Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was so impressed with this beautiful little house on Valentia Island... located just across the bridge not far from Portmagee. The room was so beautiful, well presented and clean. I was so happy with all the small details which made the room so comfortable and cosy! Stunning views from bedroom and ensuite windows! Mary is very friendly, warm and welcoming. They go out of their way to make you feel at home :) A delicious breakfast in the morning and help with my huge suitcase was much appreciated! I would definitely go back of I had the chance.

Just come back from a short trip to Ireland with my Star Wars mad daughter who wanted to visit Skellig Michael. We stayed with Mary and Jim and it made our stay complete. It's like a home from home. The accommodation is spacious and very clean. Mary and Jim made us feel very welcome, Jim even helped me out with a problem with my hire car. Couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and people to stay with, it's a gem! They even gave my daughter a Star Wars memento as we were leaving, she was thrilled!

Just stayed here for 3 nights and had the most fantastic time. Amazing hospitality, great location, fantastic breakfasts and the accommodation has everything you need. Mary and Jim are perfect hosts, so friendly and welcoming. This was our first trip to Ireland and we absolutely fell in love with it. We had my father-in-law with us and he thoroughly enjoyed himself. Our rooms had everything you needed and were so comfortable. Thank you so much for being so friendly, informative, helpful and making our first experience of Ireland so special!

Mary and Jim run a wonderful B&B, The rooms are spacious and well light. The views from the windows, patio and breakfast room are beautiful. The bathrooms are spacious with place to put your things. Mary and Jim's breakfast are great with fruit, yougurt,, and baked goods available plus of course, the cooked breakfast which is great. Mary and Jim have information on things to see and do in the area. The B&B is close to Portmagee just by crossing the bridge. Always enjoy our visit with Mary and Jim

We've been in Ireland for 4 weeks over the last years and therefor have seen a few B&Bs in this time. We do warmly recommend the Shealane Country House, it's by far the best one we've stayed at. Mary and Jim do their job really well, the rooms are wonderful, the breakfast is good. Mary helps if help is needed and gives good tips. We'll be there the next time too :-)

We stayed 5 nights at this charming bed and breakfast. It is sparkling clean with a wonderful breakfast included. The hosts, Jim and Mary, could not have been more warm and friendly. They were also very knowledgeable about the island and had wonderful suggestions of things to do. We had a great time!

Fantastic 3 night stay at this charming guesthouse. Mary and Jim were very welcoming, friendly hosts. The room was modern, stylish and very comfortable with an enormous bed and spacious bathroom. Delicious 5 star breakfast served daily with a full menu to choose from. The guesthouse is a short walk to Portmagee with stunning views of the island. Hi-vis jackets were even provided in our room for our walk home. Mary and Jim have thought of every detail to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Loved it, highly recommend.

Four of us had the absolute pleasure of staying at Jim and Mary's immaculate house recently. Such wonderful people, whose only wish is to ensure their guests enjoy all they have to offer, Shealane House really has the highest standards of hospitality, cleanliness, comfort and excellent breakfasts imaginable. There is a very comfortable sitting room for guests to enjoy, with a large television, cosy couches, and a fridge on the landing if you want to stay in and enjoy a cold drink. It also provides a lovely outside deck area. Both of our bedrooms had spectacular views, and were beautifully presented with large very comfortable beds, dressed in high quality linen and wonderful pillows. We also had a lovely area to sit, which had tea/coffee making facilities etc. Plenty of

We stayed for two nights and really enjoyed Mary and Jim. Breakfasts were delicious; the bedroom and bath were spacious; lovely views; quiet location. I had booked this B&B nearly 6 months before traveling as I wanted to be sure we were near Portmagee. My objective was to do the Skellig Michael landing tour and Shealane B&B was the perfect location for an early morning departure. We walked to Portmagee from the B&B (about 15 minutes across the bridge. This B&B is a wonderful spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy some peace and quiet for a little while.

This was recommended to us by professional bike tour guides who knew all of the inside info on what to do. And were they ever right! Mary’s great cooking, delightful laugh and Jim’s sense of humor were just like visiting our favorite Irish relatives! The home was so comfortable and had spectacular views of the harbor town of Portmagee across the bridge. They helped us arrange everything from the Skellig Island boat tours to the restaurant recommendations. Could not be happier and the most restful 3 nights of our trip!
