Dear Thurles11, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with me, I am delighted to see you enjoyed your stay at The West Cork Hotel. I will be sure to pass on your feedback to both the Accommodation Manager and Head Chef who will be delighted to hear such positive feedback. Both teams do work really hard to offer the best service possible to our guests. I also must agree that we are very lucky to have such a hard working team, they really are an asset to the hotel. We look forward to welcoming you back in the near future. All the best. Kind Regards, Aidan Derwin Front Office Manager

We had an excellent stay in the West Cork Hotel. The staff were faultless and made sure our stay was very pleasant.

We booked standard rooms but the rooms we were assigned initially were very dated and had tiny windows. All the pictures of this room type on the hotel website were of much better rooms. We asked to move rooms and were given new rooms immediately. The service here was excellent but I feel the website should show pictures of the old rooms as it is misleading by not showing them. If it were obvious that not all standard rooms had been renovated we would not have complained. The new rooms were far superior. They were very spacious and comfortable; and most importantly very clean.

The breakfast was of a good standard and very well spaced out. There were cooked breakfast options available to order. The French toast wasn't great but everything else was good.

While the restaurant was lacking somewhat in ambiance, the food was exceptional. My meal was probably the nicest I've had in a hotel restaurant. All of us were very pleased with our food. The prices were reasonable.

The only negatives I can think of (apart from the aforementioned issue with the rooms) are minor. During both breakfast and the evening meals, hand sanitiser was placed on the tables in large bottles of the type that are used to clean tables and surfaces. This was very unsightly and unnecessary in my opinion considering sanitiser is available on the way in. I never saw anyone actually use them. The only other restaurant we have visited with sanitiser on the table used small, discreet bottles.
The sound proofing in the rooms wasn't great, particularly from the corridor.

Overall we had a superb stay and would visit again in the future.

Dear EIDW-flyer, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us, I was delighted to read that you had such an enjoyable stay with us & thank you for your valuable feedback. Feedback is very important to us (both good & bad) & enables us to improve on our standards. The hotel as you are most likely aware is originally a railway hotel & dates back to the early 1900s therefore our rooms are not all alike as you may see in newer property & unfortunately it is impossible to showcase all different room types online, however I will personally review the images & see if I can get a more balanced view of each room type. I have highlighted your feedback in regards to our cooked breakfast to our head chef to ensure that we can improve the standard of it. The small touches such as pre-set dinner tables, tea lights & flowers are certainly missed to enhance the ambience of our restaurant in these Covid times, however I do hope that sooner rather than later we will be allowed to return to a more normal experience. In regards to the hand sanitisers you are correct they are not the most attractive however as they are now a government direction to have on every table & the smaller more attractive pump bottle kept disappearing on us! We will look forward to seeing you again soon & hopefully in more normal times. Kind regards, Anne Baker Front Office Manager

The sun was shining, the air was clear and having taken on all the restrictions of Covid-19 for months we headed towards West Cork not knowing what our destination would be. We stopped off in Skibbereen and the West Cork Hotel was one in which we stayed during our honeymoon over 40 years ago; our wedding anniversary just passed, we couldn't not go into the West Cork Hotel for lunch.

We were hungry, somewhat apprehensive on how we'd be received and were impressed with the sanitisers and anti Covid-19 concerns implemented by the hotel. Eimear greeted us with the most welcoming West Cork smile imaginable. She prepared a table for us at the shortest notice and cleaned it thoroughly before we were seated. Eimear is diligent, friendly and was intent making our stay as enjoyable as possible. We had a choice of tables, but chose to sit near the door to a terrace where there was some activity. It was great to hear the sound of children enjoying themselves outdoors again.

Eimear presented us with menus and informed us what was best. All menus were coated clear plastic to reduce the possibility of infection. The main course was excellent and presented beautifully. Dessert was mouthwatering along with the nicest coffee you'll get to taste.

We've visited the West Cork Hotel often during our travels and always found the staff to be of the friendliest and the quality of food excellent. There was a bearded getleman overseeing all that was happening (judging by his accent, not a west Cork local, I think!). But, he knew what he was doing and appeared to have the most loyal of staff. Eimear shone brightest and if I live to be a thousand I think she has one of the most beautiful and friendly smiles known to mankind.

