we got a menu.Another 10/15mins our order was taken. In between the man on the floor was cleaning tables, emptying the dishwasher, drying glasses etc. A group of 10 people came in and were seated. Their order was not taken so after 15mins they all left. By this time my husband wanted to go also but I said we would stay as our food would surely be coming any minute. It was now 3.15pm,we hadn't received our drinks or cutlery. At 3.30pm out came food to the table beside us,they had come in at 3.15pm.It was at this stage we left. The man on the floor seemed surprised we were leaving. This Restaurant needs staff training in customer service & needs to quicken up or they won't be long in business.

Gilbert's is right in the centre of Cobh, and our room on the second floor was directly above the bistro itself, and looking over the square. A big, well equipped room with a comfortable big bed to match. Access is odd, via a security entrance up the street beside the bistro. Because of its location the room can be noisy - one of the nearby pubs had a beer delivery - rolling barrels at 7.00! Cobh is a cruise ship stop for Cork - the ships tower over the town and disgorge hundred of tourists. We made the mistake of taking the train into Cork in the morning - standing room only on the train.

We dined twice at Gilbert's during our holiday in Cobh. The menu is original and varied. We enjoyed the fish and, on the second visit, opted for two starters. Top marks for the goat cheese and roasted pepper bruschetta. The owner and Zoltan were charming, efficient and helpful. We are grateful to them for two entirely enjoyable evening, in a very pleasant environment.

Wonderful Gluten Free selections which are hard to find, but not the fish and chips. They were very very accommodating to families with young children. Multiple servers were friendly with our family and so helpful. They had popcorn for the kids to snack on and they brought out their meals very quickly. Very good fish and chips!!! It was exceptional and would recommend going there if you are in Cobh.

The location of this bistro is great, central to the strand (near the waterfront). Each of us enjoyed the Tempura Cod, served with chips and a nice salad which had a wonderful vinegarette dressing. (Strawberry?, Raspberry?) I can also recommend the Argentinian Malbec. The service was prompt and we had a very friendly waiter. Don't be dissuaded from trying this Bistro thinking it is small -- it actually has a larger area in the back, so seating was sufficient.
