Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Based myself in Skibbereen so that I could enjoy a three day cycling tour of West Cork, and am happy I stayed at Ilenroy House. Both Ronnie and Breda are lovely down to earth people and doing a great job considering that they are having to cope with all the changes to their business that Covid-19 has brought such as breakfast having to be eaten in your room etc. Breakfast was great, the bed really comfortable and the room very clean, Ronnie was happy to provide directional advice on cycling routes, the B+B was quiet and yet just a minute's walk from Skibbereen's main street, and storing my rental bike there wasn't a problem. Much thanks to them for an enjoyable stay, and I'll hopefully see them again in the Spring.

We very much enjoyed staying at Ilenroy House for two nights during our stay in West Cork. Although the furnishings are slightly dated, the room was clean, comfortable, and well-appointed, with fast wifi, tv, and a full tea service. In addition, the room was quite spacious for the price! The hosts were very kind and gave us good suggestions for things to do in the area. Breakfast was also terrific: hearty and delicious without being overly greasy. The bed was also very comfortable, which was important after long days of sightseeing.

Our one suggestion would be to provide more information about parking in the booking materials for guests who are just arriving. Street parking nearby is ample but we were a bit confused about where our car should be when we first arrived. The owners explained parking once we checked in and there were also notes about it in the room, but having slightly more info online in an easy-to-find place would make check in even more seamless.

Thanks for a warm and welcoming stay! We look forward to our next visit to Skibbereen. :)

We've been going to Illenroy House for the past number of years and it never disappoints. Comfortable, clean (spotless) accommodation. Breda is the perfect host and couldn't make you feel more welcome! See ya next year :)

A Lovely family run guesthouse within walking distance of everything, room was nice, spotlessly clean and the breakfast was lovely. Very friendly couple running it and we would definitely return. Thank you for looking after us so well.

We stayed 3 nights here and really appreciated it. It's very near the centre of town, and our room, at the back of the house, looked out across the River Ilen. Breda and Ronnie couldn't be nicer or more welcoming. The building is old and interesting, but everything works well. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom was fine - the fittings were looking a bit tired, perhaps, but everything worked perfectly well. The wifi signal was good in our bedroom, less good in the breakfast room - don't forget to ask for the password, because it isn't posted up anywhere. The cooked breakfasts looked delicious, but we never fancy them; the cereal and toast options looked a bit limited at first, but once we asked for variations they were readily offered. Some reviews have commented on parking: there's a 2-hour limit on the parking outside Mondays to Saturdays, but there is a free car park 100 metres up the road. Just don't try to turn round in it when the crowds are coming out after Mass in the cathedral opposite on a Sunday morning, that's all! Overall I can't quite see why this place comes out as relatively low ranked within the town; my best guess is that everyone's so friendly in Skibbereen that visitors always want to give their hosts top marks.

I enjoyed the one night I stayed at Ilenroy house. Breda, the owner, was very nice and made sure I had directions to where I needed to go in Skibbereen the next day. She was very understanding when I had to cancel one person almost last minute, and didn't penalise me for it. She also cooked a delicious full Irish breakfast, yum! The hostel is very easy to find, right on one of the main streets.

Overall, I would recommend this hostel. It's one fall-down point for me was that I have stayed in nicer rooms in B&Bs, but it was clean and spacious.

B&B recommended by another overbooked B&B.

Accommodation was clean but decor was only average. The beds were extremely comfortable. Despite being just off the main street the location was extremely peaceful. The highlights were the friendliness of the landlady and the great Irish breakfast which was one of the best we encountered.

My wife and I stayed here with another couple for two nights as we were looking up family roots in the area. The B&B is very near the heart of town - maybe a block away. The building is one that retains the old world look and feel with modern conveniences. Being on the main street with most of the traffic, you would think it would be noisy but it was very quiet and peaceful. The town quiets down at night.
The owners are a wealth of information and helped us find a small shop of a relative around the corner. They recommended The Heritage Center and we were not disappointed. Everything is within easy walking distance. A grocer is just around the corner as well as fine pubs. I was able to get an SD card for my camera at a shop near by and continue shooting video unabated.
The breakfast is plentiful with an emphasis on being authentic Irish. We are from America and loved the feel of having a real Irish breakfast. We left for our adventures well fed! Be sure to ask the owners about the area and where to go for the best scenery. They have been operating the B&B for some years and can help with anything.
There is also good wifi connectivity to get you to the internet.
Enjoy your time and make like a local - stay here!