We strolled through the town of Skibbereen immediately after our meal and the beautiful display of flowers just around every corner and the décor in the shops was fantastic.

If the weather holds up . . . . I think we must visit The West Cork Hotel, in Skibbereen again. It's a hotel that has given us magnificent memories for over 40 years.

On a friend’s recommendation we booked into the hotel for two nights intending to stay in another West Cork town for the third night. However as we felt so comfortable and safe in the West Cork Hotel we booked out third night here. Covid precautions are everywhere and strictly adhered to. The hotel was spotless, the Covid precautions can affect the atmosphere with table distancing, lack of table decorations etc but it’s better to be/feel safe than to feel uneasy/unsafe. We had a lovely room overlooking the river- room 215. The staff were all very friendly , helpful and efficient. We ate in the hotel on all three nights- and enjoyed every meal, including fresh lobster one night. Breakfast buffet served by a staff member with meals cooked to order. We couldn’t fault the hotel- and hope to return again.

A first class experience from start to finish, good quality food served by very attentive friendly staff. In fact the staff really add to the experience of staying at The West Cork Hotel, nothing is too much trouble. Plenty of thought put in to try to make the premises COVID safe. Function Room used to serve Breakfast tables with good social distancing, separate entrance and exit to the bar, hand sanitizers place along the corridors. We really enjoyed our 2 night stay and will return for another stay.

For us a visit to the West Cork Hotel is like coming home. It was great to see all the familiar faces and receive such a warm welcome after what must have been a difficult 18 months for all concerned. The staff are real jewels, friendly, efficient with attention to detail. In terms of Covid 19 practices, all staff wore face masks and there was plenty of hand sanitizing stations around the hotel. A one way system of entry for the bar was in operation.
Our room met all our needs; comfortable bed, two sockets at each bedside locker, good reading lighting, plenty of large bath towels with lots of hot water and everything was in working order.
Covid 19 practices don't impact on your enjoyment of your stay, which is what you want from a holiday.
Our room was refreshed by housekeeping on a daily basis. Breakfast has moved to the large ballroom so no having to book slots and times, you can come when it suits between the hours of 8 and 11 which is more than generous and the cooked breakfast will set you up for the day.
Since our last visit the " bridge" has been adapted to provide a sheltered outdoor dining space which gives added comfort and supports those who want to eat outdoors. The food and beverage choices are extensive and offer great value for money. It's refreshing to find a hotel who values repeat business and it not out to fleece it's customers. A very much appreciated 12 O'Clock check out brings our 3 day visit to a conclusion, sad to be leaving, happy with our stay and looking forward to our return visit already. Skibbereen is a lovely town, lots of lovrly shops and eateries by day, an excellent base to explore the surrounding area.

Paid for suite overlooking the river, which was nice with a long bathroom/ wetroom. Had to pay bill in full before arrival. While this was pointed out in an earlier email from hotel its not usually the done thing.
Proximity to main road into town was a bit off-putting due to noise and reduced privacy.
Bar had nice river view and was popular with booking necessary to secure an evening table for dinner. Menu same as in restaurant, again booking necessary (only ate there once). Vibe in restaurant and breakfast room was more" wedding venue" than I would have liked, to be fair not helped by the social spacing of tables. Breakfast was an issue on two out of three days, one morning it took 45 mins before the order arrived. Apart from being different from requested ( I could see others having the same experience) it had obviously been sitting on a hot shelf for too long and everything had overcooked. I dont think they had enough staff on. Additionally you had to queue up to get everything else milk, butter, juice, salt, wheaten (if they had it), fruit, yogurt; felt a bit like Oliver. I don't think any of this is the staffs fault, penny pinching none the less.
Room not serviced on one of the days even though the service sign had been placed on the door from after breakfast. Back in the late afternoon, housekeeping had already left., eventually got fresh towels after a few phone calls. Overall pleasant enough visit, hotel covid aware and geared appropriately. Staff were great.

