Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This was my second stay at this beautiful B&B in the lovely town of Castletownbere.I was on a monthly business visit and normally stay at different places but this place offers everything and the town is so beautiful. Plenty of places to eat around castletownbere and some lovely walks around the harbour. I would definitely recommend this charming B&B,Thanks to Lorna for her hospitality.

I and a colleague booked overnight rooms at this quaint B and B for a work trip in Castletownbere. Michelle and her staff were so welcoming and accommodating, it ended up feeling more like a holiday! The rooms were beautifully decorated and spotlessly clean, and the breakfast, which was included in the very reasonable rates, was absolutely fabulous, with great coffee too! We were just a minute’s walk from the famous McCarthy’s bar, and had a delicious dinner at Breen’s. I honestly couldn’t recommend the Old Medical Hall more highly and I advise anyone travelling in these parts to include an overnight here.

I booked to stay at this property last Friday, back in January and paid in full at the time, through booking.com . However, the Tuesday before my Friday stay, I had a positive antigen test, so I had to cancel. I cancelled on booking.com on Tuesday and they said they d reach out to the property to see if they would waive any part of the fee. They said I could also contact them. I emailed the property to say I had a positive antigen test, but received no response, booking.com also emailed me to say they had not received a response. While I understand the fee night not be refundable and the conditions that come with booking at this time, i was however disappointed that the courtesy of an email to confirm that could not be sent. It wasn't a last minute cancellation and I had a valid reason. The property looks great and I was disappointed not to be able to stay due to unforseen reasons.

Stayed 3 nights early January which may explain why it was so cheap at only a total of €142-50. Location very good, room adequate, bathroom excellent, all very clean, heating excellent, staff excellent. Breakfast, one of the best I have ever had, and that would include numerous 5 star hotels. Considering the price I would highly recommend the Old Medical Hall.

If you fancy a stop off in Castletownbere for a coffee you’ll find a great selection of pastries this place. I see it’s a b/breakfast too but I just sampled the pastries and a very pleasant waitress. Well done!

Spent 2 nights at this excellent B&B which is in a beautifully restored building. Comfortable room with all necessary amenities, central location but quiet for a good night's sleep. Delicious breakfast in the tearooms downstairs with lots of delicious options, highly recommended the French toast with crispy bacon. Will definitely stay here again

I've given 5* based on value, but there are a few minor maintenance issues that could be tidied up, but I think they're aware of that (carpets, odd bits of pealing wallpaper etc) but overall, the rooms are spacious for a B&B, and our bathroom especially was the biggest I've seen in a B&B. If I were to make one recommendation, it would be to replace the beds with bigger ones and it would actually feel really luxurious - the rooms seem big enough to accomodate bigger beds. That said, we slept well. The staff were lovely and the breakfast was fantastic. We both had the french toast on both mornings of our stay -firstly because we'd had our fill or "full Irish" breakfasts elsewhere on our trip, but moreover because it was just delicious. We slept well and it was a great place to explore the Beara peninsula. We'll probably be back because himself was eyeing up all the opportunities for cycling!

Stayed here recently. Excellent breakfast. Staff friendly and helpful. There were a few issues with the room which were dealt with swiftly. We were offered a room change and coffee in the cafe downstairs which was courteous of them. We didnt take them up on either offers. Otherwise all was good.

The staff were very friendly and COVID compliant. The room was quant and as expected for this old medical hall adopted into a cafe and bed and breakfast. We were on top floor up a creaky stairs. The staff apologised for the stains on the carpet citing the COVID situation. In general the room was clean and tidy. The staff stated that the bathroom sink was draining slowly but that it would drain. Unfortunately this got so bad the water just stayed in the sink which was a little disappointing. On the up side the location was central and close to bars and restaurants. The breakfast was wonderful and a great choice. The french toast with crispy bacon is highly recommended. In general our stay was good. Fix the sink and the stay would be excellent.
