Based myself in Skibbereen so that I could enjoy a three day cycling tour of West Cork, and am happy I stayed at Ilenroy House. Both Ronnie and Breda are lovely down to earth people and doing a great job considering that they are having to cope with all the changes to their business that Covid-19 has brought such as breakfast having to be eaten in your room etc. Breakfast was great, the bed really comfortable and the room very clean, Ronnie was happy to provide directional advice on cycling routes, the B+B was quiet and yet just a minute's walk from Skibbereen's main street, and storing my rental bike there wasn't a problem. Much thanks to them for an enjoyable stay, and I'll hopefully see them again in the Spring.
Ronnie very helpful. Very good breakfast. Easy walk to downtown. Room 8 had big windows, awesome shower/towels, nice thin sheet good for hot night, overhead light and lamp; lots of storage space and comfy chairs. You do have to climb stairs. Room very warm. Fan would have helped. Although nearby street parking watch the hours it is free; Host does warn you. Immediate area seemed run-down so if traveling solo, I would not have been comfortable. Street quiets down at night though noisy in the morning if windows open.
After playing the lovely Skibbereen golf course it was great to find Ilenroy House and rest our bones. We were greeted by Ronnie who was friendly and helpful and met Breda next morning after tucking in to a wholesome and tasty breakfast. The room was comfortable and the B& B was positioned centrally so we could walk into town for our dinner in the evening.
Myself and my Fiancee stayed here last weekend for the Rod Stewart concert in Cork City due to the extortionist prices being charged in the city. The B&B is very neat, clean with very hospitable hosts. Bedrooms are very clean however maybe the En-suites are a little small but still very clean and tidy. Breakfast was very nice and enough to keep you going through the day with plenty offers of more if you liked. Very easy excess to the town center and all shops, Bars & eating houses. Would definitely recommend.
My wife and I stayed here with another couple for two nights as we were looking up family roots in the area. The B&B is very near the heart of town - maybe a block away. The building is one that retains the old world look and feel with modern conveniences. Being on the main street with most of the traffic, you would think it would be noisy but it was very quiet and peaceful. The town quiets down at night. The owners are a wealth of information and helped us find a small shop of a relative around the corner. They recommended The Heritage Center and we were not disappointed. Everything is within easy walking distance. A grocer is just around the corner as well as fine pubs. I was able to get an SD card for my camera at a shop near by and continue shooting video unabated. The breakfast is plentiful with an emphasis on being authentic Irish. We are from America and loved the feel of having a real Irish breakfast. We left for our adventures well fed! Be sure to ask the owners about the area and where to go for the best scenery. They have been operating the B&B for some years and can help with anything. There is also good wifi connectivity to get you to the internet. Enjoy your time and make like a local - stay here!…