Dear Marian B, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us. I was disappointed to read that you had some issues during your stay. Our Suites are a wonderful addition to the hotel & with their stunning views & spacious rooms are definitely one to opt for as you have described. However being a town location hotel does mean that the road outside can create traffic noise particularly as certain times of the day. The current Covid-19 restrictions do impede on the atmosphere particularly at meal times in the hotel. Unfortunately under current guidelines we are in the position where we are unable to pre set tables which takes from the experience & unable to add any little extras to enhance the dining experience. The breakfast buffet must be a staffed buffet under current guidelines & we are also unable to have milk & condiments on the table for our guests. I do understand that there can be a certain delay at particular during peak times during our breakfast service which certainly impacted on the service during your visit to us & my sincerest apologies for the delay you experienced on two out of three mornings. If possible I would like the opportunity to discuss all aspects of your review with you directly if you would like to contact me on 028 21277 or by emailing fomanager@westcorkhotel.com Looking forward to hearing from you. Kind regards, Anne Baker Front Office Manager

Had booked this hotel for 2 nites back in February, from the pictures and review I thought we had picked a nice hotel. I did get a phone call 2 days before requesting full payment which I found unusual & unsettling but I didn’t mind if the hotel was ok. On arrival the hotel looked nice lobby was nice & inviting & the girl at reception was pleasant. We had been travelling around west cork all day so all we wanted was a nice shower & comfortable room. We are not people that
complain but our room was dated which I would have got over, but it was filthy the sheets had hairs and dust all over the bed, bathroom also had hairs along with a rim of filth around the outside of the toilet bowel. We complained at reception ask for an alternative room but no luck so the manager on duty came up the inspect the room fair enough she got it half cleaned toilet was still filthy so cleaned it myself. We got a drink on the house while we waited. Went for dinner as it was a package unfortunately my husbands wings were half cold & fish was under cooked we didn’t complain as we were sick of everything at this stage. Unfortunately our night was cut short as my husband was very unwell after the meal. The best part of the hotel was the breakfast! Felt like we had been done really just wanted to leave after the first night but money had taken before we arrived to the hotel. Can’t understand how people gave this hotel such good reviews we obviously got one of the worst room on the first floor. This really put a dampener on
our break away. So disappointing as we had not been away together all year & had worked all through the pandemic. As you
might have guessed we won’t be returning to the west cork hotel.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel for six nights at the beginning of October using it as a base to explore the delights of West Cork and it turned out to be an inspired choice. The location in Skibbereen is perfect as while on the edge of town all local facilities are within a few minutes walk and access to the A71 which is the main route to Clonakilty and Bantry in the opposite direction is moments away.
Many reviews concentrate on the staff and they are well deserved as the entire team were welcoming and friendly and extremely efficient and in our case we could not but mention Sheila who was an excellent hostess at breakfast time and her awareness and years of experience meant we wanted for nothing.
The breakfast was first class as was indeed the evening dinner which we had on two nights of our stay with the Monkfish notable as it was delicious.
Our room was spacious and comfortable with lots of light from the large window which overlooked the riven Ilen and marshes beyond which attracted a range of wild bird species.
Skibbereen is a vibrant town and perfectly placed for visiting all the attractions and scenery of beautiful west cork and from our base we easily visited Mizen Head, Dursey Island via Cable car, Inchydoney Beach, Garinish Island at Glengarriff plus Bantry and even made it to Kenmare one evening.
The West Cork Hotel was perfect for us and am sure we will return in the near future .

We were 2 couples touring around west cork and I have to say we were delighted with our stay in the West Cork Hotel . The rooms were spotless and very spacious with gorgeous views, the front desk staff a special shout out to Anna who looked after us very well and all of the bar staff especially Joan, all of the waiting staff and staff at breakfast were always pleasant and courteous and couldn't do enough for us. I really feel this hotel deserves 4 stars it is absolutely more than a 3 star hotel. We stayed in a 4 star hotel in Bantry i won't mention the name but were disappointed with our stay there not up to 4 star standard.

Keep doing what you are doing West Cork Hotel we will certainly be recommending you and would love to visit again when we're back in Cork.
