Thank you, Denis — lovely breakfasts every day, for your freshly baked bread, cold cuts & fresh fruit, not to mention the weekend treats of sausage. We enjoyed your front room with a view looking out to Bere Island as a quiet place to enjoy our sandwiches (from Castletownbere Supervalu) when we didn't feel like going out to one of the fine local restaurants. Oh, and thanks too for that clothesline out back where we hung our laundry out to dry in gorgeous sunshine, while looking out on a field with a couple grazing Irish cows.
As many other bad reviews say: the attitude of the owner is despicable! Due to an unforeseen series of events, we finally arrived one hour after the allegedly closing time (which was 8 PM). The owner greeted us with aggresive yells and screams, harassed us verbally and continuously kept yelling: "have you read your contract? Apologies are not enough!" He was extremely rude, and as a woman I felt humiliated and felt very unsafe to continue to stay there, in the house of a hysterical owner! In the morning he refused to give us coffee and breakfast "because we complained to Booking.com". Around 7:30 in the morning we left (the booking was for 3 days). He refused to give us our money back but we will forward our complaint to an European Consumers' center and close Booking account if they continue to encourage this type of harassment.…
Wonderful stay, perfect location, spotlessly clean, wonderful views comfortable quiet room special mention to the wonderful breakfast and the homemade bread was unreal Thanks to Denis a welcoming host And Bruno the friendliest dog ever
We usually stay in another B&B when we come to CTB, but as it was booked out this weekend we stayed in Island View House. The facilities were spotless, Bruno and Dennis were lovely hosts, but the best part was the breakfast. We couldn’t believe the size of the cooked breakfast, two of them fed a family of four. Absolutely excellent food. There was also a buffet of cereals, breads and fruit. Just lovely. We would stay again just for the food (and the pets!)
A 2 night weekend break in Castletownbere was made even better by a stay at The Island View. Everywhere was spotlessly clean and the mattress was extremely comfortable. Guests are able to make their own hot drinks, and it was a pleasure to sit outside with a cuppa on the garden seat overlooking Bere Island and the harbour whilst listening to nature singing away, perfect. Breakfast is outstanding with a great choice including freshly baked bread and top quality fry ingredients. The location is ideal for walking into the town where there is a good choice of bars and restaurants and for the ferry over to Bere Island. There are ample parking spots for all guests. A great place to stay whilst in the area.
Dennis the owner was one of the friendliest people we met in Ireland (where everyone is friendly). Very knowledgeable of everything local. Beautiful view from our room window of Bere Island and the trawlers as they entered the harbor. Great evening by the fire in the front room. Breakfast was fresh in the dining room with the view. Room was very clean and comfortable. Would recommend to anyone.
Island View House is within walking distance to local amenities. Clean and spacious accommodation with a shared lounge area - the best was relaxing in front of the fireplace! Will definitely visit again if we come through Castletownbere.
I booked a room having stayed in this BnB before for work. I mentioned when I booked that I would arrive at approximately 9:30pm as I was driving from Galway (5 and a half hour trip) after a half day of work. I was visiting Castletownbere for work reasons. I rang 2 hours before arriving as a courtesy to say I would arrive at 9:45pm, which was a few minutes later than I had arranged. Unfortunately 10 minutes outside of castletownbere I crashed my car and completely damaged my wheel, leaving it undriveable. I was in shock but managed to ring the BnB to explain that I had crashed and would be late as I was trying to arrange recovery for myself and my car. Dennis was extremely rude on the phone saying "you were probably speeding, if you left earlier to get here on time then you wouldn't of crashed, I am here till 10pm, do not ring me after that and do not book here again". Not only did this man not offer me any assistance or even ask if I was injured but instead thought it would be appropriate to reprimand me for crashing my car (even though he did not know the circumstances of my crash) and leave me stranded, scared and alone on a country road located only 10 minutes from him. This is in my view totally unacceptable behaviour. I was stranded in Castletownbere with no accommodation after having a traumatic crash late at night. I am very lucky that my Cork based work colleagues were able to help me and found me another BnB nearby who took me in and made sure I was okay as I was in complete shock after the crash. I have never been so disgusted at someone's behaviour in this day and age, Dennis should be ashamed of himself. He left me in an extremely vulnerable position and with events of late I cannot get over his lack of empathy and concern.…
I had a wonderful stay at Island view house B&B, I came to discover the Beara Way and the owner being a guide, taught me a lot of history of the place and even took me on a few walks. I stayed for a week but should have booked for even more as this picturesque little village and area have so much to offer. The breakfast was copious and many options were available. What can I say, except: I will certainly be back!
Extremely rude host, noticed he was abrupt when we checked in. Was with a walking group of 18. The host was abrupt when we approached him to pay for one night. He accused us of booking two nights and that he should be charging us for two nights. This was totally incorrect we booked one night only. While some others in the group booked two nights we booked one night only. Breakfast poor. Would not recommend this place and certainly will not be returning.
